Shorter is better, for the most part. Fewer back problems.
Of course, there are other concerns in addition to health -- namely, that tall men are often found more attractive by women, more intimidating to other men, and more likely to be promoted at jobs.

What if some parent thought that obesity was beautiful and genetically engineered their child to be incredibly fat?

You know who else was into genetic engineering of humans? HITLER.

Genetic engineering must happen.
Humans are not meant to live as long as we do today. People with many illnesses or disorders are now living full lives and breeding. Society has turned "survival of the fittest" on it's head. The result is one big fucked up gene pool. Without genetic engineering, in a few generations we will be a bunch of mutants.

"Meant" by whom?

| People with many illnesses or disorders are now living full lives and breeding. |
And this is bad because...?
What seems to be implicit here is the idea that most illnesses are genetic, and perhaps also the idea that genetic disorders cannot be cured. But both of those ideas are false.

| Society has turned "survival of the fittest" on it's head. |
"Fitness" is a context-sensitive term. It refers to the physical traits that allow an organism to survive under a given set of circumstances. When those circumstances change, as they have in the past ten thousand years of human history, then the traits that constitute "fitness" will change as well. We no longer live as nomads on the savanna, so applying the fitness criteria that worked in that circumstance makes about as much sense as complaining that penguins are "weak" because they can't survive in the Sahara.
