Push

never heard him spin but I never liked pvd's productions and mixes

but actually you can't compare these 2.

Push, mike started producing before he started mixing, pvd started producing when he already was a good dj.

Posted by Plastic Angel on May-03-2002 15:03:

heheh i would go for Plastic Angel ) the most underrated producer
in the last years ))

jokin )

i would go also for mike but paul was very good around 93-95. In that time i liked his tracks.!!!

Shame / Disagreement

OK,I've seen a lot of outrageous statements on this forum, but now I can't control myself any longer:

YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!

M.I.K.E LACKS originality.I'll agree that the tricks M.I.K.E does know are incredible, and he can tear off roofs with tracks like "The Legacy" and "Silverbath",but he is NOT original. He has one formula that he uses over and over again in every track, which is:One huge buildup and then one huge riff to blow everyone away.(Of course, there are exceptions, like "Elements Of Life".)The thing is,M.I.K.E really knows how to make these two elements so fuckin' mental and off tha hook that when his tracks are played on big systems, they blow the roof off every fuckin' time. Also,he's good at varying the sounds he uses,so that it masks the simplicity of his music. And I'll hand it to him,it's difficult to pull those tricks off on almost every goddamn track that he produces. Not many can do that as effectively as M.I.K.E does, and certainly not so many times after another, without getting tedious and/or boring. That's why I think his productions rock. But his tracks are NOT original. That is complete BS.When you go down to the essences of his productions, they are almost ALWAYS the same.

PvD is WAYYY more original than M.I.K.E productionwise, although as mentioned,he has some problems too.But take the "Out There And Back"-album for instance. Here,he spends so much time setting the mood with all kinds of elements, even going to the means of using breakbeats once in a while to break up the (after a while,at home) monotonous 4/4 drive. And the whole structure of the album is so carefully planned in coordinaiton with his dj-experience,so that it feels like a whole piece of musical work instead of just seperate tracks. But when you think of it,comparing M.I.K.E with PvD is quite unfair,as they have TOTALLY different trance-styles production wise.PvD is definately a producer for the home listener, while M.I.K.E produces for the dancing masses.(which by no means is negative)PvD doesn't make those "blow tha fucking roof off"-tracks that M.I.K.E does,PvD is more subtle and mellow on his productions, even when he opens the flood gates completely like "Avenue" or "Columbia" on "Out There And Back".I think that he thinks that all that "blow tha roof off" stuff fits better in his djsets, and I think we've all noticed that by now.
(Rosenmontag = F**CKING OFF THA HOOK!!!!!!)

Therefore,I think it's quite unfair to compare these two,as they are two quite different musicians.I love them both, but M.I.K.E has yet to prove himself for me by making something COMPLETELY different. And does M.I.K.E even dj at all?

Oh and btw,I never understood what all the fuss was about with that Space Brothers-rework anyway. Both the rework and the Push remix are two totally ordinary trance tracks. What's so AMAZING about these?

thank you.. that was one of the smartest comments i have seen thus far on these boards..

i really don't get this whole 'competitive attitude' form all the people on here...

why can't it be BOTH? I mean, must there be a best DJ/ best Producer etc.. it really all varies over time, there will be days in the future, when you might think : How could i ever listen to Push/ Pvd?!

Think of what you listened to when you were a little kid, problably different stuff from what you are listening too now.

Shame / Disagreement Re: Paul Van Dyk or Push?

quote:

With songs such as autumn..and Suzann, one has to wonder why do some people hate him.

Give me a break. 'Autumn' and 'Columbia' are pure crap. They put me to sleep, there is absolutely nothing that stands out in these boring tracks. I could listen to them a few times in a row and I wouldn't even remember how they go. And for example 'Columbia' isn't Trance, it's more like House. In short, I can't stand these tracks.

quote:

M.I.K.E. has NEVER disappointed me

He HAS disappointed me. 'Tranzy State of Mind' is a pretty bland production in my opinion. Pretty mediocre quality, compared to "Strange World" and "Music Non-Stop," which were true masterpieces.

LOL
seems to me that you don't know half of his tracks

pe liquid overdose - contact
dark city - new age booster
complex climate - genetic stress
progrez - beam me up
perfect state - into a different

these all sound different, and have an other build-up
don't give comment if you only know his aliases push, plastic boy and mike

PvD is an amazing DJ. Push is an amazing producer. Nuff said.

Paul van Dyk can't even play keyboards. (He admitted that in one of his interviews.) All the chords/sequences in his songs were created with some tools and programs...

For An Angel isnt a bad tune, but then it isnt anything special.

Hello! wtf

ok people lets not bash pvd if u have a mean opinion keep it to yourself dont just say he is the suckiest producer
just tell us u like push better because it sure is funny how in the years past pvd has been voted the best producer and everone knows his name wherever u go but ask about push and not to many people will know who the hell u are talking about
i like them both but im back from the old days pvd is the one who got me into along with tiesto and a few others
so please keep your rude ass opinion to yourself and just say which u like better insted of trying to bash somone here

Paul also said that he had learned to play the piano in one of his interviews..He said that although he knows how to play, almost all of the times it doesnt help him.. Just because he uses equipment to sequence a song doesnt mean he cant play the piano :\

Posted by drinkyourmilk on May-04-2002 00:14:

From an interview on PCMusic
Do you use two fingers to play keyboards like the rest of us or can you actually play?

I can actually play, but very often there is no need to use more than two fingers. You need more when you're not recording and just in the studio playing around

Posted by Mekroon on May-04-2002 00:34:

I prefer push' style.
i don't like pvd's stuff but i can admit that some of is sets are really nice like the one he did at mayday 2002

Posted by Mekroon on May-04-2002 00:35:

the image says it all....
Vandit haters

Posted by Mekroon on May-04-2002 00:36:

i just dont know why people are so amazed by him.
Tisto rules

Posted by BTG on May-04-2002 00:39:

I personally dont like push at all. I know that he's very tallented..but i find his music is very dark, and i'm more into happy music. :/ *shrugs* i dunno. PVD isn't all that great either..but with songs like Suzann, i'll have to say PVD. ;D

You find Push dark??? I dont know about other alliases (only heard stuff by push/m.i.k.e) but I dont see how push is dark....
But hey that's me.

And as for my opinion:
I love push/m.i.k.e as a producer but I've never heard him dj.
I dont like pvd much as a producer, thought I wouldnt go as far as to say that he sucks, he definetely doesnt, but as a DJ, PVD definitely RULES.

Posted by Martin McG on May-04-2002 01:47:

well yeah i can testify ive saw M.I.K.E DJ and he F****N ROCKED!

M.I.K.E i think makes really atmospheric but thumping tracks!
PVD never saw him DJ live but heard most of his productions which got to admit i liked the majority!

i dont know who i like best cos i like both and think they are great!why decide when weve got them both?!

Posted by extulas on May-04-2002 03:07:

Well, Now that I know I wont get nailed for saying Paul Van Dyk sucks, I will now say that PVD is way over rated. Everyone thinks hes a god or some sort,. I dont like him cause he told me to shove it one day in Boston. But thats not my only reason. I think that ever since he started vandit or whatever, He thinks he is better theneveryone, Their are a few songs I like, But I think that Push is alot better in producing then PVD

Posted by neo geo on May-04-2002 03:30:

i tried to be nice

ok hold the fuck up
lets see who sells out a show first push or paul
ummmmm pvd
lets see who is know world wide paul
lets see who has sold millions of albums paul
hummmmmmmmm
facts dont lie
i like push dont get me wrong but some of you are trying to make it sound like no one should even listen to him and that he is worthless
lets see u do a better job
