They atarted using them last year. I think they look incredibly stupid done up to look like the wheel. |
Ferrari topped testing today, Massa doing qualy-sims and putting a much quicker time than everyone else, and Raikkonen doing long runs and still being slightly quicker than everyone else.
The surprise was the brand new Williams with Rosberg, 3rd quickest overall behind the Ferraris, matching the McLarens on the long runs.
Also surprisingly BMW sucked today, with Heidfeld complaining about balance problems in the car, while Toyota seem to be fucked as well. Red Bull didn't impress neither.

Comments:
I believe Kova's superlap was on lower fuel and Mac-Ferrari are both about matched, or even with Ferrari quicker. There's some info around that Massa's best lap was at the end of a 9 laps stint, for example. And Ferrari haven't tested their full new aero package yet (altho it's likely many teams will introduce new elements to their cars as well).
Williams confirms they are here for real, close to Mac and Ferrari.
Renault aren't bad and close to the top teams as well.
BMW are fucked. There seems to be some confusion on who drove the 2008 car today, Heidfeld or Kubica, either way the car is a big disappointment.
Red Bull seems coming better a bit now but they haven't really impressed yet.
Honda had an absolute disaster of a first day, the car having lots of problems and being massively slow.
Toyota:
Good time for Sutil in the Force India IMO.
Toro Rosso are doing fine with an updated 2007 car.
Super Aguri aren't testing again and the rumour is they are in serious money trouble. I hope they'll still make it to the grid.

| MADRID, Spain -- British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton suffered racist abuse from Spanish fans during testing at the Montmelo circuit in Barcelona, Spanish media reported on Sunday. Reports in a number of papers said the McLaren driver was booed and insulted whenever he made his way from the team motorhome and into the pits on Saturday. The correspondent from sports daily Marca said that racially charged comments aimed at the black driver were clearly heard and he said that large sections of the crowd was involved. "It is not right the way he is being treated," McLaren test team manager Indy Lall was quoted as saying. Marca said that the circuit director asked for fences to be put up around the McLaren paddock and ordered the removal of banners that had been put up opposite the team's base. Daily La Vanguardia also said the circuit director had reminded fans of their obligations at the venue. "We would like to make a plea to the fans to behave correctly, no type of offensive behavior can be tolerated," circuit director Ramon Pradera was quoted as saying in the newspaper. Hamilton, who finished runner-up in last year's championship, has become a hated figure in Spain because of his rivalry with former McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso, who now drives for Renault. Incidents of racism have plagued Spanish sport, in particular soccer, in recent years. |
that is a fucking shame. Alonso needs to make some sort of appeal to his fans

Ferrari is going to ruin the field this year.

apparently Massa last year during testing in Bahrain had 1.29.XXX
Bahrain times vary too much depending on the weather conditions (like stren said, Massa did a 1:29 in testing, then in the GP the best times were 2 seconds slower). I don't think those are any good for judging whether the new Ferrari is quick or not.
Couple of new cars have been presented, latest the Force India, looks like a bad attempt at putting "bling" into a F1 car. I like the Honda's new look, although testing has proved that car is seriously slow.

I'd be with you if there'd be new independent teams queuing up to take their place. Since the idea of customer cars died, nobody's willing to spend the massive budget needed to start an F1 team from scratch, to almost certainly spend years as a backmarker. And I'd rather have soulless manufacturers like Honda and Toyota with different cars, than independent teams running more McLarens and Ferraris.
Guys, i'm looking for some advice...
I've been watching F1 on tv since 2003 so a friend and i have decided to attend a GP this year (our first) but don't know which one would be best. I'm in the UK and were looking to stay inside Europe but we don't want to go to the British one.
Im currently in my last year of university, so can only go after i finish. i.e. after June 1st to the following circuits (non-european excluded):
Round 8 - 22nd June - France, Magny-Cours
Round 9 - 6th July - Great Britain, Silverstone
Round 10 - 20th July - Germany, Hockenheim
Round 11 - 3rd August - Hungary, Hungaroring
Round 12 - 24th August - Europe, Valencia
Round 13 - 7th September - Belgium, Spa Francorchamps
Round 14 - 14th September - Italy, Monza
So basically were trying to decide which of the above to go to, but have no idea
as watching on tv is probably completely different from actually being there.
Has anyone been to any of the the above? Can you recommend any (and for what reasons)? what factors should we base our decision on?
Thanks for any help.
I'd choose whatever is still available
Spa is pretty economical in terms of price, Monaco and Monza, most expensive
/ so I've heard, never been to a GP though
I've heard the Hungaroring has a cool atmosphere since folks from all the countries around Hungary invade the place, and there's supposedly places from where you can see almost the entire track. Not that it's that much of a big advantage since nothing ever happens at the Hungaboring.
But that's just what I've heard, I have no idea really.
I feel bad for Honda car and team.
Anyways, i never thought Rubinho a great driver.
I'd suggest these three:
Round 10 - 20th July - Germany, Hockenheim
- Awesome track, good racing, high speeds.
- Huge fan turn out, crazy atmosphere.
Round 13 - 7th September - Belgium, Spa Francorchamps
- Amazing track.
- Cool elevation changes.
- Great racing.
Round 14 - 14th September - Italy, Monza
- Tefosi.
- Super high speeds.
- Tefosi.
- Good racing.
belgium because the track is cool and the city itself is bombs.
