I moved out 2 weeks after my 17th birthday. For me, it was the greatest decision I could ever make...

However, if things were different, and I could have stayed at home, I would have.

It has been incredibly hard to get a jump start on anything. I never had the chance to save any money, and it's been only recent that I have experienced any real stability.

If you are serious about going to school - stay home. Start saving every penny you have.

i'm 23 (almost 24) and i'm still at home.

i make ~$1800 a month.

$1100 goes to college loans (i'm an immigrant so i couldn't consolidate)

$210 for car loan
$160 insurance on car
$70 cell-phone bill

the $300 or so left over every month i use up on gas/random lunches. and whatever money i make on DJing pays for dates/clothes/partying.

so i don't think you're in that bad of a situation bro.

Thing to remember is dont move out just because your friends are telling you to. Move out when you want to.

Because of college etc, the people doing my degree had mostly moved out of their parents house when they were 16, 17, 18. I think there were only 3 or 4 of us out of a class of 16 who hadnt moved out.

Then I was another year at home after my degree and moved out when I was 23 to do my masters in another college. Was grand, you get used to it within a week and it kinda hits you when you first call the new place 'home'. However, if you get on well with your folks like I do, its the 2nd of 3rd time that you visit them that it gets a bit harder to leave.

I'm back at home with them now that I've done the masters, and I'm now looking for a job to do with it. If I can get a job in a hospital fairly nearby, then I'll stay at home, if I cant, then I'll get a place on my own. Maybe start renting and depending on the costs (houses in Ireland are even more expensive than in England Ian ) then I might try and get a mortgage on it.

We'll see. All to be decided.

But yeah, dont worry if you're still living at home when everyone else you know has moved out, its when you want to do it that it matters. Its hard for the first week, but you get used to it far more quickly than you'd think, and then you look back on it and realise what all the fuss you made was for

Long story short - I moved out for my college masters at 23, then at 24 I'm back at home again having finished.

I moved out and moved back in once school was finished. That was a year ago and I'm still home and love it. It's not like I don't do anything or pay anything, I'm a maid basically lol. I pay 750$ one month , which is half the rent, and I pay 1500$ the next. My 'rents don't ask me for a dime but I contribute anyway. They want to eventually buy their dream house so I want to help in every way I can. If you're going to go to school, I say stay and save what you can. No shame in staying home. I make a little over 4000$ a month (after the govt takes their nasty cut), so I COULD move out I'm just one lazy mother fucker + my moms cooking is not to be missed.

and that's just interest...

lesson learned. don't go to a private school. it just sucks i couldn't consolidate after college, it'd be alot easier. but i'm applying for citizenship right now, hopefully get it in 3-5 months (probably longer) and that'll free up a lot of my $$ to move out on.
