This already exists, kind of. It's called Breakstep.

yeh i was first misled too - maybe call it J-Tek UK? but then again, I'm only recently familiar with japanese techno ... is it that big? I never see it mentioned in the dj mags.

Yes, it is. It was very popular in the 90's, and MTV would even play their videos once in a while. Check these guys out:

The J-tek name is an abbreviation of Jungle Techno as Is Jap Techno.... They stand for two different things, the thing is Jungle techno was here first and inspired both speed garage and jap techno....Why you would waste your time trying to slag this off when these guys are just trying to back this sound with modern production skills is beyond me....This is a good thing for underground music as a whole and it's aim is to unite people, Lira has to much time on his hands, get a hobbie mate and stop being a hater.....

Now that I've listened to those track, I can say that I really like Falling Bombs.
But it doesn't sound like a new genre...

It's no coincidence that approx. half of dubstep's fanbase consists of people who got tired of drum n bass, that Shy FX's latest signings to Digital Soundboy has been spacey things from Breakage or that people like Ed Solo suddenly start to make stuff like Raspberry Dub.

Oh well... People who get bored of it will go, new people will come.
Doesn't mean the genre itself will slow down, there are plenty of other slower genres to listen to.

First of all, jtek has been used to refer to Japanese techno for quite a few years now. Also, techstep would be a better candidate for this "jungle tekno" monicker than this music you guys are posting. I'd say "Garage breaks" would be a more suitable name, for that matter, but most people would think it was some new kind of uk garage. Well, it is, kinda.

I agree with everything said. Oh, and not to forget... Techstep FTW.

Posted by dto4music on Jan-13-2008 18:11:

Tech step refers to things like C4C and Optiv......This is Jungle Techno....J-tek for short....Why reinvent the wheel..... This is not a new thing, just an old thing polished to go forward..There is nothing wrong with that... Why did the japs not just call there thing techno as they got it from europe anyway.History Lesson= Jungle techno came from the need for breaks in in techno.. The hip hop crews of the 80's needed it as it was what they were used to... Shut up and dance, lennie dee ice and many others paved the way for this and jungle techno was born in 92, it faded to quick btu not because the masses wanted it to fade. It just happened as things sometimes get split and tagged by the media. Also garage unthought of until many years later and took all the elements from Jungle Techno... Call it Jungle techno if ya not into J-Tek strange argument as it's only an abbreviation of Jungle Techno lol.....

In 91-92 I was into Joey beltram and Lennie dee ice, prodigy and mickey finn all being played under one roof.... at least you got to learn new music and people did not moan so much then.

Enjoy underground music as a whole

Cause 4 Concern and Optiv are awesome, but the best example would be Ed Rush & Optical's album Wormhole.

Jtek = Japanese techno, click here.

(And to everyone else, spare me the "Wikipedia is not always right" talk. )

I think what dto is trying to say is the fact that J-Tek for this specific "scene" / "genre" stands for Jungle Techno, plain and simple. And referencing something stated earlier by Lira - no fuss over trying to claim a new genre - the music is good - lets keep the focus on that.

Posted by sljiva on Jan-13-2008 19:14:

Maybe the difference is in -
So: JTek - Japanese techno; J-Tek - Jungle techno

And that's not the only confusing name in EDM, for example:
Euro trance - name for every style of trance except psy trance
and
Euro trance - cheesy trance that appeared in new millenium aka dance aka hands up trance...

So, just because I disagree with you, I'm a hater? Did I say the music sucked or something? No, I just answered the two questions posed in this thread:

It doesn't sound like a new genre to me, and I just presented my arguments. If, however, you find it hard to deal with different opinions, I wish you good luck in real life.

Oh, and I know what techstep is - I <3 Dom & Roland.

Posted by dto4music on Jan-13-2008 19:56:

I'm not going to get into this for to long as I have music to make.... JTEK is a registered trade mark to a company in Texas....Who cares J-tech, JTek, New Jungle... It's just a up to date version of Jungle Techno.. names will always get crossed I don't think whats happening in Japan is really going to effect what happens here.....The fact is this sound is gonna be back in 2008 in the UK first and I think it's going to be great. Plus i think we might see techno heads dancing along side the D&B heads again...... Now thats not a bad thing.....

Oh yeah, much <3 for Dom & Roland, especially Can't Punish Me.
He does a fair ammount of darkstep as well, I think.

What a mess of naming conventionalities. Gee, if only there were someone who could, oh I don't know.....put it all together in an audio primer or.....you might say a guide, of sorts...
