They did a lot for trance back in the day. I actually like a lot of the stuff coming out on AnjunaDeep lately.

Used to love A&B but recently getting more and more bored with the amount of thier own label they play on TATW coupled with the insane amounts of vocal garbage they have started playing. They always played a lot of vocal stuff but recently its been even more cheesy than it used to be. maybe its just theres too much crap vocal trance and not enough good ones

Yeah I do too. And they did do a lot for trance, both the commercial side and the slightly less commercial side. "Razorfish" was one of the best tracks of the early 00s and their remixes were among the most memorable and well done. A really under-rated remix of theirs is the remix for Tomcraft's "Loneliness". I really like the tracks by Michael Casette and Joonas Hahmo on that label.

Ive seen them play sets like that. But if they get to start from more anjunadeep stuf up to their typical uplfiting style they can play amazing sets. See their Essential Mix from the Summer to show you that.

Its all about if you actually like Anjunabeats style trance though and Above & Beyond themselves as their sets are invariably saturated with those tracks.

I think it also helps if Paavo is one of the two that plays at any given time as he is the quality DJ of the 3.

Yeah, I've been meaning to pick up "Zeppelin" by Cassette. Something totally addicting about that track.

+2

Maor Levi is one of new favorite DJs and I also like Joonas Hahmo a lot.

The only complaint about Above & Beyond I have (and this is coming from a person who has NOT seen the live) is that they play songs that are similar to the style of their own and never play any dark progressive tracks that you might hear from other DJs such as Markus Schulz.

Why would they play dark progressive tracks? They're playing what's expected of them.

Yay, then they can also put the rest of us to sleep like the modern Schulzie does.

this, back around 2004 before they started headlining at major events they used to play really good music that you wouldn't necessarily expect from them. now they just play what the people want to hear, shame.

Posted by BeatsAndBeyond on Jan-20-2008 14:45:

I find it amusing how everyone is praising the 2000 Chicane set as one of the best ever...

And then in the same forum moaning at how A&B mostly play tracks from their own label.

None of them are 'quality' DJs - They are all incredibly piss poor at mixing. As is the case when you book producers as DJs.

All in your opinion of course. Ill again point you to the Essential Mix in the Summer. Cant say there was any bad mixing there so where is your point?

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Jan-20-2008 15:26:

It's not my opinion, it's a fact. If you know what makes a good transition you'd know they are shit.

Was the Essential Mix live from somewhere or was it pre-recorded studio set?

Really? I saw them a couple of times during 02-03 and I pretty much got exactly what I expected...

Give it up man, they're not "shit" mixers. If you're gonna bitch about them, track selection is probably where it's at.

Sorry, but they are. And if you think otherwise it only goes to prove you don't know what you're talking about. Which in your case, we already knew anyway.

Posted by Clovis on Jan-20-2008 17:51:

At least they're not as bad as Blank & Jones

You're a parody of yourself sometimes.

wasn't the chicane one a concert, and not a dj gig?
