We lived the Uplifting Peak, then moved to the Progressive Trance peak, then 2 yrs ago, the Tech-Trance revolution started (SvD, Cor Fijneman, Richard Durand), and today, Electro infleunced Trance is also starting to cover the scene (eg. Marcus Schossow). In my opinion, Trance's trend changed, but the quality stays there! Yes, many CRAP releases exist, but if you really search, you'll still find some quality stuff! The difference also exists in the number of producers producing Trance. Back in 2000, they could be counted easily. Nowadays, a huge number of labels and producers entered the industry! We have crappy release released more than quality ones, so Percentage of Quality Trance release is going down, but the Quantity of the Quality is going up! |
but after minimal-trance? lol and gabber-trance?

It still puzzles me how ppl have this perception that you can't love Trance and other genres of EDM as well.
Yea, I understand the whole Trance->House/Techno/Breaks/Jungle/etc. transition that many ppl go through but I can't stand the genre elitists (and that also includes ppl that think Trance is the only worthwhile EDM to listen to).
There is plenty of cookie-cutter trance, just like there is plenty of cookie-cutter house, techno, etc. but a lot more tolerance is had in those genres since they're generally comprised of more mature EDM fans who have no other genre to turn to -- all the hate is reserved for the Trance 'newbies'. Although, admittedly, Trance does suffer from the image of ONLY consisting of tracks with huge build-ups -- yes, a fair chunk of tracks are like that but of those that have both trance/house/tech elements it is very RARE that the trance elements are ever mentioned/brought up -- I especially laugh when I'm at a club and see Trance haters go off to 'House' tracks that sound more like Trance than House, lol.
I won't mention names but there are trance DJs out there that bring the party practically EVERY time they're on and you can be sure to have a good time if you're in attendance -- then, there are the others, that play the same stuff ALL THE TIME and it is a snoozefest! Very few 'Trance' DJs out there now can break across that genre and incorporate the varied sounds of EDM into their sets. I appreciate a well programmed/thought out set that is bangin/has flow as opposed to the dropping of all the regular 'hits' in random order! Sadly, the big Trance DJs tend to hoard all the attention for themselves due to their popularity and it is downright impossible for any up-n-comer to make a dent unless they have some amazing productions under their belt. They won't get bookings because their name isn't big enough to bring the numbers necessary to make it profitable - and the cycle continues.
goodgreef - Trance does not work in all club settings -- some clubs are better catered for house -- same idea with tracks that go off well at massives but end up sounding out of place at smaller venues.

I have had fun at Trance events at clubs, but it is really subjective to the mood and atmosphere of the venue. I have also had tons of fun at House music events, and even Jungle. Re: Trance Scene in Montreal

| Originally posted by Ranim Hello, I came to Montreal 5 weeks ago, and went to some night clubs with some friends. I Realized that Trance music is mostly inexistent here (i only know that Stereo organizes a Trance event once a month: Trancemission..but nothing else). The dominant music is the Electro, Prog House, and Commercial Music. Am I right, or am I generalizing? |

| Originally posted by 84th Ave. I'm probably in the same boat as you, i use to live trance, but really got away from it because it just got to repetitive, every song sounds exactly the same, i ventured off to more of a creative sound, into tech /prog house, where you can tell the difference between quality vs. quantity, more innovative sound. Also, i'm a person who likes to dance, and found it really annoying and personally broke the atmosphere with all the big build ups, literally everyone is just standing around....also everyone at trance events seems to be secluded, it's not the same vibe.....this is all from my personal experience |
