Trading Sundin is the best thing the leafs could do right now....if he really wants to be a leaf he can resign with them in the off season.

I have a feeling Antropov will finally be traded....with the way he is playing this season he might actually be worth something.

Leafs fans, get it through your heads, THEY ARE LAUGHING AT YOU. You pay for the ridiculously prices seats, you watch every game and commercials (super ad revenue), you walk around in the jerseys and coats and they don't even have to win! HA HA. I would be laughing too. Leafs Nation is a sad bunch. There would be nothing to talk about if they were actually winning.

It's like if they are run by Scientologists.

For starters, he has a no-trade clause, which he will not waive (thankfully). Why would you trade your top scorer and one of the best players in the league?

What the leafs need to do is work on next year. Forget trying to make the playoffs every year, make some smart trades that balance experience and youth, then work for a year or two developing your younger players under the leadership of Mats Sundin before making a serious run for the cup in '09/10

Posted by illestofdananas on Jan-21-2008 17:14:

ya i heard that rumour
i would trade sundin for carter and a first rounder in a second

smartest move out there

the guy could get moved to a cup contending team, actually have a chance at wimming it....unlike his current situation, leafs will acquire needed youth and if he really wants to retire a leaf (as he says) he can resign with a stronger leaf team next year and who knows...maybe the experience of winning the cup or deep playoff experience under his belt

basically philly did a few moves last year that took them directly out of last in a matter of months

personally i would trade any leaf over 25

and ya those football games had interest last night but i think mostly because they were final four games...

hockey or basketball final four games or playoff games of that magnitude are WAY more excited imo.

but then again i find hockey and basketball way more excited to watch generally anyway. too many stoppages in football for me

and the amount of commercials....holy fuck

You would trade him because you have no chance of winning the cup this year.....the no-trade clause is really a non-issue if Sundin is willing to waive it. At this point Sundin is saying the right things by saying he doesn't want to be traded....and IMO that is a selfish attitude on his part. If he really cares about the leafs then he would agree that getting a couple draft picks for him and then him resigning in Toronto in the off season would be best for the leafs.

The leafs don't have a single player who can honestly take over for Sundin when he retires...which could be at the end of the year.....Toronto is at least 5-7 years away from truly being a contender in the NHL....assuming the start now by dumping players like Antropov, Tucker, Sundin, Raycroft, McCabe, Gill, Kubina, Bell, and so on.

Why wouldnt Sundin waive his no-trade clause? Just because he says he wants to stay in Toronto. dont you think after being in this city for 10+ seasons he knows how to talk to the Toronto media? Who can you possibly trade on the Leafs other than Sundin??? The team is full of over priced players (kubina), players with no-trades (mccabe, blake) and a shit load of 3rd line players (steen, stajan, wellwood, etc.) Sundin is too old to build a team around. Toronto needs to find that next player to build the team around and they got nobody and thats including the Marlies.

p.p.s. - The Leafs suck balls. Until they decide to.....

1.) Fire Ferguson.
2.) Blow up the entire squad, trading for future draft picks.
3.) Put people with good hockey minds in charge of drafting/scouting.

.... I will continue my anti-support for this lack luster franchise.

This organization doesn't give a fuck about winning the cup. All they care about is putting a half decent squad together each and every year, that is good enough to maybe squeak into the playoffs, so all the die-hard fans can say 'ohhhh, we almost made it.... next year.'. Retarded.

Toronto has a team that has done all the right things to put them in a position to win.... They're called the Raptors.

Word for word, what he said.

I realized this after being burned by this stupid franchise time and time again that they'll never actually put together a good enough team to win the cup. They just need to be good enough to make people THINK they have a chance. To be honest, Leafs fans have nobody to blame but themselves.

Ps. As for football, I love how the universe managed to balance itself out and we'll still see a Manning vs. Brady showdown.

The Leafs wont win the cup, because they don't need to win the cup.

Imagine how much hustle MLSE would put on the ice if they had the turnout of Jays games.
