listen to the way the kick sounds at the end of example 2.

there is not much musically going on there and the kick has "suck"

compression really is essential to make the kick pound right.
also sidechaining is important, to make the kick stand out and make the mix pump. if you don�t sidechain your kick into (at least) the bass track, your mix will definitely sound muddy on larger speakers.

I personally love the TC Works Native Compressor f�r compressing kicks, just set Attack to max (50ms), release between 50 and 100 ms, and try to find a ratio and threshold that makes the compressor pump. usually, a lower threshold and a higher ratio.

but first...SIDECHAIN ! kick drum into the bass track, set attack, release and threshold...use speakers, not phones !

i like it...think the saw-synth is a little bit too loud but thats a matter of taste

I would have to say I think I agree with that.

I also think the timing is off just a tad on the lead melody.

How does the balance, and the bass sound?

yeah, the timing seems wierd when the synth starts coming in. but i think thats a delay that does something strange because later the timing looks good. maybe try and requantize the part.

i think the balance is good, I like the bass sound very much. I personally would use a different approach to get this kind of groove but its made well and sound really pounding, well done.
I personally like the Hihats a bit wider than you mixed them (not the fx they are perfectly wide, just the hats)...and maybe a bit louder...
and I would make the transition to the break a bit smouther, maybe put a low cut on the kick and automate it (e.q. fade the kick out using a filter...)

I will try those things later on today or tonite, I gotta go get a b-day present for my dad now....

I will still put some white noise fx too. And with the hat panning, I thought that too, but I didn't wanna go overboard. I will adjust it later and we will see

i actually like your tune. once its cleaned up a bit it could be sweet....im not sure if Im fond of the super saw......but i like the beginning of it...finish it

I have been analyzing this track on other stereo's and I still think my kick and bass sounds wierd. I think maybe its my monitoring or something, either that or its the other speakers I am analyzing on

well, that is another thing to keep in mind.

I think it doesn�t matter how good the quality of your monitors is. What matters more is that you know how they sound and how other productions sound on YOUR monitors. If you can make your tracks sound like the others on your system, they will sound good anywhere

I guess that is true, but, then I have a problem, because I can never make my productions sound like the ones I love to listen to

I am listening to Sander Van Doorn and it sounds awesome, wish I could make mine sound like that!!!

Most important thing to start is samples. Good samples are most important. Nothing works without them....everything else is quite easy from there...
my favorites: vengeance club sounds, ni synthetic drums..the later has a great trance preset and some quite mad techy sounds...i love it

this is really a key factor. you can�t make a sample work just by applying eq, compression etc. they most be right from the start.

all the synth sounds are far less hard to produce...for the start, just step through presets and make them work for you i produced like that for years and it helped me a lot

I don't use presets too much, I love to create my own patches too. I use presets sometimes but, since I got my Krishna synth I have focused more on creating my own patches and sound fx. The only thing I really use samples for is drums and for that I also use Vengeance clubsounds vol.2

I have no problem making lead sounds and pads, or really anything musical. My biggest problem is always bass. Meaning the Kick and Bass, anything that produces bass, I just have a hard time getting it right. Usually when I am working on a track, It will sound perfect to me when I listen and create. Then I go to work in my car and listen to some other trance music, then listen to mine and the bass on my tracks is always too much, or not tight like I want it

I feel that I have decent mixing skillz and skillz at creating patches, its just that damn bass

Here is the track that I have been working on since I started this thread, if anybody is interested in listening. All Opinions welcome

Alot of it just plays out, it needs more melody and hats, and pads.
