Why?
Half the time when speaking badly about people from the US, they say Americanos so they need to get their shit straightened out.

Oh trust me... I put in my several years of service to retail. You also have to consider that for a lot of outlets (specifically smaller stores) those trucks hit multiple stops... so there is NEVER any empty space in a truck. |
Much smaller stores, yes. All of our companies stores gets their own freight truck with two trailers just for one store (we're also Kroger-owned, so I assume that it's incredibly similar at other Kroger-owned stores).
But now I'm just getting nit-picky and I actually need to go to work, so I'll just back out of this thread now.

Um everyone I know does, so I guess we don't know the same people!

You are absolutely correct. However, it comes in on the same trailer as the rest of the dry grocery freight. That big rig would still be driving with or without the pallet of water on it. Your argument there is invalid. |
A lot of places have the water delivered by the water company itself. Hence Sparkles trucks, Arrowhead trucks etc, I think he's talking about those. Retailers like Target don't get perishables on the same freight as everything else. Food and drink isn't even stocked by the employees, it's done by the company (Coke, Pepsi, whatever).

Oh and I really wanted to use this...

Both. It's silly to waste plastic, gas, and your hard earned dollars on something for which there already exists an elaborate infrastructure to bring it directly to your home.

You have a nice outlook on life, you really do. And I agree with everything you are saying. But...
Do you really need that computer you are using to type all of this on? Do you have a cell phone? If so, why? You don't need it. What about a car? Do you make your own orange/apple juice or do buy them from a carton?
Not trying to burst your bubble but there are millions of different things that we do on a daily basis that are a complete waist of our resources. They are here for us to use, but we are definitely using them all in a VERY waistful manor. I'd imagine we could have done things differently but unfortunately the only way I see anything changing is by everyone coming to an agreement (which won't happen) or the slate gets wiped clean (which definitely has a better chance then the other option.)

I see your point, but you're speaking in absolutes. Do I NEED this computer... well yes.. its required for my job. Do I NEED a cellphone? Once again, required by my job. Do I NEED a job? Well... I guess not... I guess I could just live out on the street. The thing isn't to cut EVERY modern convenience, but to do the best with what you got and moderate the use of luxeries.
I'm not talking a total rehaul of our society... but simple things like recycling, keeping the thermostat at 72, not taking 30 minute showers, turning off lights when you're out of the room, walking to the store rather than driving, taking the occasional public transportation, not buying a car that gets less than 20 mpg, and yes... even filling your own water bottle. I don't see why some folks see these things as such a sacrifice.
I can see the convenience of bottled water at a concert, or venue... but why do you need to buy 2 cases a week so you can take 1 to the gym, 2 to work, 1 for the car... and so on. Some people even buy bottled water to drink at home!!! THAT is what makes no sense at all to me!
(all this being aside from the fact that all this spring water has to come from.. you guessed it... springs. So we have these beautiful aquifers being cluttered with machinery to suck all the water out, and ship it thousands of miles just so you can say that your water came from 1000s of miles away! And dont even touch the "because it tastes better" angle. Look online and you will find a myriad of studies that showed, in a blind taste test, people actually prefer the taste of tap water to any of the bottled waters.)
