i completely agree. trance is what i LOVE. but the last 2 years havent been trance, and i have been living off classics, trance 98-2003 style. i am out of touch with todays scene. if u can call it that.

its either as u say cheesy/generic or that tech/electro guff..

one great new tune to really impress, is mark norman - niagara. real trance check out the link.

"Highlander" is an amazing intro. It's a shame that Tastexperience have made only a few such quality tracks more.
"Paradise" who would've thought it's a Vengaboys tune? Stunning but the beginning is definitely a "The Gift" rip-off. "Riser" is a great uplfiting trance as well, also featured on one of Tiesto's Magik comp (it was 4th afaik), but soooo underrated. It surely deserves more spotlight.

Three different tracklists?

I thought there was only one set in Shanghai.. in my computer its just one set which has this name 'Paul Oakenfold - Live in Shanghai Essential Mix 1999'

How many live sets did he did in Shanghai? Looks like I only have one.

The one Ian posted he was just saying about his Favourite oakey set...it had nothing to do with Shanghai

Yeah, the 2 tracklists differ slightly (less tracks on 1) - not sure which is correct, will listen to the set and check

this thread prompted me to break that set out again, some great tunes in there for sure. i also noticed that the version i have is messed up, i'm actually missing about 45 minuets of the set

Couldn't have said that better myself. The 1999 China EM is amazing...and the newest decent "trance" tracks I have are from 2006.

Any other suggestions?

Absolutely. I actually used to prefer Armin's mix, which I had heard before the original many years ago, but as the original grew on me (and Moogwai's essential production style, for that matter), I came to find out what a remarkable gem that was.

That said, the 2005 remixes were actually quite serviceable.

Wow i dont know anyone else who prefers the original i've always felt like an outcast because armin's mix of viola never did anything for me hehe.

Good set, my mate collects oakie records, he managed to get symphonic music with "people want to be needed" for only 100 bucks! Considering only 250 copies of symphonic were made.
