1. Heroin.

Can be dangerous, although the "dangers" of both addiction and withdrawal are consistently overblown by movies and the news media. Most people who try it do not become addicted, and death or serious injury from withdrawal is almost nonexistent except for in pregnant women.

quote:
2. Crack/ Cocaine ( the greedy drug)

Can be, but again, lots of people use without any big impact on their lives. Withdrawal also overblown.

quote:
3. Barbituates (pink ladies etc)

No real argument with that. Pretty high overdose potential and can be bad withdrawals.

quote:
5. Alcohol ( generally regarded as the #1 public health issue)

Yeah. One of the few that both decreases coordination and increases confidence. Can be a deadly combination. Awful withdrawals.

quote:
6. Ketamine.

Eh. Occasional use isn't very dangerous at all. Heavy use is bad for your brain.

quote:
7. Vallium, benzodiazepine.

Not really all that dangerous if used occasionally. As with alcohol, can have hellish withdrawal.

quote:
8. Amphetamine ( speed)

Can be pretty nasty stuff.

quote:
9.Cigarettes/ tobacco.

Yep, especially heavy use.

quote:
11.Cannabis ( due to dependancy, memory-loss, paranoia phsycosis...these are after prolonged use)

Ridiculous. Significant lung cancer risk with heavy use, but otherwise, you'll be fine. If you eat it, you're basically risk-free.

quote:
12. Solvents.

No argument.

quote:
14. L.S.D. ( at one point in the 50's was prescribed to over 40,000 in U.K)

Very little risk if you have a sober person around. Not much more of a risk alone, either, unless you have pre-existing mental conditions.

quote:
17. G.B.H

GHB, that is; somewhat risky in terms of measuring out the right dose. Not all that risky in itself.

quote:
18. Ecstacy ( yes ..number 18 you media- manipulating government shysters )

Only because people put crap in pills. MDMA itself is only harmful to people with heart problems and ones who drink too much / too little water.

quote:
20. Khat ( a natural leaf stimulant which can be chewed raw )

Ridiculous.

The "danger" of almost any drug lies primarily in the users and dealers, not in the drugs themselves.

People with poor impulse control and high present-orientation are likely to get addicted. Stupid and reckless people are likely to take too much or drive while drunk or high. And in a black market, there is no regulation of quality, so unscrupulous dealers will sell things under a phony label.

That about covers the "dangers" of drugs.

Basicly everything below alcohol should be legal really.

Come on now...during 40 minutes of torture , one wee misstake is not bad .

MrJive Bojingles ..I think the participants had been given this top 20 'perceived' dangerous drugs list. Then had to interpret in their own opinion how it should be compiled using various criteria. An actual definitive list would surely be practically impossible. But I certainly agree with your sentiments .
I still know many people who perceive xtc takers alongside junkies. All of the experts agreed that it should be downgraded to a class C. Im quite sure that at the time The very infuencial Alcohol Lobby were instrumental , along with a tax-deprived government, in demonising the 'disco-biscuit'.

Khat does seem a bit weird to be included there. Though some of the effects of khat can make people do crazy stuff. just ask the Somalis

Posted by Zharen on Feb-07-2008 10:00:

Checked the list to see which ones I've done. I'm 11/20. Meh, figured I would do better. Ah well.

I could see quite a few other drugs that should be on that list: PCP, DXM, 2cb (If E and cid's on there, 2cb should be on there as well), other opiates like oxycontin, etc.

I really don't know what the Hell khat is, but it couldn't possibly be worse than PCP.

That list is way out of order and some of that shit like LSD and weed don't even belong on there.

do they mean 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methamphetamine? AKA MDMA? Which is the primary active chemical in "ecstasy" tabs? In fact, I've always regarded ecstasy as the more dangerous substance, since I always just figured ecstasy was a generic term for street pills that are supposed to contain MDMA, but often with a cocktail of other additives.

Or have I just taken too much 4MDMA?

There was a similar list compiled by an international group of physicians (The DHI [drug harm index] or something?) I'm researching now...

Yeah, I'm guessing by 4-MDMA they are referring to pure MDMA and by ecstasy they are referring to the pressed pills sold as ecstasy that contain god knows what chemicals. Those two should definately swap positions on the list.

Still know ppl??
My ENTIRE country (Croatia) still has this perception.
Fuck, my parents still viewed weed-smokers as bad as being a junkie.
"A drug is a drug"
