+1 look no further than Human Blue.
Also Oliver Prime and Nicholas Bennison fuses progtrance with psytrance in an excellent way.

again, not what i'm after.. i'm well aware of both those artists anyway

i listened to a fair few human blue tunes last year but the only one i can really remember grabbing me was zero tonic passion. the new harvest remix & virtual turnaround were alright, think i deleted the others though... seemed to sound more like progpsy than trance anyway from what i remember. i'll have to give them another listen sometime.

what is trance? what are you refering to?

Posted by JonDC on Feb-09-2008 18:23:

In my opinion, J00F and the Digital Blonde are the best producers in the scene. Like some of the others in this thread, I am not a huge fan of the Psy Trance scene - all of the parties I have been to have been full of what to me sounded very very generic. A lot of it seems to me like music that was trying desperatly not no be regular trance, but i doing this it only generates to its own formulas. It kind of trys to be intelligent for the sake of being intellegent, and lacks in substance (this is all just my opinion, and I am aware that there are many psy producers which this does not apply to atall).

I find that the J00F/digital blonde take on things does bridge the gap between psy and regular trance, and for me maintains the best elements of each. I only wish that more people made this kind of stuff, because as a previous poster said, there is a lot of musical ground to be covered.

However, I also think that 0.0DB do actually have their own formula. I dont think this is such a bad thing, because the style is new and I like the sounds, but I still think that there is room for some variation in their productions. They could do with trying a few slower paced tracks, maybe using vocals more (I think that some of John's old vocal remixes have came off really well). A vocal ballad kind of tune in the 0.0DB style could be amazing! I think opinions of the Digital Blonde's remix of 'lost in you' are unanimously good!

The other thing is that I think as much as everyone loves the J00F and DB tunes, most peoples favourite of all would still be the original mix of Legato. I think a few more regular trance masterpieces like this are what the scene really needs at the moment!

Just my thoughts anyway; I cant wait for the psy trance euphoria CD to be released, and I loved 0.0DB at gatecrasher (don't think they could have done much more than an hour though!)

well trance is a massive blanket term, that's not how i meant it there though.. i was a bit vague. i meant peaktime epic trance.. not for its big melodies & long breakdowns, but for that kind of tempo/groove/pace/energy.. only with darker psyish influences in there instead of euphoric/floaty bollocks

some of my own attempts for you to better get how i mean: 1, 2, 3

the first one there sounds very generic. the others were decent.
One thing I have noticed is that the new producers seems to be really jerky when it comes to using acid lines in their productions. Compare those acid lines in those samples to older tunes such which uses the Roland 303. Why are they afraid of pushing the raw acid sound to the max?

i don't think it's fear as much as lack of equipment.. i'd love to be able to get that classic raw acid sound but there's only so much you can get out of vanguard & phosycon :/

didnt you see them playing the keyboards?

also, j00f doesn't really do a "jesus" pose, as in the style of that tiesto pic...he just waves his arms about in the breakdowns and pumps up when its about to go bang

i agree with jondc on a few things, i said something similar on the j00f forum. have you heard their track 'sutra'? its the b-side to legato. i would love more tunes like that even some prog breaks kinda stuff too.

Posted by RebeL9 on Feb-10-2008 10:25:

I love some of Rickys old breaks productions such as Katria and Antheum (Future Retro Millenium mix)

i said it didn't sound like it.. it's possible to mime on keyboards

not saying they definitely did, just that it didn't really have that 'live' sound to it from where i was standing. was still a fucking great set all the same though

well another reason is the sound might not actually be from that night, they might have just chucked a couple of samples to go along with the video hehe

haha note to self: read what the other person said first
i thought you still meant the video!

J00F absolutely ROCKED on Friday night!

I just wish I knew the name of his penultimate track, just before a rather bland remix of Robert Miles - Children.

I would have taken a clip, but I was dancing my arse off, lol!

the "rather bland" remix of children is probably the tilt one, he plays that often. i don't think it's really "rather bland"

Well, it had no break to speak of, just plodded along after the piano bit.

Took a video thinking it would be more and it is very anti-climactic.

The track before it though, hoo-boy, was a corker!

Alright mate hows it going?
If you think the tilt mix of children was flat, its probably cuz he didnt let it breakdown the second time - it comes back with the melody second time around. Bottom line - its an absolute corker

Anyway, he ended on children at the opera house a couple of weeks ago and the tune he played before that was astrix - coolio (infected mushroom rmx). I guess it could have been that again, but you probably already know that tune dont ya?

This deep dark psy influenced stuff is really refreshing. I'm not really familiar with any of John 00's stuff, or Digital Blonde for that matter, are there any tracks or sets you guys would recommend?

Mandrake - Universal Soul (Digital Blonde Remix)
One of my favourites.

For John's part i could recomend
John 00 Fleming - Rasa Lila (Rasa Lila - Part2)

Thanks very much, I'll be sure to check them out.
