I do not understand what stops the Australian government to do what the New Zealand government does. No whaling whatsoever in their territorial waters...? Endangered or not! The majority of Australians do not like the whaling so that should be a hint for our government. I bet you any sum there is just another dirty under the table deal involved that the public isn't aware of.
I say - fuck the governments and start the revolution now!

well an ambassador went to talk to the japanese, and they agreed to disagree-- it's possible we'd offend the japanese, who we do a lot of trade with etc, if we just told em to fuck off...??
esp for a reason like "some n00bs (uneducated (on the issue) citizens (like you and I)) think you shouldn't be doing this"

Most countries don't recognise antarctic waters as territorial, or so I've been told. Something like that.

(Just to show I'm not supporting the whaling) While the Minke's aren't endangered, the Fin whales are and the Japanese plan on taking 50 of those.

anywho............ how about those Norwegians?

We'll see how much they enjoy a different kind of wailing.

for scientific research, of course

by the way, boycott Norway?

After all, it is more than those evil Japs........

Norway dont whale in our waters, and I think they escape under the same guise as Japan. Theres nothing Asutralians can do about Norway, directly.

A strong message to Japan, which if eventually restricts whaling, hopefully eliminating, would then put international pressure on Norway.

Do you know how many countries officially recognise Australia's Antarctic waters? Four. Yep, I believe that is the official word and Japan is not one of those countries.

Those waters are therefore not Australian Waters at all, which is why the government doesn't use the navy to enforce the space. Why? Well because that would be piracy in open waters and this country would be royally raped by all others for such actions.

I totally disagree with the Japs and their bullshit excuses for whaling so much but you have to step back and see the legal implications of leading with your heart instead of your brain and doing what you want. Politicians may mostly be lazy, lying bastards but at least when it comes to issues like this they know how the legal merry-go-round works better than most of us.
