also, i think it's funny how anon is essentially undergoing the same strategy as scientology is with regard to 'the obliteration of psychiatry'

anon's communication seems exceedingly rational compared to the shit you will hear scientologists speak amongst themselves (see video in recent thread)

The BBC covered that:
quote:
Masked demonstrators gathered outside London's Church of Scientology in protest against the organisation.

The group, called Anonymous, said they wanted to highlight the organisation's "inherent flaws" and "fight for freedom of knowledge and information".

The City of London Police said about 200 people took part in the peaceful protest in Queen Victoria Street.

After about two hours the protestors moved to the Scientology Recruitment Centre in Tottenham Court Road.

Similar gatherings took place outside Scientology Centres across the UK and in countries including Australia, Canada and the US.

In a video statement broadcast online, the organisers said: "The idea of Anonymous is to systematically dismantle the Church of Scientology in its present form."

'Religious bigotry'

They said they were campaigning against "toxic ideals" and a "corrupt leadership", not the beliefs of members.

Anonymous posted a Scientology video of Tom Cruise on the internet last month, which was taken down after complaints about copyright infringement.

Janet Laveau, from the Church of Scientology, said the protest group were "cyber-terrorists" motivated by "religious bigotry".

She said: "The actions of Anonymous will not interrupt the church's normal activities serving its parishioners and the community, and the church is working in co-ordination with local authorities to minimize the negative impact of this mask-wearing, cyber-terrorist group."

The protests were held on 10 February to mark the birthday of Lisa McPherson, an American scientologist who died in 1995 while under the care of the organisation.

Really interesting all this...

Anonymous has failed.

The entire point of Anonymous is to be anonymous. To work behind the covers, in the shadows.

As soon as people left their homes, they stopped being Anonymous and just ended up being loser b-tards WITH A CAUSE.

Remember people. These are the folks that are okay with CP, guro, rape, etc...

Yeah, my favorite was their protest in Orlando a few weeks back, where they had videos of them without the masks, seemed quite odd for a group of people that call themselves 'Anonymous' to do such a thing.

Actually, they were all masked, which is a way of keeping their anonymity...

fuck that. "religious tolerance" is for the weak and misguided. tolerance is how this shit got an opinion above its station in the first place.

short of killing anyone i support whichever methods they choose to employ.

Falso!

Some of them truly did play the part of 'V'. The truly anonymous ones (just a few handful of people) actually had voice scramblers.

playing your game then, the church would have to wiretap the world to find these people. so who cares if their voice is scrambled or not. you really think that they are going to have all those people followed and the likes? hell no. too many people and too many resources.

Uh. I didn't say anything about the Church of Scientology? lol

nono, what he meant was that even if people didn't use voicescramblers or whatever, just the masks, its not like COS is/was going to try and find out who they were/are....i.e. to make them truly not "anonymous".

at least, thats what i thought.

Posted by bas on Feb-12-2008 02:30:

I had some friends that wanted to go to the one up here in Hollywood. I was 100% down to go, but I had to be at work that morning. They ended up backing out because one of them didn't want to wear the mask. What a fucking twat.

but no other organization would go to the extent they do unless they have a vested interest. basically no one but the government really.

Posted by wizniz on Feb-12-2008 02:52:

anonymous isnt a select group, its you and me.

you dont participate, you are.

do what you feel is right and you wont stand alone.

that is anonymous

With that mentality, Scientologists, too, are anonymous.

A voice that echoes the opinion of a crowd is just as anonymous as a scrambled voice, don't you think?

No no! We're on different wavelengths!

When I originally said "anonymous", I meant the mentality. That's where the 'falso' came in.

Anonymous does not forgive and all that shtick.

The rest of my post was agreeing with you (about people being anonymous). Some took it to the full 100% anonymous state. The others were, like you said, just a bit there.

Oh, got it. Yeah, I can't say I agree with them, but I can't say I disapprove of their actions either — they're exercising their right to free speech against an organisation that is rather intolerant against different opinions. If you think about it this way, I can't see how one wouldn't feel impelled to condone their attitude. I'm afraid, nevertheless, that they'll become just as intolerant as the ideas they're fighting...

"Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one." - Friedrich Nietzsche

In spite of this dilemma, I find this all really interesting... unlike flash mobs, which are essentially harmless, I think this shows what the internet is really capable of.

some scary fucks out there

DEAR G-D TELL ME YOU'VE READ OR SEEN MONSTER (MANGA, ANIME).

Reading the Nietzsche quote gave me chills.

I think the most interesting part is that the majority of those that showed up were in their teens and twenties (pretty much the age category that vists 4chan regularly). The younger generation's stepping up!

The internet is an extremely powerful tool... Maybe even too powerful. Some day we might even see some sanctions. And that's when all the blocks fall down. But that's just my assuming.
