I play records too. But I refuse to whore myself for gigs. Had fun last night at Pink though. Missy Chrissy is also up there. My two cents

Vancouver's top Djs by genre:

Trance - Digital Over (Or Danny Taylor if he's in town)
Prog - Kevin Shiu
Psy - Chris from Organix
House - Various (Im not wading into that one)
Speed Garage - Scotty Oh (When he's not in Jail) or Major Josh
Breaks - Clockwork is pretty good. Sure, lets take him.
DNB - NO #^%^ CLUE
Techno - Miss Innocent

Uh Illesha and Psydream just to name two for D&B who BOTH have multiple releases on breakbeat science a label from NYC run by Dara who is a third of planet of the drums. Illy just finished a full length studio album and is having a release party at the Plaza Club on March 15th.
And the other thing Sean that really surpises me - is your anti dj attitude akin to Kelly's anti cd policies. What is with all the hate? A DJ is just that DJ NOT a producer and I believe that was more what the original question was about in the first place.

my four cents.

Konrad Black used to be a DnB DJ here and then went al crazy with the techno minimal when he moved to Berlin. Now he's an f'n superstar. Love his stuff.

Also thx for the quick mention there Elena, guess I'm not much of a presence for TAs with the stuff I play.

i had a post written where I mentioned you (again?) but I ended up deleting it. I rant too much here.

Maybe some of you guys should start your own promo group. Find a venue, run a night for 3 weeks and every 4th bring in someone you can afford. I know I know it'll never work for SO many reasons, but we can dream can't we? A place for the unhearlded TA DJs to play and be heard!

there once was a thursday night called driven. i hear ya buddy. Maybe Julian and I can play GM place between periods at the Canucks games.

Just my opinion. The age of Judge jules where a dj can be big without writing tracks is over.

Julian Chow is VERY VERY underrated.........its a shame he doesnt get the recognition he deserves.

Danny Taylor is always a good time with fresh tracks and good energy.

I refuse to DJ. Peeps tried getting me into it and it's all cool, and
chicks will fuck you, but honestly ... too many DJ's. I'd like to see
people grab a book and start producing. Simple DJ's get no respect from me.

mathew jonson is probably the biggest vancouver dj/producer...

he is HUGE in europe...and feaking insane! if you like in minimal ;-)

Posted by exergo on Feb-28-2008 09:22:

i will also say that too many times i've seen "amazing producers" who suck at djing....

yes an dj who don't produce will never blow up internationally, but locally it usually doesn't make a difference if you produce or not...

you have to be great at both to get noticed.

DJs who whinge about not getting gigs should either make hits or become promoters.
