fuck yeah this is what i'm most amped about for this year - i heard his set last year was the shit (i would have lost my mind when he dropped stylophonic - all nite long). danny is legendary for his marathon's, which i've never seen one (yeah people are gonna say that he needs 12 hrs) but this will be triple the length that i've ever seen him play so i'm cool with it

Desyn Masiello was standing right next to me on the dancefloor last year when he dropped that tune. I told Desyn,"Danny is stealing tunes from your cds buddy" haha

o U I have no words for this set last night. No fucking words. He was dropping sick house all up until around 1:30ish. and then, well what happened from 2-5 a.m. is beyond my understanding. Straight banging techno bombs for 2 fucking hours. Every single fucking song was destroying. It wasn't like this song is great or this song is straight. No it was full hard on banging techno i.d. after another. I have never heard anything even remotely close to as good as I did last night live. Danny Howells is fucking god. to top it off he switched it up at around 4:15ish and started dropping some amazing electro house/electronica/tech house. Straight fucking in your face bombs. the sound system was great. i'm fucking deaf now. Stryke was killing upstairs as well.

Only 3 songs i could i.d. last night from howells were

Do Us Part(Len Faki Mix)
Dead Souls(Radio slave Mix)
Alter Ego-Gary(Original Mix)

I remember stryke dropped.

Samuel L. Session-Smokestack(SLS Version 1)
Legowelt-Disco Rout(deetron mix)

Yeah, the show was amazing, I actually enjoyed it more then Sasha & Digweed last night. Only song I recognized was Gregor Tresher - A Thousand Nights

so before i left for wmc i was concerned that i was building this night up too much in my own mind - well i can assure you i did not.

as others have said howells fucking killed it - set of the conference for me hands down.

he dropped a breaks track @ 4:15a that was INSANE. me and the gf just looked at each other like OMFG.

set [the club] was way better when they removed half of the vip tables//seats (surprised they didn't do that earlier, but i guess they wanted to see if they could make more money)

obviously everyone saw zabs hangin out in the booth with howells, but i also saw hernan cattaneo, demi and (lol) josh gabriel chillin in the crowd takin in howells set.

lol @ the end when howells said "oi you wankers, don't fuck off yet!" after his closer (b/c everyone was leaving and he was going to play another track - but they booted him)

my gf has a bunch of vids and pics as soon as she gets around to uploading them i'll share em.

Posted by rudeflame on Apr-01-2008 03:54:

I showed up around 2...fire marshall had me waiting with hernan and zabiela for at least 20-25 minutes -- thought that was kinda cool, even hernan/zabs had to wait...

when i got there...it was an AMAZING place...loved the co2 stuff, the decor...the high ceilings...really pretty club, great sound (when u sit...everything vibrated)

met sam and diego...pretty chill way to satrt off the week

for me i think his mixing was great/videos were vcool (i liked the fingers/hand video) but some of his tracks got a bit repetitive...the sound would make me space out...but then right as i would start to say ugh this is getting boring...he dropped massive tracks...( i rememeber two or 3 off his promo mix)...I was really impressed by him in general

super cool dj and a really gd party (i woudlnt say it was the best)

LOL. I shouldn't be allowed near a computer for at least a few more days after all the partying I did.

lol well as long as you review it, i'm curious to see your thoughts on this year's set vs last years...

Posted by GUBostonDubs on Apr-02-2008 23:09:

This party truly lived up to it's billing.

I got into set a little before 10:30pm after a short trip from our hotel which was very convenient about this year's Dig Deeper set instead of having to travel all the way downtown on the first night of the conference again. Danny was playing his usual deep and chill housey beats to start off the night. I was quite worried when I stood in the middle of the dancefloor and heard how brutal the sound was at the time. The bottles on the back bar adjacent to the Dj booth were rattling with how overpowering the bass was on the system. It just sounded like the music was going to sound terrible on this system. To my relief and Danny's too (I swear he was offering sexual favors to the sound technician) the sound got MUCH better once the bass was turned down on the master. Danny continued to pace things gently with deep and sexy grooves and alot of percussive tech house. It was almost sounding like straight up tribal house for a time.

Around 1130 or so some funkier beats started making their way through the speakers as the dancefloor and most of Set began to fill up. I personally like to hear the warm up stuff that Danny plays so I was there as early as possible and this seemed like a good idea seeing that Set had a much smaller capacity than Pawn Shop had the previous 2 years. Danny started picking up the pace with some funky bombs and groovy tech house beats but nothing too over the top just yet. He was setting everything up at the right time like he pretty much always does. He soon started to get that goofball sinister smile he gets when he really knows he's got the crowd's attention now and was going to really let the chains come off.

Around midnight or a little after, I could have sworn I heard Science Department's - Repercussion or at least a remix of it. The original was on one of my favorite cd's of all time - Digweed's Bedrock cd. It was quite a nice thing to hear on your first night of the wmc. Not too long after this Danny played this track that sounded very similar to New Order's Blue Monday. I have no idea what it is but would certainly like to get my hands on it. He would mix in a vocal track here and there and really got the crowd going and started picking up the pace towards the peak time techno bangers that he is known for. All of a sudden Danny drops one of the nastiest acid house tunes I've ever heard and the dancefloor really starts to go wild at this point. He plays a more tracks of this nature and the crowd is completely into it and Danny is completley getting into his set and the mixing is spot on as it was all night. He has transformed Set from a classy and tame club that it was at the beginning night into an all out party frenzy with the peak time music that now was coming out. It was on like donkey kong! Techno bangers with trippy melodies and heavy basslines tested the sound system of Set and in my opinion it sounded really good. He would drop a funky track in the middle of the techno to make it even more bearable with the harder music. Tracks like Yellow Sox - Zig Zag and Len Faki's remix of Par Grindvik - Do Us Part rocked the dancefloor. He continued to provide a techno thrashing to the dancefloor for the next 2 hours or so and needless to say the music was badass and dirty. Around 4 or so he started to cool things off a bit and drop funky dirty grooves with a sick breaky tune mixed in here and there. He finished things in classic Danny style by playing GU 27 Miami classic Unit 4 - Body Dub (Tiefschwarz Remix) as well as playing Inner City - Big Fun (Simian Mobile Disco Remix) and a few weird yet cool beats such as Alter Ego's Gary and a few rock tune originals here and there. It was the best Danny Howells set for me ever because it brought that signature WMC miami Howells vibe that he can create along with mixing in the newest and nastiest Techno and tech-house grooves mixed with Funky and really fun house beats. It was a mixture of everything with excellent programming and mixing the entire night - Can't ask for anything more than that. Set had a really cool light display including a non-tacky laser. See you next year!
