There's an amazing book about oil and its history but its in French only... sadly.
It was a real eye opener for me at least.
The whole world runs on oil, our era was built with it. Not soon it will be replaced, and wars will be fought for the last drop. Because oil equals the survivance of the civilization, not only profit is done with its extraction and sale, but every liter of oil let us produce goods and services far exceeding its cost, our quality of life depends on it, hence the famous : "The American Way of Life is Not Negotiable" by the Bush administration, its implication are far reaching.
