Well damn, this even exceeds my expectations.
I think I will like this even more than Salamat, which was just a tad too ethnic sounding for my taste.

Don't you think it's a little condescending to call it "ethnic" just because it isn't Western in origin?

Posted by Jasperovitsj on Mar-19-2008 14:55:

As far as I know there is no condescending connotation to the term "ethnic" If Moshic had used Native American chants or old Balkan influences, they would still be ethnic in origin, no matter where they came from. Nothing condescending about that. Trust me, the anthropology courses I took at university taught me to not be ethnocentric in my views.

Thumbs up

Indeed sounds like fantastic album but I wouldn't expect anything less from Moshic. Great producer!

I'll definitely be getting this, even though I've pissed off the entire Moshic forum with my Music Disc thread about the cover

Wouldn't that mean that all music with a distinct cultural source becomes "ethnic"? Hip-hop, house, techno, blues and rock are all ethnic American music, but you'd never refer to them as such.

I'm currently hyper-sensitive to this issue, having recently read Orientalism by Edward Said. I've just noticed how people never ascribe "ethnic" to any white, Western styles of music even if they're undeniably centred around one area.

you pissed off? sorry for you, try to be involved in better subject then the album cover, its' all about the music and not about the cover, if you dont' like the cover buy the album in digital format.

Learn more English

I'm not pissed off, they are pissed off with me for saying that. Although the cover IMO is rubbish, its the music that I care about in the end.

I don't think so. I think that American music can be called ethnic when it contains Indians cultural elements.

Nice samples!

If it's white it's "folk", if it's not white it's "ethnic".

the 2cd is absolutely pure high standard, and quality music that no one that i know can make this kind of music.

Why do you think that is?

Wow I thought he died or something(looks like he had a kid?) I hadn't heard anything from him for awhile, thank God Moshic stuck to hits roots on this and didn't jump on the bandwagon. loving the samples so far

I know exactly what you mean. When I first read Orientalism a few years ago my eyes opened up. That single book have forever changed my perception of ethnicity and culture. I remember that I once stepped into a store which was called "Oriental food and spices" and told the manager that the name of his store was disturbing.

Anyway I can recommend a book by Saids friend, Joseph Massad. It's called "Desiring Arabs" and was recently published. If you liked Orientalism this one will indeed be of your taste.

It's not that I liked it, because I had to read it, but it certainly makes a strong point and you can see evidence for it everywhere after you've read it. I wrote an essay applying it to Enigma's music.

You haven't been paying attention much then, he's been pretty consistent with the pace of his releases.
