p.s. damn you guys for having him as a resident dj

Not sure, but he's from my shitty shitty town and used to play regularly at a club (Sterns, it was called) literally down the road from me. If only I was 16 years or so older....

lol speaking of Joof. Ministry of sound released a psy compilation? Wtf... didn't know the genre was getting that bad.

Posted by Jono404 on Mar-14-2008 05:33:

Yeah I was listening to it the other day, I know fuck all about psy (have some 90s goa though like mwnn, fluoro stuff etc), but a lot of the tracks on the full-on mix just reminded me of standard hard dance like you get with the other euphoria cds.

Thats because its a pretty terrible representation of psy.

search for new talented djs
trance isnt dead because of big money-head djs

Posted by Ste on Mar-14-2008 19:49:

Psy is doing alright, although you still can't put on uber massive events and expect lots of punters.

Commercial trance is doing shit, and most of the big events just appeal to tourist clubbers to make gatecrasher/cream/mos etc. some more money from their brand.

Posted by Dj O'Callaghan on Mar-14-2008 19:56:

It's dead in a way I'm quite glad as it's been shit for ages. When I listen to some tracks I would of listened to six or so years ago I cringe.

Over here we like new music and we like things to be innovative. A lot of the other scenes are lot more healthy in the UK these days.

Posted by Jono404 on Mar-14-2008 20:12:

But people are saying everything's dead in the UK atm, breaks and hard dance are meant to be 'dead' aswell.

Seems to me that the kids today either listen to shit like basshunter and cascada, or moronic 'dnb' like pendulum. Proper dance music doesn't seem to have much of a presence in the chart anymore, so there's no way for people to get into the scene.

Dubstep isn't. Well... at least it wasn't last time I checked.

Yeah!!!

But i don't want to trust everything in Moby!

Maybe we should at least try to produce some classic-trance as well? Early-to-mid-90s trance and prog-house FTW.

Yeah but it's a fairly recent development. Give it 2 years and people will be questioning whether the British dubstep scene is dead or not.

Posted by enydo on Mar-14-2008 20:35:

You'd need a pretty large shift to bring trance(as it was) back. Most producers that chug out the mainstream crap these days will continue to do so since it nets them exposure and cash. Plus, people who know shit-all about good dance music eat that pop crap up like candy.

I'd love to see it happen someday though. I still love the older style stuff, but I can't even listen to the recent stuff.

Posted by Jono404 on Mar-14-2008 20:39:

In the liner notes of an old MOS trance cd I have it says something like 'trance is the sound of the millennium, and while critics say it won't last, trance shows no signs of slowing down' hahaha

Posted by nz-fan on Mar-14-2008 20:45:

You should move to Germany ......... then you can ask your question again

Posted by Dj Dizzy on Mar-14-2008 20:55:

i have no idea but i can tell you it has to be more alive in the UK than in the US.... sucks

if you look hard enough there are still some old schoolers around atlanta that throw parties aimed at "back in the days" type vibes. every few months or so i hear something about a party like that... after it happened

Yeah this is the other thing I don't get, so many people bang on about 'back in the day', how music was better then than it is now etc....enough people like classic trance, so why is there a lack of tunes? Maybe some of these people should get off their arses and learn to produce!

Posted by Noober on Mar-14-2008 21:42:

when you say classic trance do you mean like cosmic baby, dance 2 trance etc or later stuff?

Posted by Jono404 on Mar-14-2008 21:45:

I meant 95-99 progressive trance, I suppose classic trance is the earlier hypnotic stuff, technically

That's one kind of music I want to make, stuff in the general style of classic trance and prog-house but with modern mixing and mastering quality. I still have lots of work to do, but I'm plugging away at it...

I got a "Retro-mania-for-classic-EDM" recently and i've been listening to classic trance and prog-house tracks in youtube all the time! Man some of them are beautifull beyond words! Here are some:

S.P.Q.R. - "Unlimited Dreams" (1993)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DVB...feature=related

(prog-house of stunning beauty...)

Gipsy- "I Trance You" (1992)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn_-FohaB2o

(lush prog-house!)

Sublime- "Sublime" (23rd Precinct, 1991)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_PS2iZfc78

(i can't believe that this progger was produced in 1991!Nocturnal trancey riffs, sci-fi mysterious pads and funky-as-hell beats make a sublime track)

Brainchild- "Symmetry" (c mix) (1994)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYn3...feature=related

(no comments...i'm crying tears of laughter while i'm listening lol)

The Volunteers- "Sun-Down" (Eye-Q, 1992)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrcH...feature=related

(classic trancer. Perfect for inducing mystical experiences lol)

Steve Baltes - "Naked Brunch" (1994)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzhQs78vROY

(crazy hard trancer with sweet arpeggios and cosmic synth-choruses yeesssss!)

Resistance D- "Dark-Side" (1994)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3Hcb_h5lX0

(holy shit, you tube is full with resistance d videos!!! Now this is what i call trance, this IS Trance with a capital T. relentless four-to-the-flour kick backed by ominous timpani(!) and terminator-like post-apocalyptic chords all (dish)armonically mixed, before an ecstatic arpeggio joins towards the end.)

This is inevitably going to happen to everything new (and it is to a certain extent already happening to dubstep as well). It's good there are people who are constantly questioning the way the music/scene is heading. Those are the ones who push things forward.

Bollocks to the charts dude. Christ look how much electronic music has been slaughtered in the UK when tracks and acts have gone on a commercial tip. I'd much rather things be kept low key.

People can get into dance music just by discovering tracks as simple as that. We still have people like Pete Tong playing at peak times on the most popular radio station and the essential mix too, trust me there will always be a demand for edm.
