Holy shit! High five to that! I played Guitar Hero for a bit and even thought I started to get the hang of it I still hate the game.

As you should be! It's super duper fun. Since I introduced my little game to the gang, it has started to spread a little bit. I'll show you next time I'm around

No, it involves paper, pens, and creative thought!

People who 'fiddle around' with MIDI are creating something, they are making or augmenting sounds and tracks.

GH is a game. Yes, you are triggering sounds, but you create nothing and at the end of it, instead of something new to put on beatport, you get 'You Rock' and a chance to play again.

Lol - Sure but, modify your GH Axe and you can make your own music too...

Im not knocking ppl who 'fiddle around with MIDI.' I make and release music too but I think the point is that things like GH and Rock Band prove that a new arena for musical creativity is on the rise... People have been taking things like GH and hacking them for ages for musical purposes.

These guitars are only toys because they are limited, at this particular moment, to playing other people's songs. This is a software problem, and not representative of some lasting defect with the device.

It's already been resolved by the community many times over. When Harmonix delivers a composition suite with the next Rock Band (or the next), and people start creating and uploading their own albums, it's going to be pretty hard to maintain the fiction that people are playing with toys.

It still boils down to people uploading pre-made songs though. With MIDI you are creating the songs... not just assigning a color pattern to an existing song.

[keep in mind, I don't know how the composition suite works. Is is just a program to transpose existing songs, or is it an actual music creation suite? In the case of the latter, isn't that just a MIDI anyways?]

As I understand it, it's supposed to actually be a simplified music creation suite. Either way I'd say the lines are being blurred.

Pretty interesting!

Definately! In that case, the GH axe would basically become a MIDI controller.

I thought this thread was gonna be about the kid I saw on Ellen's show kicking ass at Guitar Hero...

I personally have not played the game and honestly don't see the big deal with it. I rather run around the levels of Goldeneye shooting.

That kid is sikkkk as well, but Jenn, you gotta try it, you try it and you can get hooked. Although there is nothing wrong with a good game of Goldeneye
