I bet u any money armin will get lazy and lay low ..as well as tiesto..once your #1 dj its like your in retirement and theres no pressure or drive to become the best. I'd like to mention paul van dyk is still #1 in my books and he is not settling down any time soon.

speaking of #1dj's i believe ferry will be next ..maybe markus schulz and sander van doorn following ferry.

I think Ferry has already had his days of fame. Still popular but wont hit that "#1" status. i can see SVD being there with all the hype around him. But whatever its all a popularity contest.

Ok, yeah more variety would be great, but IMO Toronto has had an immense variety of DJs make their way through in 2006, 2007, and lets hope 2008 will not be any different. So, if one very popular DJ is here more often than others, and you are clearly not a fan, save youself some money, stay at home. Or go check out another venue. There is shitloads of stuff happening practically every weekend.

I hope you were kidding, but sounds like you weren't. I would strongly disagree and say the DJs coming to Toronto over the past 2 years have been FAR FROM an "immense variety". If by "immense variety" you mean mainstream EDM genres then I guess you're right.

I would say there has definately been a greater variety of DJs over the last year coming to Toronto.....that being said.......places like Guvernment and TiL bring the same recycled international DJs year in and year out....now that may just be because of contracts with INK but I don't know.....I think places like Circa, MOD Club and Footwork have helped diversify the DJs and genres that come to Toronto.

I will agree that there has been a greater variety of DJs coming to Toronto than years past, but it's still FAR FROM an "immense variety". Places like Germany, Switzerland, Holland, and Japan ... THEY see an *immense variety* of DJs. Even Montreal sees a greater variety of DJs come in than Toronto.

Clubs like Circa have improved the variety a bit compared to 2 or 3 years ago, but even Circa seems to be bringing some of the same names, or names that have been in Toronto many times already.

Yes, for the most part there have been many many mainstream DJs. And by 'mainstream' I mean mostly DJs that are fairly well known and have large followings around the world. There are quite a few that spin much more specified genres that have not set foot in Toronto. There are quite a few down in South America that I would LOVE to see here, but alas no luck. However, it would be incorrect, IMO, to say that the scene in Toronto has not had any variety. Parties, GOOD parties, are there, with plenty of genres represented. Trance and House being as popular as they are, can you really be surprised that most of the DJs comming through TO represent these genres? Does that mean we have a dry scene? No. Plus with a fairly limited scope of the scene, maily centered in Toronto and Montreal, and a fairly small population (related to US and most countries in the rest of the world) I'd say we've had it pretty good.

Toronto is the biggest city in Canada, so we're not that small. Even among mainstream genres like trance, there are still some BIG mainstream names that have never performed in Toronto. DJs like Alex Morph or Stoneface & Terminal for example are big names in the trance scene, yet they've never been to Toronto. Mainstream names of a mainstream genre (trance), and yet no Toronto performances.

Obviously Toronto has had *some* variety, like I said earlier. Toronto though has not had "immense variety" that you mentioned.

Morph and S&T are hardly 'big names'... sure they are known, to not even close to the caliber of pvd, tiesto, armin, svd, schulz and other djs that frequent toronto. I can see morph being booked, but not as the headliner. Not at GUV atleast.

No way's he's close to headlining Guv..

Anyone complaining about TO's scene is just crazy...
Literally, its a world class destination in the electronic music world

Endless bickering and whining. What a pointless thread.

Fahgettaboutit already. Bring on Sasha & Digweed.

Not big names? Typical for Toronto I guess. Everywhere else in the world, they ARE big names. Morph has been everywhere from Japan, to New York and LA. In the international trance scene, Morph and S&T are definitely mainstream and "big names". Obviously not as big as the BIGGEST names you just mentioned, but definitely mainstream in the scene.

Just because they're not in the Mixmag top 5 or they're not known in Toronto doesn't mean they're not big.

I enjoyed his shows back when I was 19 when I was new to everything and simply appreciated being in that environment....but looking back now I really dont understand....if you're going to be a dj....even a mediocre one...shouldn't beat matching be one of the first essential skills you aquire??
how do guys like Oakenfold make it when they can't even mix properly.....now that I've seen so many other djs who actually have talent....I wouldn't think twice about paying to see Jokenfold again...

Isn't that club in Niagara?? GAY!!!!! I like him but fuck. I'm not driving to bloody Niagara... not to mention I'd have to spend the money for a hotel as well. So lame. So unimpressed.

He can mix if he tries. I don't think you can lose your ability to mix, no matter how much coke you do.

this statement is questionable......if you can lose the ability to use fine motor skills, you can lost the ability to mix...anything can happen if enough blow is factored into the equation.....not that I know for experience or anything...

The 2nd-last time I saw Oakenfold in Toronto, his beat matching was ok.

But the last time I saw him in Toronto, it was a disaster. It was like amateur hour at the Kool Haus. It was ridiculous.

That being said, I figured he was on something...probably blow (like you said) plus a few beers.

As for Armin at Dragonfly...I'm there...again. LOL

Mixing (beatmatching AND phrase matching) is pretty standard but for me it's also tracklist that does it. It's THOSE two main things dj wise that will make an awesome set. If it flows and the party is rocking nothing beats it.
