Mr.Mystery always cries "alt" whenever someone is making these kind of threads, and on this one I agree. Next thread he makes will probably be about deadmau5 or tiesto.

Thank God for Sandstorm. Before I heard it I thought this was what EDM was.

Catchy song though.

Tiesto - Fly got me into trance.

On topic: Sandstorm vs. Soulja Boy takes the cake!

Sandstorm was really intense back in 2000. I first found it on a bootleg Club Exit cd from new york somewhere...then later that summer, everytime I went to the club they dropped it and the place went totally apeshit. Regardless of overplay or commercial success that the track saw, you can't deny it was the fucking shit.

Word, i really love the album

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Mar-26-2008 13:44:

It may be a decent glowstick anthem, but the fact is that Sandstorm is far too simplistic to stand up to the immense overplay it received, and now I'm so numbed to it through over-exposure I could happily never hear it played again.

Posted by a98 on Mar-26-2008 13:49:

atleast it was a great song, had a fresh original sound and prooved that even the most simplest melody can work if it's done well. unfortunetly the overplay totally killed the track and made me not wanna hear it ever again.

it's hard to say what i would think of the track if i would hear it now for the first time.

As to the topic, I have to admit that there's nothing technically or even musically wrong with Sandstorm. In fact, as far as building tension goes, it does better than a lot of anthem trance was doing at the time. The main problem is the novelty was lost after about the third time Darude played it in the same night.

I rememeber buying Ferry's Trance Nation 4 just for sandstorm basically, and then finding loads of other trance tracks I liked on it like Storm - Time To Burn, York - OTB and stuff like that. If I didn't know it and it was played to me I'd think it was a pretty mediocre trance track. I like Feel The Beat though, the percussion and bass on both sounds dated but the lead synths still sound pretty good imo.

lol @ video

That video had so many image edit/cuts and spastic-ness it felt like my pupils were being goatse'd.

As for the song.....
Personally would prefer something more complex and dynamic.

But to some extent you must give the man credit, as he has created something more popular than anyone else has created on these boards.
As depressing as that is, I wish I was raking in the revenues that song has created.

Sigh.

I think many got into trance with something like:

The Age Of Love - The Age Of Love

I didn't know it was released in 1990 !!!!
Think I heard it first around '93.

By the way, I didn't upload this...:

Maybe I'm getting old...(33)

I remember Sandstorm for Love Parade (think it was 2000).
Fuckin Great Track.
