I think that people should be thankful to have a world class venue such as the guv to party at...even if it's not your thing, the guvernment is an amazing venue and deserves the credit/recognition....and i don't know how anyone can bitch at the talent that is booked there...

some people will never be happy...

lol

So what you're saying is, if a customer is not happy with something a business is currently offering he should

a) shut up and accept what's available
or
b) start his own business and offer it to himself

?

I'm pretty sure...

c) voice preferences so that maybe the business in question will one day have an offering to fill that demand

...is the most realistic option here.

or frequent a business that has the offerings that you prefer....

Posted by Chris Allen on Mar-31-2008 20:36:

Stereo should be in there.

Solid list though, although Fabric being #1 is a bit off for me; it was pretty amazing, but it's not better than Guv in terms of what I look at for a club.

a business cannot keep EVERYONE happy....
its almost like djs. they play for the majority of the crowd and cannot expect to please everyone. if i wasnt happy with the product that one store had to offer i would shop somewhere else. i wouldnt sit around and bitch about how that store is shit and wait (and hope) that the store will stock that product in the future. its pointless.

I already tried. I had everything ready to go then the Docks pulled out last min because they didn't want to step on the guvs toes which is bull shit. So unless you know of a better venue that will actually compete then I really cant do anything but write this.

Sorry Jay but unless you actually know what was done you shouldn't be talking. Have you been to any of those so called top 10 clubs out there to even voice your opinion?

Space and Amnesia were good but The Guv just feels right.

Space was too small in my opinion, Amnesia was just amazing. It feels right because its home, nothing will ever be better than the feeling of being comfortable in your own city.

Thank you.

I can see where people can have a gripes with Guv in terms of Talent Booking, but there's a reason they've been successful profitwise - They do what works. Admittedly they'll take chances now and again, but in terms of trance they can't constantly bring in smaller, unestablished talent that just picked up DJing in the last 6 months (due to one of their singles getting picked up by a top jock, undoubtedly) and expect to turn a profit.

Mind you, I do feel that Guv does overlook some Trance and Progressive talent that I feel would go over well (Notably Super8 & Tab, Andy Moor, Smith & Pledger, John O'Callaghan etc.) but I completely respect and understand their booking process.

If you as a fan feel that other notable talent deserve recognition or the privilege to play @ Guv, there's no harm in lobbying the talent co-ordinators and promoters (to a degree - keep polite.. lol). Any interactions I've had with them have always been friendly and although they very much know what they're doing, helpful hinting never hurts.

LOL at you thinking Space was too small

Amnesia definitely felt like "home" the second I walked in the door though. I've heard that a few times from TOTAs...I wonder if it has to do with Guv, b/c it did for me.

I said it was amazing, and i was trying to say that sometimes partying at home is more comfortable than being off somewhere else.

And yes space (miami) is small. 1/2 of the club is a vip area and the other is the main room...lol at you for thinking otherwise, its an opinion. Compare it to Amnesia and tell me otherwise.

I'm pretty sure she's talking about Space, Ibiza.

the Guv caters to every crowd out there Ravers-Clubbers-Hip Hop-Ragaee-Rock Concerts-Corporate-Private partys they do it all thats why there one of the best venues in the city.....we are lucky to have a venue like Guv in toronto they have been around a long time and they'll be here for a long time to come.....they went head to head with the docks and pretty much won that.....now circa wants a piece and its going to be great for all of us cause were the consumers/cliental....there goin to compete for our money and dont be surprise if Guv picks up there game and fixes any problems they have sound/talent booking or watever.....
i dont think talent booking is that big of a problem cause they only book djs/artists that are able to draw a crowd and thats one of the reasons that kept them in business....

Dude, relax.

Graham is right...considering you mentioned Space and Amnesia in the same sentence, I assumed you were referring to the bars in Ibiza. I've never been to Space in Miami, so I wouldn't have any idea how small it is. So LOL at YOU for not being clear and then jumping on my back.

And if you could read English properly, you would realize that I was saying that when I went to Amnesia I had the feeling that I was at home b/c it reminded me of Guv. I thought that's what you were claiming there, as you mentioned how much you loved Amnesia and then partying at home right after.

You need to be more clear with what you're saying before you jump on me

You're asking her to read properly when you can't even spell properly.

And that's my opinion.

Quoting Armin. The guv is a lack of options in my opinion. I guarantee if they dropped an amnesia here or a space the guv would go under. I don't know if i would have had space (miami) in that spot either. Soundsystem and atmosphere is great but its very small??

Perhaps you should learn how to read, this was from my first post..

i was at Fabric in October...music selection there was phenomenal, but the facilities weren't too great...the main room only had one entrance so once you were deep in getting out was a nightmare. only one small laser in the room and no other lighting at all, a big change from the wicked lighting in the main Guv room. sound system was not impressive.

I've never had a bad time at the Guvernment, I usually spend my time in the smaller rooms as i'm not a trance fan. Whoever said the sound sucks at Guv is way off...I'll agree that the Kool Haus sounds distorted and lots of echoes and resonance, but in the main room the sound is incredible. Only place i've heard that was better was the Dynacord system at Boa, but that system is gone now...I heard it was moved to Turbo but someone got shot there or something and they closed down quickly after that.
