or whatever amount?

no... it was 15something then tax and delivery charge was extra $3+

delivery charge was $2

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Apr-01-2008 02:12:

Maybe delievery charge is because of the poor guys gas.

Fed Ex and UPS all raised their rates because of gas prices

Posted by getfoul on Apr-01-2008 02:13:

They get the delivery charge to cover gas and company insurance + a portion of it goes to a tip anyway. When they charge 3 dollars on top of the price of pizza, I know it doesn't take a gallon of gas to get to my place and back from the pizza place. I consider that the tip. If they have a problem with that, or they start expecting/relying on the tips to live they need to get a new job.

Bartenders make more in tips than they should. I would make a minimum of 25% in tips when I worked for just doing what makes me happy. It was more than I deserved but I won't turn it away. The difference is I will neither ask for nor expect a tip either.

Never piss people off that handle your food.
Remember, he has all the opportunities in the world to do whatever he wants to your pizza, and to stick those garlic sticks wherever he wants.

That's why you tip AFTER you get your food.

If you order from the same place often enough, he'll remember you... and act accordingly.

yes.. space is fuckin retarded at timess

If the service is shit and doesn't warrant tipping, chances are I won't order from that place again. If the service is good, then I'll tip anyways.

Well, you're not a dick then. So you don't have to worry.

If in fact you are a dick, like a person who won't tip out of principle, as opposed to level of service...You might be eating shitty(literally) pizza.

I have been called a dick on numerous occasions for not tipping mediocre or sub-par service.

Explain to me how that makes one a "dick" and why a few particular industries think they're fucking special and deserve extra cash on top of what the asking price is? And why these particular vocations are so inherently different from every single other one.

Now I can't say 100% how every business works the pay schedule out, but in my experience way back when as a waiter;
My employer payed me far less than is ethical to pay someone for a job, expecting me to make the other part up through tips. So tips aren't really the icing on the cake, it's the other half of the cake.
I only speak from one personal experience and don't know if this goes across the board for all tip producing jobs, but I would assume so.

Maybe in CA and NY it's different as well.

Which is exactly my point. Why should the community at large subsidise the wage costs of small business? Business should be paying their staff adequate minimum wages to begin with.

I'm 100% with you on that one, but with the system being the way it is, the only person you're hurting if you don't give a tip is the small fry.

It sucks, but unless you want to do some lobbying, there's not much you can do to the actual business. Besides boycotting the whole thing I suppose.
