Yes, that's what I meant by mainstream - in the sense of those who are in the scene. Perhaps it was a bit misleading.

Or just too much time with Sketchy Steve before every Mills show you've been to?

I do know better Rob,i was listening to him on 96.3 as The Wizard when you were still shitting in your diapers.

Terrific. So you've been listening to poorly mixed music a long time then?

Mills is awful. His "insane style" is poorly programmed, badly mixed, Detroit techno. Hooray for you if you like it, but I don't particularly care to hear a horse running through the club every 5 to 10 minutes.

He's really, really bad. Really. Bad.

it was pretty damn good.

sorry you had a bad time..

I guess I can get that you enjoyed it, but it isn't as if I had seen him once and instantly wrote him off based on a single experience.

Which is, I guess, the only reason I'm utterly shocked to see people champion him as some amazing talent, because I didn't think such divergent views possible.

I can't even understand even if you're fucking out of your mind on drugs
I was out of my mind on drugs when I saw him, and I've never ever been brought down quicker in my life
trainwreck, trainwreck, trainwreck, the bells, trainwreck, trainwreck, trainwreck, trainwreck
amazing producer, the shittest DJ I've ever heard

people must remember that he mixes on 3 and 4 decks most of the time and unlike certain djs, he doesn't have 8 minutes to sit there and match. granted he could slow down a little, but to say he has never had a good mix is ridiculous and shows that you have hardly ever listened to him. i mean think of all the times you have heard trance djs clang. i couldn't imagine what they would sound like playing songs that are 3 minutes long.

I couldn't possibly care less about any of that. He could play on a million decks at once and if it sounds like shit, what is the point?

+1

Or get a laptop if you want to play 6 tracks at the same time already...

he doesn't need to hide behind technology

how many mixes have yo uheard of his honestly? i mean we have people in this thread quoting other forum nerds about how he mixes. i have a feeling many haven't even listened more than a few times, if at all.

I have seen him live three times and have attempted to listen to several "must listen" Mills live sets.

They have all ranged from absolutely unbearable to slightly less tolerable than a colonic.

Thats the most absurd defense of shit mixing I've ever seen.

Yup, barely a listen.

Either way, anyone who has been going at it as long as Mills has should have a bit of an idea what they're on about by now.

no it's not. if you've only heard a fractional amount of mixes then how can you judge him? that would be like looking at a stock's performance over the last 6 days and saying it sucks when it's been up the whole year. in other words, not accurate.

Yeah, my experience is obviously the only bad one that anyone has ever had with Mills - so I see where you're coming from.

Man, I was way off.

in this thread, the amount of people who say they've heard good sets outnumber those who have said they have heard all bad ones so i would say you ARE way off.

So basically what you're saying is that because I've only seen him three times and heard a handful of sets I haven't heard anywhere near enough Jeff Mills to make an informed decision, and further that this very thread (and the number of pro-mills participants) constitutes plenty of evidence that my view on Mills is way off?

The bits of irony this place churns up are just delightful.

put your hands up for the detroit, i posted in this thread.

who said plenty of evidence? it's just further evidence. plenty of evidence would be over at discogs or really any other forum on the internet or from people who actually listen to techno. i mean your argument as of now isn't even holding up on a trance forum where people's idea of mixing is waiting for the last 1:30 of a song. LOL

Posted by elFreak on Apr-03-2008 05:41:

dude you like him and some people don't...its ok he doesn't care so you shouldn't either.

now be a man and listen to juan atkins instead

My argument doesn't need to hold water with anyone but me because it isn't an argument at all, it's an opinion - and no amount of your incessant and mildly coherent babbling is going to change it.

I trust my ears - and I certainly don't trust the majority of those who post here, so it should come as no surprise that it falls to you to convince me, not the other way around, and further that you aren't very likely to do so anytime soon.
