It's still called espresso (caffe) by everyone that uses it, including Italians. It's also easier to use, costs a crap load less than a high pressure machine and if you want an espresso, as the OP stated in his title, is the best way to go. If you want a cappuccino, which would then require steamed milk, then yes, you need something else. But then he should have said he was looking to make cappuccinos, not espressos. I'm sorry that the 75 year old Bialetti doesn't live up to your culinary Nazi standards, but for home made espresso, this device works fine for millions. |

| Originally posted by NeoPhono That's fine. I do prefer espresso from a machine, but I have yet to find a place in the US that doesn't burn the shit out of it and I'm not about to drop a couple G's (at this point in my life) for a real espresso machine. Besides, there's something to be said for the ease and simplicity of making stovetop espresso...it's something I grew up around, so I'm sure that's part of it. I'm just saying for the average guy who wants espresso (albeit stovetop espresso), the stovetop method is a reasonable alternative to very expensive machines or Starbuck's "espresso," which I feel is even farther away from true espresso than what the stovetop variety is. I'd rather have stovetop espresso made with good coffee (Kimbo FTW), over the burnt stuff you find in the US. |
That's going to probably be my first home machine (cup warmer is a must), but med school debt means I'll happily "settle" for my Bialetti...for now.

get a part time job at Starbucks, then borrow one of their nice coffee makers and espresso machines from the back, and then forget to return it as u quit the next day.
