| Originally posted by RebeL9 this is even worse than I expected. out of these samples, not a single decent tune. the vocals are all horrible. is it really that difficult to find a decent vocalist? seriously, the vocals in track 7 What was Armin thinking? |
those vocals are terrible. But then again I wasn't expecting anything else but crap.

"Unforgiveable" and "Rain" are ok on their own, semi-cheesey vocals but catchy non-the-less... I think they could be remixed and be a lot better. One thing about "Rain" though, what the hell is with the euro dance epic synth? I swear that sounded like old Green Court or DJ Sammy type synth work.
For me, "In And Out Of Love" was the best vocal for me on the album... yes once again it's cheese, but the melody is nice, the breakbeat (cheesey but...) works, it's effective enough.
I prefered his last album if I had to choose, but oh well. I didn't think his last album was horrid, def mainstreamed but not horrid if you view it as a more mainstream release. This one is sub-par at best no matter which perspective you use to view it.
track 3 actually sounds pretty good, minus the vocals. same with track 4, although i didn't hear any vocals in that one. is track 5 the one with audrey gallagher? pretty awful. track 6 actually sounds pretty good too, the vocals included. i love how he blasts dj sammy in that one vid, but track 7 sounds pretty similar to 'heaven' at least.
onto the next vid... track 8 is pretty lame, it sounds dated and like it should be on a ministry of sound compilation album from 2001/2002, it seriously does. the bassline is alright, if not predictable. track 9 is just bad, doesn't even feel like music. feels like noise with a voice on top of it. track 10, oh god, jennifer rene. no thanks.
in conclusion, i guess i like 3, 4 and 6, based on these samples alone. judging from the tracklist on the other thread, i guess those are 'unforgivable', 'face to face', and 'in & out of love'. the rest are pretty much what i was expecting (read: shit), but i'm surprised i actually do like 3 of them.
OMG, this is euro-dance frenzy...i mean seriously...i doubt that anyone calls this "trance"...
Track-1 is soap-opera opening theme, quite laughable if one thinks the context..
Track-2 sounds like an 80s cheesy full-on power-ballad without the 80s awesomeness. Instead we get terrible euro-dance/pseudo-saw-trance production. Thanks but i'll prefer ultravox or tears for fears.
Track-3: Cliche female vocals and seriosuly...how MANY TIMES have you listened to this bloody simple ascending chord progression? I guess that it first appeared in 1994 or smthg. "Unforgivable" indeed!
Track-4: Oh boy was i wrong...did i mention a "cliche ascending chord progression" for the previous track? How wrong was i! This IS indeed the epitome of "standard-trancelead-by-numbers-accompanied-by-standard-FLStudio-Preset"
This is the kind of track that you make by putting some random ascending notes in FL, concluding that "it sounds good enough considering the newb that iam"
Track-5: This is so horrid...supra-cheesy almost helium female vocals with modern farty-electro bass, conjuring nightmarish images of the "Anthem"... How bad can it get...i mean seriously...
This is NOT about trance. I thing that we established that this has nothing to do with trance or whatsoever. This is JUST BAD POP music. I mean its not even good as a kind of pop... Depeche Mode make "pop" as well and i can assure that it has nothing to do with this garbage!
Track-6: "yourr eyeess aree hauuntiiinggg meeee baaabbyyy faalllingg in loooveee" -type of pop music enough said.
Track-7: "Wheenn everyythingg is lossttt prrromiisee meee thaatt youu will stayyy withh meee babbyyyy neveerr say neeeverrr"-type of pop music nough said.
(Well, with some random generic techy chords thrown in because deep techy chords are cool again and Armin actually listens to Terry Lee Brown Jr. a lot lately).
Track-8: "Raaiinnn in thee raaainnn" ccompanied by the cool 2002 MASSIVE RANK-1 SUPER-SAW NASTY RIFF! Yeeeaahh! Its the primary Dutch super-saw sound, you all know what i mean...the melody ofcourse sounds like it is taken from that period. the only track i like its great fun! Dj Tatana 4 Life!)
Track-9: Female vocals speaking random stuff which i don't care embedded within a deep/techy production because Armin likes to listen to Terry Lee Brown Jr. lately and techy stuff are cool again.
Track-10: interesting synth-work BUT accompanied with female vocals of random quality that go like this: "ii giiveee youu myy heaartt i'mm finee withouttt youuu nowwww babyy" nough said.
Track-11: Oh yes the end-of-the-night anthem! This is the only track that sounds like proper "epic/anthemic" trance. Drawback? The random, generic lead-line which i thing i've heard at LEAST a trillion times before. So, not good.
I have to say that these statements were based in the Youtube samples.I have the impression though that the full tracks wont have anything extra. I think that it is pretty clear (from the samples) that this is a "synth-pop" album, and what terrible synth-pop it is (i would rather say "euro-dance"or "euro-pop"). Its kinda bad actually thinking that Armin had the potential to do great stuff. Considering past tracks like "Blue Fear" and "Clear Blue Moon" one would thing that Armin could at least be a great producer of epic/anthem trance. Instead for that he opted for the high life of a pop-star. I wander if this kind of euro-dance music will sell though. Such an album in the era of Ian Van Dahl would indeed sell, but i wander who is going to buy this music in our times.
2/10.
ew, talk about lack of originality..
just listened
it's soulless radio teletubby trance. i seriously think that his marketing team is targeting the 13-17 market and trying to hook them while they are young in an attempt to sow the club market so he can still be reaping it in 5 years when they are old enough to go to his clusterfucks
and what's worse, at least half of the tracks are ripoffs of ian van dahl tracks. #8 - blatantly rips off superstring (rank 1 remix)
seriously disgusting
the only place it belongs is the ellen degeneres show
it makes me want to club baby seals and ponies
will the delusion finally disappear after this? it's so blatantly terrible. I don't understand how anyone could continue to use the word 'trance' in regards to his music.
fuck i hate this
i just fucking hate this so much
edit:
fuck
i've got more originality in my foreskin

I think it is the duty of everyone who has ever enjoyed trance music to send Armin Van Buuren a message decrying this atrocious product, or to post a message on his message board doing so.
Tell him just to stop.

one of those pieces of cheese rips off blue fear, not sure which as i was skipping around because i couldn't listen consistently for more than a ocuple of seconds
Heh, he ripped off one of his own tracks?
Wowsers! Talk about dripping with Schmaltz. Did Barry Manillow and Celeine Dion write some of these songs or something?
And it's a bit of a letdown that in the midst of all these vocals there weren't any Kelly Clarkson records
I mean, it clearly sounds like he's going after the American Idol crowd with this one
He should have had Rick Astley do vocals for one of the tracks.

Imagine! One DJ, loads of uninspiring vocals, one night only at some club in Utrecht... Now imagine that DJ sharing the stage with none other then Basshunter and Lord of Bass

It sounded like there would be potential till the 1:30 mark, then my head exploded. WTF is this shit?!
Armin fans remind me of Kobe Bryant fans, they are such clouded fanboys and girls that even if Armin made a great album, they are just too annoying to deal with so you just want to see failure.

im a little bit disappointed...
to me it seems like the album never takes off to a more uplifting trancey level like his shows or gig do..
i also think that audrey callagher sounds so extremely awful compared to the wonderful voices of sharon and jacqueline from dutch bands within temptation and krezip... the contrast is just too big. Like some1 else said before it sounds like some1 on helium.
I think some tracks have remix potential, but i wonder why all the vocal tracks are so slow and pop/prog trance like instead of some good a&b uplifting style vocal trance.
The last track is very good, that one works
other tracks that sound pretty good as well are: rain, in and out of love , fine without you and that track with jaren.
Not good at all.
Even without vocals they would still be terrible.
Those songs are abominations.
The album will probably sell a million copies.
Go Armin.
I didn't think it was that bad.
