No, actually, because driving at 120 when the traffic is moving at 120 is safe and won't get you pulled over. I've been cruising at 120 several times with a police car right behind me and not gotten any trouble about it. Once you hit 130 it's very likely you'll get nabbed.

Yes, it's true that cops hide, obviously, but also consider that some animal might jump out from the same spot; if you're driving too fast to see them before you get in their visual range (they can't pull you over unless they actually see you speeding) then you're driving too fast, period.

Also, be careful about slamming the brakes when you see a cruiser. If anyone is behind you, you could get a much worse ticket for careless driving or obstructing traffic. Or, if it's actually the cop who's behind you, they're going to be seriously pissed off.

driving 1 km over the limit is speeding.

I have known of people being pulled over (just recently) for doing "8 over". You are never safe a) when speeding as you are still violating and b) with a cop right on you. you can assume that he is checking your plates, past violations, sticker, vehicle history and then c) they can just pull you over for a "random" check.

The closer a cop is to you the more likely he will pull you over.

I never mentioned anything about slamming on brakes,it is obvious and also because I am far more likely to slowly down shift to avoid the blatant decrease in speed. Having said that the point was not mine so I dont know why you added that to your response.

And slamming on your brakes can be a two fold ticket, at the end of the day if fought well in court, while you may get a careless driving ticket you can very easily lay the claim of "following closely" which is not a fault of your own; rather on the person who is less than roughly 2 car lengths. Braking for the purposes of slowly down is not illegal, if someone happens to be on your ass at the time then an arguement can be made either way, for determining fault.

I was the one saying that about braking.

I obviously wouldn't slam the brakes with people behind me. But usually at the speed I drive, people clear the lane.

You should have posted this in the COR, where there are users from all over. There was a thread there about this a few months ago, search it up.

Nope sorry, you're wrong Del. It does mean that.

Lowering the speed limit to ridiculous levels and then nailing everyone has become a cottage industry for most municpalities these days. Im all for any way that people can fight back against this.

Of course if you are doing 160 on the highway its a different story. But ive seen country thoroughfares recently lowered to 60 and even 50 when there is hardly a building or cross street in sight. And surprise surprise, there's cops almost daily!

Purely speed trapping cash grabbing!

no it doesnt. driving like an asshole is TOTALLY different than driving fast. an asshole driver is one that weaves through traffic, tailgates, erratic driving, etc.

it all depends on your definition of an asshole driver.....anyone who is driving faster then the flow of traffic is an asshole driver in my opinion.

so if everyone is going 120km/h with the left lane empty and some guy takes that lane going 140... hes an asshole? hes not doing anything to do like flashing high beams to get you to move out of the way. he is using an empty lane to his advantage.

I'm sorry but you're wrong. It's definitely driving like an asshole. Yep, sure is.

Radar detectors do work, but Ontario has some of the best Radar detector detectors they will detect most if not all of the ones that claim they can't be detected and the detector will be taken away, and you'll be fined. Also Ontario is switching on to Laser guns now so a laser jammer would be better.

... and my worst peeve... St-John's side road just east of Yonge.... perfect formula for yanking cash from your ass;

1. Lower speed limit to 50 to reduce cars running over ducks and crossing animals.

2. Build an overpass and double-widen the road to save animals and speed up traffic.

3. Keep it at the crawling 50 limit.

4. Pay off lawyer's office to not defend clients and allow to park in his f'ing hidden driveway for the radar trap.

5. Profit.

Like I said its an individuals perspective of what an asshole driver is. If I think someone who talks on a cell phone while driving is an asshole driver then they are an asshole driver.

Or how about widening wellington street to 4 lanes and reducing the limit from 70 to 50 at the same time? Or now they just widened bathurst from 2 lanes (80 km/h) to 4 lanes (60 km/h).

They make the road SAFER to drive on and then lower the speed limit. Pure corruption as far as im concerned.
