It's $40-45 cover and that includes bottle service and all you can drink at some clubs.

They have Hooters, Chris Ruth's Steakhouse, Hard Rock Cafe etc. and they all run for the same prices like in Toronto. Booze is really cheap outside the resort, if you wanted to buy some. I'd say Varadero is cheaper as cover is 10 bucks and drinks are like 2 cuc's, but the at the same time if you're a hardcore drinker than all the clubs in Cancun might work better being all you can drink. It certainly reduces alot of the wait time.

I'd say the clubs overall are better than Varadero's..much bigger and nicer looking.

when I said Riu Cancun's beach sucked, thats because its full of rocks and the sandy party is really lacking, its a tiny beach. You can get your feet injured inside the water because there's some places where the ocean floor is full of holes. Plus its dirty, seen plenty of glass pieces coming from the ocean If you're going to Riu Cancun, stick to the pools!

The beach at Varadero was unbeatable... Cancun isn't even close to it. Went to Blau Varadero in 2007, food isn't as good as in Cancun, but everything else is better (minus the nightlife).

would you recommend the pre-paid club-pass? how expensive is a regular night out...generally speaking?

Cancun is really expensive, its more expensive than in Canada for almost everything tourist related. Bus boys expect to be tipped alot of money or you can forget your "all you can drink" drinks.

I agree that the beach overall generallly is better in Cuba. The beach in Varadero was a lot wider and longer, with clearer water and whiter sand. Not to put Cancun's beach down at the Riu Cancun, but it's not as good. The Riu on the far left side is a bit rocky but not on the far right...but the far left area is more "hype" as it's nearer to the main infinity pool. There's some coral there too so if it's any consolotion you can see little fishes swimming around.

Overall, Cancun kills Cuba. I found too many Cubans trying to hustle you for everything. Cancun does it as well off the resort. they try selling you anything and forthright about it but they at least HAVE what you want. ANd you can get the excursions cheaper off the resort too. Varadero DOES have the better beach though, but the Cancun clubs are newer and sleeker and bigger, and if you stay at the Riu Cancun, everything is nearby.

I don't agree with the resort staff expecting tips. It only happened to me on one occaision when a security guard wanted money. But otherwise no one asked for any tips. The staff was really great and didn't expect anything. Maybe it had to do with the resort you stayed at...

also, in terms of attractions, aside from the clubs and the parties, what would you guys recommend? the ruins sounds great! Are there any worthwhile rainforests to check out? pretty much: what are the absolute MUST things we should do/see while we're in Cancun?

thanks guys

You HAVE TO go to Excaret...

It's a nature park kinda place...

Has a great lazy river and tons of other stuff...

And the evening show is amazing...

Chichen Itza...yah it's a really long day but an incredible place and how often can you see one of the wonders of the world...

also, someone mentioned the passes that adnan media offers - I did a quick read @ http://www.adnanmedia.com/index-3.html but has anyone purchased this pass before? Props/cons?

merci

The big clubs there charge a big admission price but drinks are free...

It can cost anywhere from 40-100 to get in...

Adnan's passes get you 7 admissions to the package clubs(all the big ones) and it's 200 cnd...

And you get bypass and all...

Great deal...

I might have been unclear, I wasn't writing about the bus boys at the RIU hotels (these guys never ask for a penny), but at the fuckfaces at the clubs.

The RIU geo told us to give the busboy at the club 5$ for the night, and it would be more than enough. We did that, after the second drink the guy start asking for money again..."give me 20$ and I'll give you a good service the whole night" yeah sure Its frigging 1$ tip a drink, I'm not gonna drink 20 drinks in one night

If you're into snorkeling but hate the waves in the ocean, you have to hit Xelha! It cost like 70$ for the day and it rocks!

Its a big lagoon, and protected by the ocean waves, you have all the time in the world to check all the fishies! A stingray swam just underneath me, what a rush

Just remember that Xelha is about an hour from Cancun, so it's a whole day adventure....but yeah it's worth it.

The thing that sucks now, about exploring ruins, is that you are no longer allowed to climb and explore. In the mid-eighties I climbed a couple of pyramids, but sooo many people were getting hurt and chipping off pieces of the altars and reliefs, that now you can only wander within the rope lines, but that is happening in Egypt as well.

...and vinegar works JUST as well as piss, for jellyfish stings

Posted by malek on Apr-22-2008 02:14:

Xelha is a 12 hour thing, wake up at 7am, come back at around 7pm.

But its totally worth it, honest to Price.

Alright, here is my input. Since people were nice enough to give me input I will give you my input.

You will spend more than you think! I spent $1600 for the whole trip! haha... but then again I did a lot of stuff and bought shit load of stuff.

If you want a good party time, stay at OASIS Cancun, the beach is also very nice! But if you want a quiet time stay at Riu Cancun.

I suggest OASIS Cancun because you get the good side of the ocean, with better waves. The waves are awesome, you will love it!

I just went to cancun in February and let me tell you it was AMAZING!

Here are some thigs you should always keep in mind:

1. Tip your bartender the first night you get there. Tip him 20 bucks and your set for the week! He will make you whatever you want, whenever, even if there is a line-up of people. We tipped our bartender an he made us the best drinks ever! Also he served us first no matter what. Afterall we did go on a busy time.

2. If you go to the market, always remember, BARGAIN, BARGAIN, BARGAIN! You can get stuff for cheap, but bargain it down very very low because they try to sell you stuff in the market for the same price you can get it at the mall, unless you bargain.

3. ALWAYS TAKE THE BUS!!! Don't take the cabs! Bus service is cheap, 60 cents and runs every 2-3 minutes and at night every 15 minutes.

4. Make sure you get ADNAN's pass definetly worth it! We didn't get it because we didn't think we would go out all the time, but we ended up going out EVERY NIGHT! haha MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OUT NECTAR!!!!

5. If I were you I would not spend ANY MONEY on the theme parks and any of that crap expecially Excaret!! Just go and do things on your own, it will be much cheaper and more fun! BUT, if you decide you want to make sure you purchase it outside of the hotel, DO NOT get it from your rep at the hotel!

6. MAKE SURE you visit ISLA Mujares, go for the whole day, or even twice during your trip! It's an island 45 ferry ride from main strip. You can take a ferry for 15 bucks return trip. I suggest you go here because the beaches are AMAZING! You can also rent a scooter for the day and go from one end of the island to the other. I highly recommend this! You can see the ruins at the other end of the island. Also when you get off the ferry you will be approached by people trying to get you to go see the Coral Reefs. You can do this for cheap! We paid 20 bucks a person! 2 Hours, and we got to see sooo many different types of fish, I even put a starfish in my pants and brought it back to Canada hahahahha.

7. As nice as Chichen Itza is and it is one of the wonders. I didn't have time to go see it. Its a 3 hours drive and you can't even climb up the damn thing anymore because some idiot fell down... so its totally up to you.

Anyways, if you want anymore tips and suggestions just ask and I would be more than happy to answer.

BEST CLUBS TO VISIT:
NECTAR!! (Afterhours)
Daddy O's
The City!!!
The Beach Club (Make sure you jump in the pool and cause a scene when you are drunk haha, I have a video of this)
Daddy Rocks

These were some of my favorites...

Here are some pics from my trip:

Remember what I said about tipping! (Jose, on the right took us to a bunch of sketchy Mexican clubs that played LOTS of TRANCE!! But it was the best time haha)

Drink lots of Coconuts!! But try not to fall...

Definetly visit the beach & ISLA MUJARES!!

Don't forget to visit the sea turtles on ISLA MUJARES!

Drink lots!!

and Remember to VOTE for VICTOR!!

Anyways, I totally turned this into a review of my trip lol... Work is boring today haha. I can't wait to go back to Cancun!!

and whatever you do, don't piss on the street!! I pissed all over myself when a guy yelled POLICE, when he was some security guard joking around, not cool!

Posted by Ozmozis on Apr-22-2008 20:58:

Oh yeah forgot to add, you should call and see if they have any rooms available. I hear its a great resort!

Posted by dEsidEL on Apr-22-2008 22:12:

just avoid the ones where ginos have been slain recently.. and be careful!

to put things into perspective, Oasis is the loudest resort, its where 16 years old flash their fake D cups on the beach, and kids run drunk 24/7 in the hotel as if they never experienced alcohol in their life.

I don't know how old you are, for some its what they want, for most, if you're older, it becomes annoying after a few hours.

Riu Cancun, is still friggin loud by any standards, doesn't beat Oasis, but still its not your grandmas resort. Riu Caribe is just a tad tamer, but Cancun overall is very loud and has plenty of drunk teens running around unless you're going to an expensive resort like LeBlanc or Riu Palace...

P.S.: Any self respecting individual should be hitting the Grand Oasis instead of the oasis...

Posted by evil_cookie on Apr-23-2008 07:27:

lol thanks for the heads up malek - riu it is!

I'm 40, and drunk teens are always a great source of entertainment
I DON'T want quiet on my vacations, the louder/drunker the better!

Another Canadian Tourist Killed In Mexico
Sunday May 18, 2008
The Canadian Press

Police say a Canadian tourist was shot and killed late Thursday inside his hotel room in the Mexican resort city of Cabo San Lucas.

State police commander Enrique Wuilar says a lone gunman shot 29-year-old Bouabal Bounthavorn three times in his hotel room. Bounthavorn's girlfriend, 24-year-old Masha Heikali, was shot in one foot.

Wuilar says no one has been arrested in the killing and investigators have no leads.

Foreign Affairs in Ottawa has confirmed a Canadian was killed.A department official said consular assistance was being provided to the family and consular officials were in contact with authorities investigating the death. But foreign affairs said it couldn't provide further details, citing the Privacy Act.

There has been a string of violent incidents involving Canadians in Mexico since 2007.

Domenic and Nancy Ianiero of Woodbridge Ont, were found with their throats slit in February, 2006 at a resort near Playa del Carmen, Mexico. No arrests were ever made.

In January, 2007, Adam DePrisco, 19, also of Woodbridge, was killed outside an Acapulco nightclub. A Mexican doctor blamed the teen's death on a hit-and-run driver, but his family and friends believed he was beaten to death.

In May, 2007, Jeff Toews of Grande Prairie, Alta, died from injuries after he visited a nightclub in Cancun. Mexican authorities concluded he fell from the second floor of his hotel, but at the time Toews' family said his head and back injuries came from a severe beating.
