PS, i did the sidestep thing from the original august dates from shv to lax...and the cheapest ticket was with "cheaptickets.com" hahahaha, not the airline directly

Seriously, on your munich trip, what year was it?

Oh and why come to LA? lol not that bas doesn't want to make out with you.

it was in 2003. i just did a quickie orbitz/united search for the same time frame. they're both expensive now (over $1k) but orbitz was still cheaper by nearly $100-200

i've never been to LA...only san diego....figured if i got free airfare, i might as well go somewhere i've never been.

miami is also another option (was not during WMC, unfortunately)

What are you going to LA for?

i'll join the club i guess because i hope to go back and forth a bit in the future. my sister lives in la and she's getting married in june so i'm going for like 9 days...plus one of our best friends lives there too.

Yeah see dude, 2002-2003 were 2 years you could go almost anywhere in the world during the summer for $600-800USD. The winter was even cheaper. Paris for $300!!!!!! Seriously! fucking ridiculously low.

And yeah I totally agree with going to places you have never been.

Miami, Minneapolis, and a few other places I can't remember

Posted by lcid on Apr-30-2008 01:53:

i just booked a flight 2 nights ago to visit my mom in NY for her birthday in June; Thurs morn - Mon morn, and it only cost me $200, whereas it would have cost me $455 if i flew back on Sunday night. no difference to me since i land back home at 9:30am and can just go to work an hour or two later than normal.

flying is fun. paying for it isn't.

Just give them time. They will be adding more destinations as ridership increases. They are a force to be reckoned with. Much better than Southwest, yet similar fare prices.

Love Poundin' Sensation

yeah my boyfriend rode virgin early this month and he doesn't shut up how great it was.

except the in-flight chat room wasn't working yet. that should be fun once it does work.

hopefully they get it to Miami soon. Till then Jet blue ftw.

The amenities that Virgin America offers will definitely be the thing to set them apart. I flew Virgin Atlantic to London, they had a full service bar on the 2nd floor

Posted by Lebezniatnikov on Apr-30-2008 01:58:

Orbitz doesn't carry most of the cheapest airlines.

Key things to flying cheaper. Do not, unless necessary, fly friday after 3pm through sunday. Try to book to leave and come back on Tues, Wed, or Thurs. Wed and Thurs optimum. Also, if you don't mind it, fly on the DAY OF holidays, as these days are least in demand.

nwa.com

i do the whole search when i'm looking for tickets - kayak, sidestep, airline websites, etc... usually i just end up booking straight from the airline unless expedia or orbitz or cheaptickets has an insanely unreal deal.

shitty thing is that i have a 50 euro credit for KLM/Northwest that i wasn't able to use because the flight had to be 150 euro or more (roughly $233) - so i didn't qualify and using the credit on more expensive flights wasn't going to save me any money compared to just booking a cheaper flight.

and i've got a credit for Midwest as well. looks like i'll be doing lots of traveling this year.

Yeah, I've got like $200 on Sun Country that expires at the end of this year, and I don't know when I'm going to squeeze a flight in.

yeah, obviously... but who chooses to book their vacation around such ridiculous dates.

i usually try to do Thurs - Sun/Mon if i can. long weekend FTW.

or when i went to Atlanta for my birthday last year, i flew back on Saturday so it was only around $130.

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Apr-30-2008 02:04:

yeah i usually like to fly thursday after work so i only get 1 day off...... till sunday night.

both get me to my destinations at midnight but that's when the party starts.

i flew from new orleans to chicago on thanksgiving day. non-stop round trip was $198 on orbitz.

parking was a biatch tho, cause everyone left the day before and so the parking lots were full.

totally depends on airports tho. i flew out out of new orleans which was 90 miles away whereas gulfport was only 10 miles away but the airfare out of that airport was literally 2x as much. was rediculous.

LOL I planned my whole toronto trip around that!!!! I left on Thursday and came back on Wed!

As soon as I have a job again, I am paying off my credit card and getting a flight to YYZ (Toronto) and YUL (MTL).

if you don't mind flying early, they are often cheaper at 530-700am flights too. almost everytime i fly i try to leave as early as possible...much cheaper than the 9am-3pm time frame.

edit,

airports tend to be less busy before 7-9am(and beyond) as well.

i like how most places have a "flexible date" thing where you can scan +/- 1-3 days before your original date...lets you see cheaper stuff

haha yeah. My sister and her fiancee are going to Ukraine for 3 weeks for their honeymoon. Flying out of SAN (San Diego) is literally $1000 more. $1200 or so from LAX to Moscow, 2400 SAN to Moscow. And this is the WINTER!!!!!!!!

Totally. I love that they do that. Virgin America actually always shows 3days before and 3days after.
