My laptop's worth as much as a new battery right now, heh. I wish I could take it out, but conveniently the laptop wobbles (it's one of the support stands) without it. It would weigh nothing without it, grrr.

Of course the battery closes the circuit. Kind of hard for any circuit to be closed or even exist at all without a voltage source.

The question is, how do some manufacturers manage to screw up the charging system so badly that the line voltage won't also complete the circuit? Normally you charge a battery by applying a voltage across its terminals, not by wiring in series with it. It's actually more difficult to manufacture a device that won't work without the battery, unless it's a total bonehead move like not drawing enough current from the AC source. Which makes perfect sense in the context of a company like Acer because they will skimp on the regulators/transformers in order to save a few cents.

This thread and people's responses about their different respective brands of computers made me curious: does anyone here have an experience with a Lenovo laptop? Or with their services?
