In terms of the Flipside thing... the reviewer obviously genuinely hated the CD; hes an indie hipster, obviously he wouldnt be jealous of some house music producers/DJs/MCs

The same way I would be able to genuinely hate an indie rock CD.... its not because I am jealous of them, I just actually hate the music

That said, obviously someone like me would be in no place to review an indie rock CD!
Stupid NOW!

BTW this probably should have gone in the other thread...

There are only 2 reasons why people hate

1. they're jealous/envious/insecure etc
2. they're retaliating to someone else's hate directed at them

EDIT: For the purpose of the Flipside thread, that is just journalism, you can't include that in my observation above.

LOL, do you really believe that?

See this is what I mean. Why are people so seemingly afraid of hate? Why are people only willing to embrace "good" feelings? We're not robots, you know.

I mean, I'm not saying one should make it their life's goal to hate on everybody and everything...but one can't deny that it's a perfectly natural and sometimes healthy way to feel. That is, unless you're a carrot.

No but think about it. I am talking proper hate - not 'that girls shirt is hideous', her shirt probably is. In fact, that hate statement is just retaliating to her wearing a fucking awful shirt.

As I edited, the Flipside thread doesn't count on that either - that journalist wrote that because he knows the majority of his readers are house music dislikers and therefore is elevating his status to them by ripping it apart. It's like asking me to review a steak. I wouldn't even eat it so where's the value???

Anyway, back to your point, it is a healthy way to feel but why are you feeling that way? Perhaps we should talk examples. Every time I have hated on something (apart from awful taste) it has been with one of those 2 reasons behind it, usually number 2. I am not a jealous or envious person, I am very contented in who I am and how I look and the circle of friends I have and how much cashola I have etc.

I have also been the target of hate with absolutely no explainable reason behind it except some form of jealousy. I am very introspective and whenever anything happens, I always ask myself what I did that led to the consequence and how/if I could have been better in some way. People are vicious Jenny, you may only hate because you can but for every one of you, there are 1000 people who fit into my categories.

So, what about if I hate asparagus? Am I jealous of it?

If you had a shirt with an asparagus spear on it, I would hate it

No no...you're right and I agree with that. But those aren't the only reasons people hate (though I would agree they are the majority). Sometimes people just plain hate!

I agree with this completely.
When I hate asparagus, it's a simple dislike and no one questions it.
When I hate jennypie, all of a sudden I'm jealous of her. I mean, can't a girl just hate another girl?!

Posted by Silky Johnson on May-22-2008 12:56:

Jealous whore!

True. I guess this is how I would split it up;

Hating on an object or event is an opinion and you can hate hate hate on that shit without any jealousy or retaliation required (but it does still fall into those categories sometimes).

Hating on a person ALWAYS falls into those categories, IMO either directly or indirectly.

I'm sorry, what? I couldn't hear you over the sound of all of the coke sex I'm having. It is Thursday after all.

lol. edit: to Jenny

Hahaha ^5 I got punched in the throat a bit too hard last night so I am wearing a scarf to hide the bruise. I shoved my fist up his ass in retaliation.

Pure jokes, before you all start

P.S. Rach, I don't agree. I think hate towards a person/people can exist without jealousy/envy, and free of it being in retaliation (though, again, I would agree that those reasons are the majority).

Give me an example... I want to see if I can still make it fit in my two reasons. Remember retaliation can be very broad in its meaning...

Posted by Silky Johnson on May-22-2008 13:19:

Hm...lol that's tough. I dunno...I'm just thinking along the lines of clashing personalities and the fact that no, we CAN'T all get along. Speaking personally, I sure as hell don't like everybody I meet - but perhaps hate is too strong a word to use in that instance.

I dunno! You've stumped me, hate denier! Lololol.

Posted by Silky Johnson on May-22-2008 13:22:

Oh! Stupidity! I fucking hate stupid people...and that sure as hell isn't because of jealousy/envy, or some form of retaliation.

I guess you could turn that around and say it's intolerance...but fuck that, it's hate!

Personality clashes - I would class that as retaliation. I don't know I clash with someone until they say something to PISS ME OFF!

I HATE stupidity too - HATE HATE HATE. But I still class that as retaliation. I hate stupid people in retaliation to their ignorance.

I think some people are just born to bang heads with certain people, you can do your best to stay civil and professional about it, but the tension is always there.

I think I'm a laid back, approachable, friendly guy but I have met people and within seconds without even saying much or anything at all you can feel this tension. In that case I just keep on walking and forget about it, why TRY to win someones friendship.

Back on topic, I hate stupid people too.
