My first EDM party was Resolution 07 in Montreal with Tiesto. I was 18 and I went with Sean and my friend Mark. They suggested we go for New Years right before Christmas and I finally agreed. I had never heard of Tiesto other than what Sean had said about him and I wasn't really excited at all.. I almost cancelled and stayed at Unity2 [a club in montreal] instead but of course Sean changed my mind. The party was mind blowing.. I was so drunk I don't remember much at all.. but I know we stayed until 10am, we danced our asses off, met some crazy fun people and I was dead for the next few days haha

My first guv party was Sharam a month or two after Resolution. It was the only time I got into guv with my fake id, lol at me being 12. I remember walking into main room and my jaw dropped. Before guv the only clubs we went to were little gay bars that played top 40 remixes .. nothing at all like guv. it was an amazing night haha

and Dan.. isnt it crazy what Rob can make you do? Haha I owe a lot of amazing times to that boy .. make him join TA hes freakin hilarious

first edm event period was 'activate xmas party' in december 2006, with jelo and sydney... i remember thinking "shit i wanted to go up to TO for trance, but this might be ok, ferry corsten spins /some/ electro so these djs might be cool.." haha.. i went with intentions to see what the scene was all about but i ended up being a drunk fuckin disaster.. just ask owen m

then in feb 2007 went to guv for the first time when above and beyond was there, with 1 buddy i barely convinced to come out... and the rest was history as they say

I think when Daft Punk was at the International Centre by the airport they did about 19,000 back in 98 or 99.

And if anyone went to any parties on the CNE grounds, then you know what real parties were like back in the day.
Also parties at the Masonic Temple, now MTV Canada HQ. Those were awesome also!
And let's not forget the Ontario Science Centre. Man, those were the days!

I went to my first party in April 2002 - Chemical Bros. & Paul Oakenfold @ The Hershey's Center. It was more of a concert to me at that time though as I had been listening to Chemical Brothers for years. I didn't even know who Paul Oakenfold was at that time. What a great party though. I loved it when Chemical Bros. came on, and their entire stage came down from the ceiling.

Then in November of 2002, I went to my first clubbing event - Talla 2XLC at Viva Nightclub. I remember I started posting on here in October of 2002, and really wanted to go to the party, but had no one to go with. I was only in high school, and I was the only person that I knew of that liked EDM. I posted that I had no one to go with in the roll call, and people posted that I should meet up with them when I got there. I remember going to the Coffee Time meet up and met rabbitjoker and then Diginut.

Taking that leap and going was the best decision I ever made, because I have developed some wonderful friendships with those first few friends I made.

The first night I went, I remember all the TAs going into the 19+ lounge, and being dissapointed because I couldn't get in. One of the TAs (who doesn't post here anymore) said that I resembled him, and that I should use his ID to try to get in. It worked. He later mailed me a copy of his ID, and I used it from 16-19 without even questioned once.

For the first few months of my "party career", I mainly went to Viva Nightclub (Coffee Time meetups! Anyone remember those?), and sometimes The Guv (my first time there was in December 2002 for Tiestor). I only went to trance parties, until I went to System my first time in March of 2003 to see Adam Beyer, Marco Carola and Valentino Kanzyani. That party blew me the fuck away, and I became a full on techno junkie. System was my home in my early party days. I mainly listened to techno until Steve Lawler @ System in March of 2004, and then later Danny Tenaglia @ Boa on Canada Day 2004. Remembering these parties really reminds me of how significant an experience it is when you discover a different element of partying that you like for the first time.

Here I am 6 years later! I can't believe it's been that long already.

Anyone have any pics from those days?

all i know is that there were more people then any party i have ever been to. some have come close, but none with that many. it's too bad i didn't know as much about the music then as i do now. it was a solid lineup but i had no idea who any of them were then... i also remember being so amazed and confused at the same time that we were still there when the sun came up. that was definately a first for me.

That pic was from Matt Darey, Aug. 26th 2005! Holy crap how do you remember the exact event?? haha

Those nights were friggin amazing! So many good times! We need to have some awesome times like that again!

As for danceoffs, I haven't seen one or be a part of one in sooooo long! haha. Those used to be the staple of a good night! lol! We for sure have to have a danceoff for old times, then I'll go sleep on a couch somewhere in the club because I'll be fackin dead! lol. If not the next time I see you, then a time when it's harder music, like crazy Yoji or some techy dj haha.

Also, Cam doesn't come out anymore, and is actually dating Cale's sister, and owns a house. I guess those are reasons he stays in now, I dunno lol.

Tim doesn't really come out to events like before, but he spins at the Purple Room in Kitchener every second Friday. We always go to see him spin still, and bust a move on the floor haha.

Karen lives in London now, not exactly sure what shes's up to really, but I think she's just laying low.

Mikey, no idea where that kid is or what he's doing. I remember seeing him last summer randomly in the Drink line up, while we waited to go up to Skybar on a Thursday night to see Ferry Corsten spin lol. I haven't seen him since then though, but he still has a sweater of mine from the winter cottage party! I want it back! haha

System was so friggin amazing. I loved that place, and it was my favorite club by far. I miss it.

do you remember earlier that night when you said "imagine if that box of fireworks fell over?" and the madness that followed that?

Haha awesome. I don't think this was the same night, but do you remember the tailgate pre-party with Mirza when we all headed into the club after about 12 layered shots?

Good times!

Oh and to write something slightly more on topic: interesting how a lot of people say that their first parties here were when somebody dragged them out or they managed to drag their friends out. I went alone to Viva for a Destiny Rave. In fact, I registered here on that exact same day (Dec 31, 2002) hoping to find a few people to meet with. Back then the regs took a couple of days for moderation though so I didn't even get my account on time.

I'd been listening to trance and D'n'B for years though, and was sick of never finding anyone in school to go with, so I stood in line for an hour and a half on New Year's Eve with my toes falling off just to experience it. It was great fun too. If I recall, that was the night when Caddy Cad started trying to MC over a trance set. I hardly even understood what was happening, but remembering it now is actually quite hilarious.

Just my opinion, but I think it was actually a good experience to bite the bullet and go out alone the very first time; a lot of people here depend entirely on the crowd and their friends to have a good time or even go out at all, and I've never been hindered by that (although of course it's still nice to have).

First EDM party for me was the last iDream party, April 17th 2003. Had a fantastic time but I couldn't believe people were staying so long lol. I was in major pain from dancing most of the night hahah! I was super happy that Armin was playing though and had a total blast!

Good memories, fun times

Who would have known the day I stepped foot into the doors of Guvy Oct 2004, I would discover a scene that has become a way of life.

Immediately I was addicted. Every weekend.

1st party: Rank 1 and Junkie XL
2nd Party: Christopher Lawrence (where I met Lars, beautiful relationsip ever since)
3rd Party: zone

I was reminiscing with Shanny today old party characters:::

1. old man with REALLY old camera who took poloroids
2. Top hat man who didn't dance, just walked around
3. Blonde transvestite... you all know who I mean
4. Dante
5.

1. I can't tell you HOW many times I saw that guy when I first started partying at Guv and Josh would NEVER believe me until I finally got a picture of him walking by.

3. One of the sketchiest moments of my life was being at an after party at the Skydome, opening the door to walk out of the bathroom and she was there! Reached out her hand and introduced herself...eek

At every party I was blown away with the characters that bounced around. Now, sketchy Mcsketches seem to fade into the background, if I can help it.

any additions?

Tiesto at The Docks 2003
Dumonde at Viva 2003

I almost failed Gym grade 11 because i had an exam on thursday at like 9am and i slept in after serious drinking and dancing at Tiesto the night before. Thank god my teacher was cool, i brought him a doctors note and he let me write it another day lol

Dumonde party was fucking amazing, i was very impressed with the sound the minute i walked in there and lazers as well lol
The highlight of the night was hearing Mauro Picotto & Riccardo Ferri - New Time, New Place. It wasn't even out yet, i downloaded the promo a few days before and fell in love with that track. This was probably the tune that made me like techno.

4:30 = sex
