the 3 guys he fought were all very much below average fighters. I don't even know who the first guy he fought was...but Tank (the 2nd guy he fought) was like 10 years past his prime. Tank had lost 8 of his last 9 fights going into the fight with Kimbo. Thompson has lost 6 of his last 8 fights going into the Kimbo fight, and had the reputation of having one of the worst chins in MMA. All his opponents were hand picked for Kimbo to get easy KOs.

so, don't read too much into his quick KOs. Kimbo is a marketing ploy, and as soon as he fights someone with any kind of skill, its lights out.

Didn't some retired cop beat him in one of those street fights? I remember watching that fight on youtube a while ago. Why isn't this guy fighting?

I've lost 15 pounds in a week before.

To lose that much in a day, you need a sweat suit and a sauna.

Keeping it off is the trick though lol. The guys who pull off extreme weight cuts before fights usually put it right back on after they weigh in, and can sometimes weigh up to 15 pounds heavier than the weight they are fighting at come fight time.

LOL, yes. That same guy did get into MMA, and got his ass kicked.

Why have they picked Kimbo to further the cause ??

I'd imagine millions of hits on his youtube videos will do it.

he was a massachusett's state trooper. Hell of a fight, it's all over youtube and break.com

the 2 guys were literally beating the piss out of each other for a good 8-10 minutes before kimbo ran out of gas.

From My very limited experience I can see He's got plenty of balls and a solid chin. He can certainly hit and withstand a beating but lacks skills on the deck. No matter how bad you think his last fight was, you have to give credit to the guy for enduring thirty elbows to the face in the second round and living to tell the tale..

Hard hitting and a solid chin for the win.

yes, you're absolutely right, new fighters should get protected. The problem is, that MMA is a very new sport. People who have been watching it for years know who the great fighters are, and know Kimbo isn't a serious heavyweight. Elite XC snatched Kimbo up, and immediately had him headlining MMA cards, and are hyping him up to be this incredible fighter.

as far as Kimbo having potential...I really don't think he has much to be honest. As far as MMA fighters go, he is very very old, and he's not really bringing in any solid tools to begin with. people see him knock guys out and they assume he is a great standup fighter. He isn't. He may have some raw power, but his stand up technique is non existent. He just puts his head downand swings for the fences. A good chin...yeah, I'll give him that. As far as we can see, he has a very solid chin.

But look at the champions in each div in the UFC and the tools they had before getting into MMA...all of these guys were in their 20's when they got into the sport too.

155 pounds - BJ Penn - Won the jiu jitsu world championships before getting into MMA.

170 Pounds - George St Pierre - Incredible world class athlete.

185 - Anderson Silva - Insane muy thai practitioner and a jiu jitsu black belt.

205 - Quinton Jackson - another incredible athlete, had wrestling
experience before getting into MMA. He was also a bit of a thug like Kimbo, but again, Quinton was like 22 when he got into MMA.

Heavyweight - Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira - was a jiu jitsu black belt before coming into MMA

Kimbo Slice - 35 year old, ex bum and youtube street fighter.

that mah dude

Agree 100% with what Zach is saying. I was actually going to respond with a similar analysis, but he said it all. nothing to add

GSP is a freak. His athletic ability kept him in every fight early in his career, even when he lost to Hughes the first time, he was very much in the fight. Now that his technique is catching up to his ability, he's gonna be damn near unstoppable.

also, according to Jason Jollins, GSP has "an amazing body"

When I seen Thompson come out in the 3rd against Slice I wouldn't have let Thompson continue (you all knew his ear was gonna go BANG!!!), on the other hand I would have stopped the fight in the 2nd when Slice was getting hammered.

If this is just a money spinning blood fest then that's cool, but if the people taking part expect the 'fight world' to take it seriously then there needs to be changes. ATM it's no more than a reality WWF type thing..

see, your analysis is correct based on the Elite XC card this weekend. Thats sort of the problem. A shitty card like Elite XC's that gets hyped up the way it did gives the rest of MMA a bad name. Kimbo vs Josh Thompson is so far from what the best MMA guys are capable of. I must have 50 MMA event dvds at home...Pride, UFC, KOTC, some others. I'll bring some of the better ones to Summer Madness so you can check out what top level MMA is like.

Saku is my fav of all time by far. He may be a shell of the fighter he once was, but he is still capable of brining out the magic.

The most amazing thing about the guy is that he fought his entire career 1-2 weight classes above his natural weight of 185. Those crazy Japanese Pride people put him in with some absolute monsters back in the day.

this is an amazing Saku highlight...I get misty-eyed watching this every time...

lol, yeah. A lot of the japanese fighters really play up the showmanship part of the sport. The Japanese people love that shit lol. Over here, if some guy made his ring walk in Mario costume, people would be like "wtf"

That vid's awesome! I love his double fisted punch right through the center of the chest when someone's on the floor. It makes me laugh watching it but that shit must hurt like hell!

haha, yeah, he called it the 'Mongolian Chop' lol.

the fight he did that in was against Royce Gracie, the guy who won all the first UFCs. Royce and Sakuraba agreed to fight a no time limit fight. It ended up going 90 full minutes until Royce's corner threw the towel in because he couldn't walk anymore after taking so many leg kicks.
