I still dont understand that bastard, 4 years after fudging an exam proof of it.

Wow, what's with that page? It starts English, then seems to turn into Latin, and then transforms into 16 Cygni-B-ese.

jesus... im still at this crap...

quiz tomorrow.

even though im still pretty confused, atleast im getting somewhere though, lets just hope i can pass.

I am enjoying my juvenile forensic psychology course

sucks about your linear algebra... my math skills end with statistics.

my math skills will probably never come to an end. all that lifelong learning bullshit that comes along with engineering... but oh well.

ima do back flips when this class is done... thats all i know.

Oh man. All I remember from linear algebra was Gauss-Jordan, or row-reduced echelon form (rref). It's basically useful for solving a system of (linear) equations by stuffing the coefficients into a matrix and performing rref on it.

As far as EE goes, the only thing I managed to apply it to was linear circuit analysis and solving all the things at once. It also comes in handy after you Laplace everything and transform complex stuff into simple, simple algebra problems.

But I guess they want one to have an understanding of the theory before they teach you the tools to make things easier and faster (Matlab). I remember turning in homework that were pages and pages of matrix calculations.

lol! funny you mention that because all the matrix stuff is actually easy... its when you get into vector spaces and subspaces and linear independence and basis and linear transformations and all that nasty stuff that it gets real bad.

really dont need any of that last stuff for my degree, but the matrix shit does help i guess. i just cant wait until this clas is over with.

Posted by Moongoose on Jun-05-2008 08:26:

Matrix "stuff" is very useful, in fact its the only thing that i find useful in various tasks. THe last time i bothered with vector spaces was when i was taking the exam, they never came up again in anything after that

That's probably why it's the only thing I remember from it.

And the other stuff you will probably not use ever again, but you should still try to learn it to the best of your ability. It is frustrating having to do the silly proofs (like 0 + 0 = 0) which aren't all that important except to career mathematicians.

wow thanks for that in depth thought there chief. in the most likely scenario that you're retarded ill explain. i wasnt asking for help. i was simply bitching about the situation im in. i dont remember typing "can someone tutor me?"

Your the retard who majored in engineering and can't hack it with linear Algebra...maybe u should take up business or basket weaving. Shuffle off now.

The instructor decided to erase half the test scores, multiply the score of the Final by 3, and grade on a curve.

Lucky me, I had the highest failing grade.
Unlucky me, the entire class was called in for a day during the summer vacation for an investigation+audit.

I always hated chemistry until I took it my senior year and got a teacher who was 25 and smoking hot. Got an A in that shit with lots of help outside of class from her

Taking an adderall and/or dexy to study is probably the best advise in this thread.

now that thats out of the way... i think i actually did alright on this quiz today. atleast i was able to answer everything unlike the quiz last week. not 100% i did everything right, but my grade will def be better than last weeks. i guess staying up until 3am two nights ago and 4am last night did pay off.

oh and for the double whammy... its "you are" or "you're" not "your."

I remember my under grad Mech Eng. I worked hard every week/weekend until the last day of senior year. I never had to take linear algebra but got parts of it in all my classes so if I ever did have to take it I think I do alright. I.e eigenvalues, spatial vectors, dot products, matrices, etc..

All Mech classes contained math from 1st grade to 3rd years college stuff so most of what I learned was important.

Now that I graduated all I need is the computer calculator for my job because I don't work in a technical work place but due to getting my masters now its back to the books one more final time

PS. if you have 0 apples and want to remove 1 apples how do you do that if you did not have any apples in the first place?

I know 0 - 1 = -1 but in the case above how is that physically possible

Now that's really simple. You just need an imaginary apple, square it, and voil you have -1 apple!

With math you gotta slow down for a sec and see what the big picture is all about. Numbers can just be useless unless there is a meaning to it in the end.

ok so now we have -1 apples. What the heck does -1 apples look like??

What I am trying to convey is negative number can't always be used for everything.

College sometimes over looks this and will have kids churnning out numbers to get A's but not know why 2+2 = 4 and so on. When you graduate college then all the formula's you learned might not help unless you understand what goes on during the formula usage.

It'a an apple shaped hole. You can put an apple in it to make it disappear.

got a fuckin B+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont think ive ever been so happy about a B... usually i get mad if i get a B. lol

Linear algebra was probably the easiest of the 123412341235161346 math courses i had to take for my engineering degree, and i have used none of it since i graduated. I found discrete and finite element much more of a bitch than linear algebra, perhaps it was because i learned how to get maple to work on my ti-83....

i also found a version of minitab that ran on the TI-83.... which made stats a walk in the park, infact im pretty sure i was still drunk from the night before when i wrote my stats final and i got an A on it.

just a quick question, you said you were taking electrical engineering? are you per chance of east indian or asian decent? just currious if the trend holds true at FSU as it does at any major engineering shcool in canada.

lol just wonedering. i was talking to Linze (PartEgurl) and she was saying that her bf at the time was an electrical engineer and i said "he's brown isnt he" and she said "lol yeah how did you know?"...

answer: "electrical engineers are all brown guys....."

There's some truth to that. An exceptionally high percentage of engineering students in Germany are foreigners. I remember some prof explaining that along the lines of:
Engineering is amongst the most difficult subjects to study, and most Germans are just not willing to work hard for success anymore. They become lazy and useless bastards and can usually have a decent life without working too hard. Foreigners, on the other hand, can only establish themselves in our society by hard work and a good graduation in a science where there are lots of well paid jobs.
I remember a lot of guys quitting in the first year because they suddenly realized that you don't get a diploma for partying and hanging around for 5 years.

you need to find balance. Work Hard & Party Hard. thats the only way i could do it. you cant work like that for 5 years straight without an outlet to unwind....
