hockey is Canada's game, HNIC has been an institution for decades, and pretty much any sports fan (and countless non-sports fans) instantly recognizes that song.
why wouldn't it be headline news?
it beats the hell out of hearnig about some stabbing...or whatever Obama's retard former pastor is babbling about at the pulpit this week
I stopped watching hockey many many many yrs ago, but this theme track I still love hearing and cant get sick of it.
Too bad they gotta remove it ... this should be used for our anthem.
TSN bought the rights to the theme
lol.
Yep.
Serves the CBC right. Them not renewing the song is even less intelligent than if they changed the theme song to The Simpsons.

TSN just used the "hockey night" theme to introduce their national 6:30 pm "sportscentre" broadcast. Ha. burn.

i wonder who gets fired at cbc now.

| Originally posted by MarkT whatever. I gave up on hockey after the labour stoppage and the Leafs continued unwillingness to field a competitve team or hire competent management and staff. Raps run a much better franchise (from a fan point of view). |

this is a good sign for the leafs actually.
the song was first played in 1968, the year after the leafs won the last cup. now that the song is gone, there is nothing stopping the leafs from winning the cup.

| Originally posted by Swamper That's a bargain considering the branding/history behind the song and that HNIC is a rating's poster child for the CBC. I can't even fathom them coming up with a replacement that will appease both the old folks AND the younger generation. They'd probably be smart not to bother having a jingle whatsoever next season. Apparently, CBC offered $1 million but that was denied and CTV came in with a higher offer - for use on TSN as well as CTV during their broadcast of hockey games in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. |
