Kelly is super fantastic..

You might want to check out apartments or other private rentals as they tend to be cheaper.

www.vrbo.com
www.vacationrentals.com

The earlier you book the cheaper it will be. Places tend to book up fast. Especially ones that are really affordable.

If you have any questions just ask.. I am sure Kelly or I can help. New York has kinda become my second home.

WOW thanks so much Shelley....this site will definately come in handy!!

Some of these places are for the rental prices they're wanting!!!

aww thats sweet We will have tons 'o fun

I would say book it sooner than later because its still warm out, and thus, still prime time. Considering the event, I would look for a place below 59th street....best access to all that NYC has too offer, and not as far from Brooklyn (where the event will prolly be held). Stay away from the upper west side (where I live) because cabs generally wont take you to brooklyn, and to take the subway from where I live is about 30 minutes to brooklyn after switching THREE trains (maybe further depending how far in to brooklyn we need to go!!)

THe best way to figure out the city is by using our subway map:

http://mta.info/nyct/maps/submap.htm

Also, we have hopstop.com which will tell you the exact info from your doorstep and what subways/stops/routes to take to a "T". Hope that helps a little

haha cribs I said you looked like a JER-Z boy, but New York will do because you are way too cool to be associated with the dirty jerzzeeee!!

Shell: thanks for makin me look good I am really an awful evil person.....

Purple haze: actually, considering where some of those condos are, the prices are reasonable for what we are accustomed to. If we pay $200 per night at a hotel, whats $300 a night for a huge condo in a prime area of manhattan

Not that it's a bad lineup, the only artist on that list that really 'excites' me is Seph.

Here's hoping he's one of the ones that get snagged up this way

Totally agree with you on this one, Kaniz.
Nothing too original there with these bookings,
just a load of artists who all sound very similar.

Seph live is simply insane.

some pple are quite picky!

id go see this lineup every weekend and not get tired of it!

Posted by kaniz on Jun-11-2008 00:53:

It's still a pretty good/solid lineup - and if it was happening around Toronto/Southern Ontario, I'd be kind of excited. But, that lineup - you see most of those guys at just about every other festival, and many of them have been to Toronto before.

Just doesn't strike me as "worth a road-trip, vacation time, and the expense of staying in NY and crossing the border".

Butane, Seph, Dilo vs Gurtz = all people I'd be super excited to see if they came to Toronto.

Seph, mmmmmmmmmmm... maybe it is worth a trip -- maybe if I can get my passport details worked out in time

Posted by She_Fitz on Jun-11-2008 01:40:

I am pretty excited and even more excited that lots of peeps are coming along.

I think it should be a really good time.

Posted by ostrich on Jun-11-2008 05:18:

Honestly though, this is supposed to be NYC's Electronic Music Festival yet there is no diversity with their line up. Don't get me wrong, I would book each and one of them for my events in Montreal. But how about digging a little deeper and showcasing artists that aren't as big as these, like what MUTEK does. You know.. Some house, some dub - mix it up a bit.

Posted by london_ta on Jul-16-2008 15:41:

So where is everyone stayin?

I am trying to figure this out....

It's kind of a big city to try and randomly land a hotel close to the location.

Posted by She_Fitz on Jul-16-2008 15:58:

Word in the NY forum is that more details should be coming soon...

Beatportal mentioned the location being in Brooklyn but nothing concreate has been published.

I am staying with Bobby so our home base will be in Long Island.

I would suggest staying midtown or lower..

Midtown - all the major subway lines go there and it is pretty easy to get to Brooklyn or Queens if necessary.

I would say staying Downtown would be about the same...

Brooklyn - I don't know the area very well but I know it would be cheaper to stay there. (Paging Yankeebaby)

Posted by yankeeBaby on Jul-16-2008 16:30:

I would look at the DoubleTree Hotel. Midtown is expensive and thats a reasonable price in a great location. Its on like 51st and Lex (around there).

If anything, find something in that AREA. Midtown east will be your best bet for all the "NYC-stuff", and since its on the east side it will be MUCH closer to brooklyn (crossing town on a subway is a bitch...so stay on the east side!!!)

definately stay below 100th street as well, unless you wanna get killed.

Stay below 80th street if you want the convenience and the NYC experience.

Use this map as your guide....

Yup downtown is decent too. There are some fun thing to do in DT, but I would still suggest paying a little extra to stay in midtown. Proximity to the sightseeing AND the subway lines will be worth the money (and worth saving on tons of cab fare!)

Edit: also, if there ARE events in Manhattan (which I am sure there will be some!), they will more likely than not be in the mid-town to Greenwich Village range. There are really no clubs in DT, just the Financial District and businessy places I have never gone OUT in downtown in my life! lol

If you wanna stay in brooklyn, look at the map and ASK FIRST. seriously, PM me or ask on the NY forums. Brooklyn has a lot of GREAT places (ie: bars, cafes, brick-streets, gorgeous views and condos, beaches, etc....), but its literally 50/50. The bad places are really really really bad. lol

Posted by MissK on Jul-16-2008 19:33:

SRSLY considering this.

Won't make a decision for a while though.
