Generally the best debates come from when people debate the side they don't beleive in.

shaolin_Z I'd like to see all of the stuff you can muster on why we need more authoritarian measures, including incedents where police are brutally assulted or save innocents through use of either tasers or non-violent means. You sould pay speciall attention to Kent State and other civil disturbances around the world where police of the day used bullets instead of tasers to fram your argument.

Q5echo - I'd like to see you post about all the nastyness that cops do, including using thier authority to gain sexual favours from civilians. And remember, the cleaner the victims the more points you score. Double that amount if you can get shots of cops beating down people in pin stripe suits.

Videotape Shows Officer Shoving Cyclist
By Jonathan Dienst

POSTED: 5:49 pm EDT July 28, 2008
UPDATED: 12:45 pm EDT July 29, 2008
NEW YORK --
The NYPD has disciplined a Midtown police officer who had arrested a bicyclist he appears to have knocked to the ground, according to a videotape of the incident released Monday.

The videotape has raised concerns about the officer's sworn account that the bicyclist deliberately drove into him last Friday evening during a Critical Mass bicycle ride in Times Square, a source said.

After the videotape surfaced, the NYPD took away police officer Patrick Pogan's badge and gun, temporarily placing him on desk duty. The Manhattan District Attorney also announced that it was investigating the incident.

In a criminal complaint, Pogan accuses bicyclist Christopher Long of steering into him, the impact flinging Pogan to the ground and causing cuts on his forearms. However on the video, shot by a bystander, it appears as if Pogan is the aggressor who with both hands shoves the 29-year-old Long off his bicycle as he traveled down Seventh Avenue by 46th Street about 8:30 p.m. July 25th. The videotape shows that Long hit the ground but doesn't show Pogan thrown off his feet.

Police arrested Long, charging him with attempted assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct -- charges that now are under scrutiny given the videotape, a source said.

"The officer has been placed on modified assignment pending further investigation of the incident," said Paul Browne, the NYPD's spokesman. The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association declined comment.

Long declined comment but a Critical Mass supporter said confrontations like these are common between police and bicyclists. At their monthly bicycle rides, Critical Mass has at times been accused of blocking traffic and causing disruptions to promote "non-polluting transportation."

"I was just horrified, you see the police officer knocking the cyclist off his bicycle" said Judy Ross of Time's Up!, a promoter for Critical Mass.

However a former NYPD official said the videotape may not tell the whole story. "You can't see what the bicyclist is doing as he approaches the officer, other than he is coming close to the officer," said security consultant Thomas Ruskin, president of the CMP Group.

It's kind of ironic that people living under a communist regime have more balls than the spineless tossers that claim to live in the land of the free and home of the brave:

Chinese cop-killer becomes internet hero

A Chinese man accused of murdering six policemen has attracted increasing levels of approval and adulation from internet users as his trial begins in Shanghai.

By Malcolm Moore, Shanghai Correspondent
Last Updated: 9:54AM BST 27 Aug 2008

Yang Jia, a 28-year-old unemployed man from Beijing, appeared in court in Shanghai charged with an alleged attack against the police on July 1, the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party.

Mr Yang is said to have thrown molotov cocktails into a police station in Zhabei, a northern suburb of the city, before entering the building and attacking a group of unarmed officers with a knife. He was arrested at the scene.

However, instead of condemnation, he has received widespread approval from Chinese internet users, or netizens, for his apparent act of defiance.

He has become a symbol for the growing number of people who are attacking Chinese police in protest at the brutality of the state.

Mr Yang has even been compared to Wu Song, one of the greatest heroes in Chinese literature, who killed a tiger with his bare hands.

One message left on his MySpace page said: "You have done what most people want to do, but do not have enough courage to do".

The prosecution said Mr Yang had acted out of "revenge" after he was caught by police riding an unlicensed bicycle last October and interrogated. He later sued the Shanghai police for 10,000 yuan (803) for psychological damage, but his claim was rejected.

Mr Yang is rumoured to have been badly beaten and maimed by police.

One blogger, Zi Bingyue, wrote: "Yang Jia is not bad. He has no previous criminal record. On the contrary, he has a strong sense of the law. He gave seats to older people on the bus and carried luggage for weak travellers."

His father, Yang Fu, said his son must "have been greatly wronged" and added that he hoped Mr Yang's almost inevitable death sentence would help spur the Chinese legal system to change in the future.

Another blogger, Qing Feng, wrote that Mr Yang had been ground down by the reality of being unemployed in China. "He would have self-destructed one way or another since he has lost hope. He has no job, no degree, no income, no background, no relationship or normal family," he said.

Since Mr Yang's arrest, his lawyers have been uncontactable. An attempt by the Telegraph to trace them to a second-floor office in north Shanghai was met with a simple note saying that the office would be closed for the foreseeable future.

In addition, blogs mentioning Mr Yang have been deleted and bloggers have been told by websites that sensitive articles will be blocked.

i can't stand cops with that type of complex.

alot of people may disagree with me here but i'm going to say it anyway. cops are fucking useless, the only safety you have is self-defense, if you wait on a cop to intervene and save your life... well then your life is most likely going to end.

the one and only time i've ever called the cops they never came. i woke up to the sound of someone's crowbar trying to get into our place through the back porch. i called the cops, waited as long as i could then finally went outside and confronted the person with a baseball bat. they never did even come. they're fucking useless sorry if my opinion upsets some people but that's just how i feel

here's a cop story that happened here in Atlanta
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21917124/

narcotics officers raided the wrong house, a 92 year old woman was killed in self defense, then marijuana was planted in her house by the police so that they wouldn't get in trouble. Thank you, war on drugs!

Atlanta sued in police killing of 92-year-old
Woman's relatives act after two officers pleaded guilty to manslaughter

updated 1:46 p.m. ET, Wed., Nov. 21, 2007
ATLANTA - The family of a 92-year-old woman fatally shot during a botched drug raid has filed a lawsuit against the city and police on the first anniversary of the killing.

The State Court lawsuit was filed Wednesday by a niece of Kathryn Johnston, accusing them of racketeering, civil rights violations, assault, false imprisonment and negligence.

The suit targets the city, Police Chief Richard Pennington and five current and former police officers. The family is seeking unspecified damages.

Hezekiah Sistrunk Jr., an attorney for the niece, Sarah Dozier, said they had attempted to talk to the city about a settlement.

"That has been unsuccessful. That is why we are here today," he said at a news conference.

Plainclothes narcotics officers burst into Johnston's home Nov. 21, 2006, using a no-knock warrant. Johnston was killed during the raid in a hail of nearly 40 police gunshots.

Prosecutors said the officers obtained the warrant by falsely telling a judge that an informant confirmed drug dealing at the home. The informant later told federal investigators he was told by police to concoct the tale.

Officer allegedly planted marijuana
Prosecutors also said that one of the police officers planted three bags of marijuana in Johnston's home as part of a cover-up after no drugs were found.

The suit accuses officers who raided the home of violating Johnston's constitutional protections against unreasonable searches and seizures and the use of unreasonable and excessive deadly force. It cites witness tampering in its racketeering accusation.

Prosecutors charged three officers involved in the raid. Two of the officers, Jason R. Smith and Gregg Junnier, pleaded guilty to state manslaughter and federal civil rights charges. They have left the police force. A judge Tuesday ordered the two to turn themselves in by Dec. 3. No sentencing date has been set.

A third officer, Arthur Tesler, who is on administrative leave, faces charges of violating the oath of a public officer, making false statements and false imprisonment under color of legal process. His attorney has said Tesler expects to go to trial.

All three are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

"I am thankful my aunt's innocence has been proven," Dozier said in a statement read to reporters. "I am also deeply saddened that the city of Atlanta has refused to admit responsibility for unconstitutional practices."

Dozier was not present at the news conference.

No comment from city, police
Beverly Isom, a spokeswoman for Mayor Shirley Franklin, declined to comment on the suit, referring calls to an attorney for the city. The attorney, Jerry De Loach, declined to comment, saying the city had yet to be served with the lawsuit and wanted to review it before responding.

Officer Ronald Campbell, a spokesman for Atlanta police, said, "We are unable to comment on anything because of the legalities of it."
