that had to be one of the best halves of football i have ever witnessed. czech republic looked like they had it wrapped up with their second, but the turks kept attacking the left side of the czech defense and it paid off! and nihat, what a finish on the third to seal the deal.
lol at the volkan red. for a few minutes, my friends and i thought, he got a red for trying to punch the ball away? and then we saw the two-hand shove. |
Yeah that's definetly one of the best matches I've ever witnessed in my lifetime at the Euro's. This along with the Netherlands - Czech match at Euro 2004.

i think i said something similar when he let that imbrahimovic goal in the other day
re: this match, fantastic performance by the turks towards the end.. czechs were starting to tire & they capitalised brilliantly

turks deserved it. no doubt.
one of the most entertaining 2nd halves that i've ever seen.

Well saying it once is not bad compared to the 4 times Gigi's probably said it now, and that with an ITALIAN defense in front of him.
Anyway, we are off topic here. Confirmation on whether or not this is the greatest comeback in European Championship history?

Best comeback I ever remember was when we went from 2 goals down to win 3-2 over England, in 2000. Turkey did it in less minutes, though, so I guess they win.

Yeah, true. I remember that game as well, stunner from Figo if I remember.
Netherlands - Czech was a decent game back in 2004 where Holland went 2-0 up inside 25 minutes but then lost in with a few minutes to go and go 3-2 down. That was a special match, Nedved's 40 yarder which smacked the bar will live long in the memory even though it didn't go in.

Two true classics, but I guess I've subconsciously tried to blur them from my memory (I was supporting England and Holland in each case).
Still, minutes-wise, I think we might have a new record.

My Czech friends was upset! It is big shame for them. And big surprise for all tournament. Well, I said, that TUR are underrated, but NOT this way! I am shocked....

I did, but not as clearly as I thought. I forgot Beckham's penalty miss, and that both of France's goals had been scored after the 90 minute mark. Same thing with Spain, that both were scored in added time, and that they hadn't taken the lead at any point in the game.
Which one is the greatest? Beats me.

I remember my boss (a transplanted Brit in NY) absolutely shellshocked after following that game online. He was at a loss for words.

What makes you so sure?
Obviously we were getting trashed by the Czech until the 80th minute...
The ball is round and there is 90 minutes in a game... just remember

Just look at the statistics of the Czech vs Turkey game...
Goals Scored: Turkey (3), Czech (2)
Shots on Goal: Turkey (8), Czech (5)
Shots wide: Turkey (7), Czech (8)
Ball Poss%: Turkey (57%), Czech (43%)
So it's obvious Turkey was the better team.
and here are past games Croatia vs Turkey
Croatia 2 - Turkey 2 (Friendly Game 2004)
Croatia 1 - Turkey 1 (Some Cup Game 1997)
Croatia 1 - Turkey 0 (Euro 96)
So, its going to be a close game... The only reason Turkey is going to struggle and might loose is because due to injured starting players and suspensions...
