ok, got last week but was away, this thing is SIKKKK, im amazed at how far you can see the beam, id say way over 20-30 miles easy, I do need to send back, as after 3-5 min it drops to 50% power, but they said they will just ship me a new one (must have a defect), great service. this is the handheld unit, but I think I want to get a fixed mount laser.
My friends where blown away at the power, Steve, id get one for sure!!
also waiting for some more optic crystals to bend the beams,etc...the beam spliter works great though, guess im a lazer geek now

I'm a bit worried about some of the previous posts though, I don't want to blind someone or set fire to the woods..

Get a 4.9mW laser. I just placed an order for a 4.9mW fixed mount laser that projects about 100 diff. laser shows. Wont harm anyone or burn your house down. I am going to mount in a tree in my backyard and project it on the lawn or pool...just the right amount of power, or get LED light sets, these are very very cool.

Do me a favour please then Ed, Try and take a vid for us..I wanna bounce laser beems off our river..We see all these good lasers on line for sale but I cant find any 'Demo Videos'..I'd appreciate it if you could do that for us...

This guy I know from another non-music related forum built his own green laser. He said he programmed it to change effects with the music. Here is a vid of his....

http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c...nt=InSterio.flv

Here is thie actual thread about his laser...
http://www.blasterforum.com/off-top...een-lasers.html

This is what he said.." made it myself. The box is kinda a joke it had some lame sewing machine light in it with some not so cool plastic color filters. I disassembled it and took out all that redundant crap and added a real laser. The laser itself is a PPL 532nm green and @ 185mw it burns things. Not joking. It's range outside is limited by the curvature of the earth. It's actually illegal to have outside because it can blind you faster then you can blink.
With that said HELL YEAH it's fun and I'm safe with it"

This is me operating them.... rather good ones too.
People go nuts for them in breakdowns...

Ill find out the model for you Steve, but likely to be expensive.... Ill have a poke around and see whats good for performance vs cost- some real shitboxes out there not worth the metal they are made from...

Personally I think the LED light boxes I use can be more effective - ill try searching for a vid of them....

Andy, one of them is exactly what we want...

lasers = or > 5mW (class IIIb or grater) output power are hazardous if looked at for more than a few ms. the beam has to be dispersed, diffused or the laser has to change direections faster than a few ms in order not to cause any eye damage.

it could be the reason why many clubs do not have lasers (after all a couple thousand dollars for a nice laser is not too much)
maybe some states require licences of some sort ?
anyone know?

I was wondering whether We'd need a permit or not..That's a good point..

Posted by Freak on Jun-26-2008 09:26:

There are some awkward rules regarding their use in clubs in the UK.... I believe the US has even more awkward ones regarding use in clubs..

damm 185mW is sweet, very very powerfull. Steve, you can get a unit like the ones on the vid. Might run $900+ for one. Just google "DJ Green lasers" and you will find some good sites. You dont need a permit. Just dont point into the sky, people have been arrested for that, as the beams might hit a plane,etc...some sites even have Vids of the units in action. Again, look at the LED units, they are super nice also. You have enough land for a nice set up.

Of course this may be total gossip; but I have heard something about outdoor lasers needing permits from the FAA cause they'll fuck the planes up. I dunno.

Make sure you put Rocky in a protective suit, Ed

Only if you point them in the sky at a plane. Mine will point to the pool or ground,etc....stupid people have been arrested for doing such a thing, also people pointing them at cars,etc...but you can visit me in jail

Let's see the vids, $900 aint too bad, the ones we've been looking at are around $3500.

could def. zap the lizards with it

Me and my roommates got a LanLing L2100 for our house, its a double tunnel green laser @ 25 watts each (2 lasers in one box). we got it for 300 bucks shipped from china off of ebay(shipping was like 90 bucks) and it is soooo worth it, its fucking sweet, it has "over 100 laser patterns, with over 300 laser effects". (you get the point) It also has a microphone for sound sensing, as well as those standard DJ inputs (forgot what they are called, they are on the back of pioneer mkII and xone 92 mixers) to connect with controllers. It If you are in the market, i would highly recommend this one.

And I am pretty sure that the law in the US is that everytime a club puts on lasers (like when pacha has stellar design over) they have to go through the govt to get a permit, which is for that night only. i think. and any laser over 4.9kw is illegal unless you have a permit.

4.9KW?? that is probably input power to the laser, what matters is the output. I dont really know how much power the lasers in the clubs output, but 4.9KW sounds a lot.

KW?? Im looking at mW KW power is massive power

I know the guys that do the lasers for the big shows in nyc.. A few notes:

1.. If it's outside, they have to register with the FAA
2.. Their lasers are in the 15-40 WATT range.. no milliwatts with the pro stuff
3.. The big laser uses something like 5-10 gallons of water a minute to keep it cool. Water in = standard cold temp, water out = hot enough to use for coffee.
4.. The laser setup used for Armin on Saturday actually scorched hair and punched a hole in the shirt of the guy who set it up..
5.. I'm not sure specifically about permits, but they do have to be licensed to run/buy/rent the equipment.

that's probably 4.9 watts.. though even that much is pretty crazy for a regular person to have..

4.9 KW would be in the weapons range..

And keep in mind this is all output power.. to get 5 watts out, you might need 50KW in at the wall socket..

im in a frat up in syracuse university. and up till recently we just had a few shitty colord lights. We recently, upon my request got a few lasers. They are real sweet and a add a whole new element to our parties. People get real mad when i try putting on really hard house, they want that shitty main stream stuff they play in the bottom floor of webster. But im trying to change that. I find out exactly what kinda lasers we got...I kno they are reletivly cheap and off ebay

Posted by Uncle ED on Jul-09-2008 19:03:

I have the Chauvet Scorpion Fat beam System. Has about 10-12 beams and is 10mW, which is more than fine for my house.....I also have a handheld one at 125mW which is pretty powerful......
