my take on the evening
luckily we got there early, thank god no line up
as everyone said picotto was sick, he wouldnt let up, the bass kept poundin, as for the rest, i thought tall paul and max graham could have played better, the arrows set was pretty good, and they used the craziest lighting for his set, i didnt stay for xl as he sux ass
my only real complaint was the vibe, it wasnt the usaul party vibe younormally get from a 514 party, it seemed after picotto like evryone was just standing around, no one was dancing, maybe it was because picotto kicked there ass too. im glad to hear that the webmonstah had good time in mtl, as i said the parties here are like no others. it was also good to meet mastercongo, by chance we met as hes was leaving
peace

oh ya and 4$ coat check wtf?

The Lizard man killed all.

When is he coming back in octobre ?
Does anyone know the event ?

Posted by Biggy on May-21-2002 15:29:

2 hours of line-up for only 4000 - 4500 people?
Bal en Blanc was 13 000 people and there was no complaints about waiting. There was a problem for sure with the police or something else? Maybe 514 didn't paid enough police officers for their party.
Anyway, it was not 514 party but House of Blues party.

Hope we wont wait that long to get in Aria this summer !!

Biggy Why do you always have to bash everything 514 does..It was a wicked party. the problem with the line-up was that they only have 4 doors to go through were at the Big O they had way more. Atleast this party had good sound,

Mauro set was amazing...I took a couple of pictures I'll put them up when they get developed,

I actaully liked everyones set...The music was awesome starting from Preach, even XL played well....

apu they allowed you to get in with a camera?

Posted by anastasia on May-21-2002 20:16:

Got there by 11:30pm (drove from Ottawa), didn't get in until 1:15. We waited 30 mins out side for an ambulance to pick up a person who overdosed in the party. I guess people started early and took too much by 11:30pm. Got inside the doors, few people didn't get in becasue lack of ID that you are over 18. Felt sorry for a few people in line who had dropped there E already and didn't get in. Had to wait again for the cops to bring out two guys in handcuffs and then came there gf's running behind - I guess selling in the party.
Got to the searches which took forever and I could see so many scrambling around taking stuff from there socks to put it in there pants.
Got into the party, not as many people as I thought there were going to be. Missed most of Tall Paul but I did hear madagascar - one of my fav tunes.
Max Graham came on and he wasn't to exciting. There was too much bass which drowned out the good parts of the tracks.
When Mauro Picotto came on I was disappointed that he was playing techno tracks and not his classic tunes. During his set I went walking to find girls making out with guys and there bf was watching it. Saw it atleast 5 tims and saw two guys geting it on the mattresses and a girl watching. Interesting place.
Over all I was disappointed - too much bass, to many undercover cops asking around if we were selling anything and not enough people.
I did manage to take some pics - I only put 3 online.

I think I had more fun at the White on White then at Swirl. Had more fun later on at home.

I can assure you that the problem was not that they only had 4 doors. they could have easily pushed the security back and created a funnel. They didnt hire enough security. That was the problem. End of story.

anastasia put some info in the ottawa ta post.

Posted by StereoPrincess on May-21-2002 21:48:

hmmm...well for all those peeps that waited in line for hours...hopefully it was your first time at a 514 party because you should have known to come early to those things. yes I know you don't get the full rush of entering a packed arena but at least you don't gotta freeze your ass off.
Anyways from past experience, we showed up very early @ like 10:15 and no waiting and the security was not that hard core, at least I didn't have to take my shoes off. Like they wrote, they weren't able to hire more security because they charged double because of the holiday.
So upon entering, there was hardly no one there but at least we could sit and wait for the party to start inside where it was warm. I really didn't find Preach that good, I guess I expected something else since you guys said he was good. Well, when Tall Paul came on, I started to have a good time. His sets always are different from all other DJs I have leard because he plays so much variety. Very cool!! At that time I met up with DJHappy who I saw over and over again through out the night. Such a nice guy. As for Max Graham, since I haven't heard him in a while i didn't have any expectations. He was good and I think its very cool that he constantly changes his sets. Obviously he is going to spin according to who spun before him and who is spinning after him and for how long his set is. The guy must have like a million records. During Max's set, I almost had a heart attack when I saw Swamper because I didn't know that he was going to be there. I even shared my traditional 4:20 orange. Anyways, the party was amazing. I also felt a different vibe but it was a bad kind of vibe so I didn't complain. There was a lot of room to dance and no pushy people were around. The only scary thing was i also saw a girl be taken away on a stretcher and i have never witnessed that before. if you wanted to stay away from the freaky stuff, then it was pretty easy or maybe I'm just blind.
Mauro Picotto hurt me!!! I really enjoyed his set and i thought it was going to be 2 hours only but it was 3 so that was very very cool. I love his style because it gets me really really pumped and hyper. and then of course lefleche had to ruin everything. at one point i saw a dude actually calling out for lafleche while mauro was on, i thought i was going to tackle him to the ground, but to each his own. Over all i had an awesome time at the party but a shitty thing happened on the way out of montreal, we go stopped by the police for speeding because the ******s set up a speed trap and they were pulling over a whole bunch of people. what a bad end to an awesome night. too bad I didn't see too many more of you, oh well, maybe next time. i did meet some peeps from ottawa but i didn't think to ask them if they were tranceaddicts.
Swamper, me and my boyfriend Ray (a.k.a. Gamma on this site) got to hang with Max Graham for a few tunes. that was pretty cool and he said that spinning that night was really hard and I'm sure most of us picked up that first track being all fucked up but we told him that he was amazing none the less.

Posted by El-See on May-21-2002 22:17:

I don't get it.

I'm probably the only one who didn't really like his set. It was more of hard house than of techno! I was disapointed, really disapointed.

The only track I really liked was: Dariush - Ira (Original mix) .

God damnit....I had to miss Tall Paul because of the fucking 2 hour waiting-line! . C'est quoi l'ide d'aller mettre Tall Paul minuit Tabar@#$%!!

Anyways, I'll see you guys at Tiesto!

WWWWWWWHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTT???????????????????????
DISAPOINTTED BY MAURO'S TUNE CHOICE?
I dont know what classic youre talking about, maybe komodo or pegasus or things like that but if you were looking tracklists of recent partys he was at, you would have noticed he doesnt play those anymore. maybe its because you dont know mauro that youre telling you had more fun at beb, cause if you knew him you would say that you wanted to die everytime we kicked the bass in. fuck man i cant stop thinking about it. i dont know if mastercongo remember how bad i was enjoying every time he glanced at me and every time there was an uplifting part, but i cant assure you i was the wildest man there was in the party! i mean, besides the unbelivable track choice, you have to recognize he was so intense, maybe not as intense at mayday, but he talked to the crowd in such a way that he controlled us only by his hands. he seemed to be so thankful to us for being, i think the major part of the crowd, so intense during his performance.
god im waiting impatiently till october!
suggestion:close this thread or ill become supreme way sooner that i was thinking!
mauro is god!

you mean that you can write example mauro addict?
400 posts!

Posted by mastercongo on May-22-2002 03:35:

stereo princess hopefully we will meet next time and swamper too!

el see? did you took any pills? hard house is miles away from what mauro picotto spun but im guessing you are the same as anastasia and were expecting the melodic side? and like castrateur said if you listen to some recent sets then he hasn't play any melodic stuff in a while, ok maybe back to cali but that's it.

anyway i will wait for him next time he comes, and stereo princes you should have tackle that guy hehe, also you probably didn't like preach much cause the starting vibe, at sona he spun a bit diffrent and people really got into it, and at swirl people started gettign into it almost when he had like 3 or 4 songs left to play

and still no one tells me if cameras were allowed lol

Mastercongo... Not 100% sure on the cameras but they did let my GF in with one. Also When I took my picture with Mauro there were a lot of people with camera's. The ticket stub never said no camera's.. I would never bring a wicked camera like yours to a rave just a disposible just in case. Maybe we just got lucky...

Posted by StereoPrincess on May-22-2002 14:34:

Oh yeah cameras were allowed. I saw this guy with a sweet digi camera and my friend also was able to bring hers in. I also saw video cameras but I don't know if they were with 514 or on their own.

Posted by itikia on May-22-2002 15:13:

My buddy was there and he told me that he couldn't get in with the camera, he had to leave it with his coat in coat check...

I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED THIS PARTY!!!!!!!! The stories i've heard about this party and the crowd in Montreal is unreal!!! I definitely have to come up there to experience the Montreal scene; from what i've heard it is leagues ahead of the Toronto scene, which is quite sad, BOO TORONTO!!!!

Well i knew that you guys would be blown away by Picotto, he did the same last year at Guvernment. I went not expecting too much and then he blew me and everyone else away, it was unreal. Every song with the biggest hype and biggest finish!! You guys are soo lucky to have experienced Mauro in a huge venue such as the Molson Center!!! DAMN!!!

Posted by Swamper on May-22-2002 15:15:

Man that sucks.. my buddy asked the bouncer if cameras were allowed and he said no and then he just checked it with his jacket...

I SO wanted pictures of that night.. Grrr

Posted by El-See on May-22-2002 17:05:

Yeah, I was indeed looking to hear some melodies, but all I heard was BOUM BOUM BOUM. I couldn't really tell the difference between what Mauro played and what Graham or Lafleche played.....for me, it's all the same shit. Glade you guys enjoyed though....it's just not my kind of music I guess. I'll stick to trance and hard trance

Looking forward to see Tiesto, Gielen and Rank 1 !!

??? how the hell would you sneak in a camera in that place? i was going to do what malek said my camara is big and feel cold down there and besides the lady security would have not belived that was part of my body lol it was too big. so explain how you sneak a camera witht hat kind of body search that they did.

and elsee yes i know you are a guy who likes melodies so also don't expect many melodies form marco v, listen to his latest set at contaqt good stuff and just like 20% songs with melodies.
