armand is one of the best ever i cant tell you how many times i used to listen to boogie monster, psychic bounty killers and a few others i forgot the names of.

doesn't change the fact that armand makes and plays house music. of course the mentioned artists in this thread makes catchier music than the chicago bunch, but it's still within the boundaries of house.

mark farina is a good house dj. this is a fair assessment?

Pop house is still house.

"pop" by itself isn't a genre.

i've seen roger a couple of times and he was alright. i mean i wouldn't say he was amazing...but then again i was rolling balls and it was at club space patio so i think anything would have sounded good at that point lol

he plays fun stuff...may not be a bunch of hidden, unrecognizable gems...but whatever. it's fun stuff.

i like prog house or at least recent stuff that's being called prog house (coz it sounds pretty much like trance).

shutup diggers... pop isn't even a proper genre.

failed elitism.

as far roger sanchez

i have a roger s unreleased promo from 1991 on capitol records (SPRO-05390) and it is as house as house can get.

What he's playing now may be much different, but under the Roger S and Egotrip aliases in the early 90s he was hot hot hot

such a sick record. maybe ill rip it so you can hear

right up there with

Coral Way Chiefs - Release Myself [Murk, 1992]

Posted by echosystm on Jul-01-2008 02:18:

Real house, IMO!

Marco Demark - Tiny Dancer (Moto Blanco Remix)

Whitest Boy Alive - Golden Cage (Fred Falke Remix)

Groove Armada - Love Sweet Sound

Old ones...

Basement Jaxx - Red Alert

Mousse T. - Horny '98

Modjo - Lady

Armand Van Helden - My My My

Armand Van Helden - I Want Your Soul

Stardust - Music Sounds Better With You

Eric Prydz - Call On Me

Armand Van Helden - You Don't Even Know Me

Daft Punk - One More Time

Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme

The world needs more of this.

Posted by nefardec on Jul-01-2008 03:13:

call on me is an 80s remix. that is not house.

here is some house i just ripped from a record. (samples only)

Roger Sanchez - "Tribal House" Unreleased Promo (One Side) [1991]
A1. Roger S Ego Trip Mix
A2. Roger S Holographic Mix

Roger Sanchez - "Tribal House" Unreleased Promo (Other Side) [1991]
B1. Phil Kelsey-DMC Mix
B2. Winston Jones Sample Dub

this is another good example

Of course, this
And this too
so many people have copied off this one in the past few years
this is the source material for anything funk dvoid has made as 'francois dubois'
can you feel it?
tears

just because it uses a sample from an 80's song it can't be house?

Posted by tubularbills on Jul-01-2008 12:44:

its' not house.

it's not 'not house' because it uses that sample, it's not house because of the arrangement and structure and complete lack of soul.

do you really think frankie knuckles would have played "call on me" at the warehouse?
