A classic post, pointing out "i'd like to see you do better" post as a raison detre for maintaining a perfectly legit elitist poker face, while ammounting to shit. You're just a walking, talking, and shitting encyclopedia of inTarwebZ cliches.

Pot, meet Kettle. Judging ppl over the internet is pretty dumb. Your reasoning is also pretty dumb.

Even if ppl went ape shit for "Cotton Eye Joe" doesn't stop the fact that it's a fuking horrid song!

edit - I am also sure that Swamper wrote the rules "Music Discussion
This is where you can talk about Trance, or any electronic music."

Man, its dance music...i mean its very sophisticated, we have to analyze it here in MD, break-down the countless notes and complicated signatures and stuff. Oh wait...

Cotton Eye Joe was an exageration. The point was that music is only as good as listeners deem it. If you don't like it - fine. If you like it - fine. I don't see a need be swinging dicks over which song belongs or does not belong in a set. The crowd ate it up, they (in majority, based on reaction) enjoyed it. So you didn't enjoy it - what's the big fucking deal?

Besides, isn't the definition of a "commercial" song is the one that is played on the radio or is mainstream? I have yet to hear this song on our local radio. When I do, I'll agree about its commercialisim and treat it accordingly. Meanwhile, it was fun. Overplayed? Sure. Beaten to death by every jock? Yup. Was it fun hearing it? Yessss!

Lighten up ppl. It's only music.

Elitist poker face? What does that even mean?

I'm just glad I'm not so incapable of understanding that not everyone is going to like what I do, that when they don't, it hurts my feelings, and I proceed to go on rants like the following:

I don't understand this ELITIST BULLSHIT! If the track works, if the crowd reacts, WHAT THE FUCK? Play that shit. I don't give a fuck if Armin played "Cotton eye joe", as long as it worked in a set.

...Who writes the fucking rules?
and out of curiosity to the threadstarter: When was the last time you had THOUSANDS of clubbers jumping to the tunes you spin?

I'm quite glad I'm not like that.

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Jul-08-2008 03:18:

I don't know. It's opinions in a Music Discussion section. I wouldn't take it so serious as some of you.

Armin played this Funkagenda - Mashed up with Santiago & Bushido - Head Trick. So it was a bit odd in the middle of an Armin set.

Hey I give credit to ppl who can have a general opinion on shit, rather than a clueless fuk that just goes crazy for anything with a stupid vocal.

Huh? Ah, typical wasted blather from RJT. Now it all makes sense.

Posted by Omega_Blue on Jul-08-2008 03:22:

cotton eye joe would fucking rock a club, i don't know what the hell you guys are on about

Posted by nefardec on Jul-08-2008 03:23:

i just find it funny that deejays like armin van buuren and paul van dyk play songs like 'anthem' and dj shah and "THIS IS WHERE YOU SAW MY NAKED SOULLLLLLL" and "THE TIIIIME OF OUR LIIIIVES"

etc

and then THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WHAT WHAT THE FUCK

and don't tell me they're versatile. it's because they're soulless and will play whatever it takes to get good profit margins

why do you think these guys mash the track up with something else? - it's because their shitforbrains audience can't comprehend a song that empty on its own!

they just like to strut

but they don't know what is what!

i think paul van dyk must be taking this piss here. I mean this is a guy that even if he was always kind of playing the poppy side of things was at least highly involved in one of the most edgy and foward thinking music scenes of the last 25 years. this was a guy who grew up in a fucking communist warzone

and now he plays the anthem and pumps his fist with guidos and plays "THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WHAT WHAT THE FUCK".

am I the only one who finds that funny?

Posted by Omega_Blue on Jul-08-2008 03:25:

i need a sample

aren't those lyrics from a fatboy slim track?

My favorite part about when people post responses like this is that all it says is "I'm too massive a cretin to understand what you're saying."

That is just terrific.

whoaaa! angry post is angry! aren't you glad you don't go to these parties? I think for the sake of your fragile senses you should avoid these kinds of events. I recommend a 12 hour set by Zabiela and Villalobos. Nothing cures dislike for a song then a recording of drills, chainsaws, random farts, and pager beeps. Nothing screams "edgy" more than minimal. No anthems here. Nope, none. Just sound of the machines.

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Jul-08-2008 03:30:

PvD plays his edits of things and doesn't play songs in their entirety. He really mixes in and out of things quickly plus he plays at 140+.

I just think dj's like them, stopped playing what THEY like and started playing what the crowd likes.

Which I find wrong. I go to see a dj play his certain "style". Some dj's barely play songs outside their record labels.

I thought so as well. I don't know where the vocal comes from, but I do know that Fatboy Slim used it before Funkagenda...

Here's the Funkagenda version under discussion, I think:

will you shut your vagina already, ya daft cunt? No one gives a fucking shit of what you have to say. And even if everyone does, I don't. Fucking annoying little shit, jeezus. Why didn't your mom take it on the face instead of her snatch will forever remain a mystery. Meanwhile, everyone else needs to suffer from a Penguin-looking, pudgy and balding idiot as yourself.

Congrats on making my 'ignore' list, twat.

Yes, it samples the vocals from 'Fatboy Slim - Star 69'

Just the beautiful sound of machines.

...and if you think What The Fuck is superior to pretty much all of minimal tech, you really either haven't heard jack shit from the genre, or are to dense to try anything beyond the spoon fed tripe like this track fed to you by jocks like Armin & PVD.

The fact that you'd go to such great lengths to defend such crap music pretty much speaks for itself.

Originally, the vocal comes from Roland Clark - I Get Deep, I think.

Posted by nefardec on Jul-08-2008 06:28:

i think you're right now that you mention it. i remember hearing the 'what the fuck' line in a jay tripwire set

igetdeepigetdeepigetdeepigetdeeper... and the rhythm flows in my blood like alcohol and i get drunk and im falling all over the place....and i catch myself right on time, right on line with the beat, and it's so sweet, sweet, sweet

...and that just increases my loathing for this piece of shit tenfold

a horrible case of bastardization/appropriation. the dj le roi track is from the shelter and now armin plays it lol

and now i know why francois k played it

For someone who chastises people for getting angry at the internet, I sure seem to have raised your blood pressure a bit here.

There are few things in life that I find more amusing than people who get as worked up as you seem to have in this thread. Well played, m8 - congratulations on all your success. I'm sure your family is very, very proud of all you've accomplished.

And the two nice thing about you putting me on ignore are that you're still going to read my posts, it's just going to take an extra click and window now, and that when the next fellow comes along and causes you to have a mental breakdown and throw a temper tantrum like you've had here, I'll still be able to read it.

Am I the only one who likes minimal tech blip blop, likes deep soulful house/detroit techno, yet doesn't mind a silly bullshit fun track like this once in a while?

I think Sander Van Doorn is more so trance's response to minimal... Though speaking of which, SVD dropped this song a lot in Miami, hell nearly every big jock dropped it down there.
