How does some chick singing her bad poetry overtop a perfectly fine prog tune make the track complete? As I recall, the vocal was added without Cass & Slide's blessing, which would explain why the instrumental appeared on their album.

How can you say that, man? You're losing your mind! But that's okay. Get lost in the groove, throw the keys away.

I always thought the vocals were cheesy even for an epic house track, I dunno.

yeah, aurora added the vocals for the additive re-release. while the instrumental was always nice, it always struck me as half a tune that just kind of died during the middle section, as if they wanted to add another element but couldn't think of anything. the vocals in themselves may not be anything groundbreaking but they suited the mood perfectly and made everything more.. well.. complete. horses for courses i guess

it's funny the two people i've disagreed with most in this thread both featured in my 'users whose taste you respect' list from a few weeks back

WTF??? Silence has always had vocals as far as I'm aware. And the vocals are really good too - very classy.

And as for cass & slide - perception, the vocals used are absolutly amazing in my opinion! I agree with the comment that it sounds somewhat incomplete without them.

you can respect someones taste and disagree tho mate, it's just a case that when you disagree you do so constructively and have reasons for it!

You're just thick. There are many great vocal trance songs, most of which you probably don't even know about, but in recent years especially the number of meaningless vocal tripe has exploded. Tracks are given shitty vocals in order to sell. Trance as a state of mind does not need vocals, but can tolerate them placed well. These days however, they're usually just cheap, tacky and plain disturbing.

Coldcut - Autumn Leaves (Irresistable Force Mix Trip 2) [1993]

fucking singing just kills this track for me. mixmaster morris couldn't leave it just as an instrumental. nooooooo, he had to keep the crappy vocals in his remix.

That's because the track is crap even without the vocals

as for the thread:
M1 - Heaven Sent (Michael Woods Vox Mix)

Posted by montana on Jul-09-2008 09:04:

Stephen J Kroos - Sadistick (To Be Able Remix) , it was quite easy to edit out the vocals but that didn't make them any less horrible.

Amen to that.

It seriously annoys me when a really good dance track (without vocals) has vocals added to it so the tune can be released comercially, yeah it brings in the money which is what labels are after, but it just makes the tunes crap and thanks to this the average joe bloggs who doesnt listen to dance music instantly thinks its shit, im not suprised how many people hate dance music when all they get to listen to is the crap that spawns from tunes that then add vocals purely for a commercial release.

actually I gotta agree, its amazing how much that one line of vocal changes the track, definitely better without it. it was just unnecessary.

And yeah, definitely
Toca Me/Toca's Miracle
Syneathesia/Fly Away

however, theres one classic prog house song that I wish removed those ugly vocals and thats leftfield - open up. that dude's presence in that joint is fucking awful god damn. is there a dub of that song? I hope there is, my goodness....

'That Dude' is John Lydon, and absolute legend and the vocals are awesome on that track. An all time classic on it's original form, striping off the vocals would kill the track.

Fully agreed. It took real guts to use Lydon on a progressive house track and the fact that everyone from the critics to the dancefloor to Lydon loved it shows how well it paid off.

Heh. It isn't that uncommon. Heck, even though J' and I often see eye-to-eye on many things when writing for TC, there are still some things we vehemently disagree upon (case in point).

I know there are folks who find the vocals in Perception complete the track. I find them unnecessary. Such is variety of opinion.
