Even though I like the remake "Vanilla Sky", I definitely believe the original Spanish film "Abre los ojos" is a lot better. Maybe it's because I saw it first before the remake came out.

Anyway, both movies are great because Penelope Cruz stars in both versions. How cool to play the character of Sofia twice once in Spanish and the other in Spanglish. Just kidding I love her foreign accent! LOL

Penelope Cruz was 10X hotter, sexier and more beautiful in the original. Simply because she was younger in the first film. Nothing can take away the innocent beauty of youth. As people have already stated her character Sofia was the 'perfect girlfriend'. Sofia would be my type of ideal girl, but not necessarily the actress Penelope Cruz. If you know what I mean...

lol the first time i saw it, with the scene where he was fucking penelope; and then she changed into cameron diaz, and he was like, "WTF" yet kept fucking her anyway

now that's desperation.

good movie. classic Kubrick.

The ending gives me 15 minutes of goosbeumps each time. Soundtrack is outstanding if perhaps too packed. And while I usually dont like Penelope Cruz too much, I can't help but falling in love with her every time I see that movie.
Seriously its getting better as it ages!

Only seen it once but seem to remember it being not too bad.

oh and I discovered Sigur Ros on the weekend, can't believe its taken me this long to find them, absolutely in love with their stuff.

What does Vanilla Sky have to do with Stanley Kubrick?

He probably mistook it for Eyes Wide Shut.

Hehe... I was at the concert too.
In my opinion Cameron Crows remake tops the original which is mainly because of the Soundtrack ( which is awesome in every of his movies ).
Normally I am a remake hater and since Crowe did an 1:1 remake I should hate it. But in this case I cannot.

Smiling Frog

How did you like the concert?

Saw them twice within 4 days, magic!!! Couldn't believe this kind of music could be enjoyed live, but how wrong I was!

Twice? How did you manage that?
It was an overkill of feelings to me. I had goosebumps for the first 30 mins without a break and couldn't push that any further. And after them playing Gooblegidook and then Untitled#8 as encore I diiiiiiiiiiiiiied like some people do to Tiesto.
It was and will be the best concert/party this year for me.

Which means I saw Radiohead after that. Which means I'm a happy man!

The concert yesterday was very similar (even the same costumes/decoration) but a bit longer, obviously more intimate and a tad more melancholic. I could go watch them 10 more times now, though.

saw the original and the remake,
remake is better.

acting was better all around.

even Cameron Diaz, whom i fecking hate, did an excellent role in this one. ugh just wanted to punch her.

Tom Cruise, did a better role than Eduardo Noriega. i'm sorry but it's true.

and i liked Penelope Cruz being a dancer instead of a mime which kind of killed her for me in the original.

the ending scene.

"look at us, i'm frozen and you're dead. and i love you...I'll see you in another life, when we are both cats."

with Sigur Ros playing in the back, you can't get much better than that.

hollywood tends to feck up when they try to remake a foreign movie, but in this case....

Vanilla Sky > Abre los ojos

The last scene with the Sigur Ros track = Goosebumbs everytime i see it. One of the very few scenes that do that to me, together with Gladiator's ending coupled with Zimmer's "Now We Are Free" track and a few others.

Plus the movie as a whole is good and one of the rare cases that the Americal interpretation is better than the original (in that case spanish) one.
