quite seriously.

this was really fucking awful.

I don't dislike Joel or anything, I'm not a hater etc... but from a musical perspective, awful... really really bad.

Geez. This mix is "essential" because...?

Maybe there should be some kind of contractual stipulation that an Essential Mix can contain at most one of the DJ's own productions.

this has to be the most interesting EM tracklist I've ever seen ...

what an absolute pile of dog shit. Pete Tong should issue a public apology, but if they didn't for Legers & Armins' last one, they won't for this. As chesco said, getting an essential mix used to be an honour.

and i thought that Radio1 would do something about artists playing just their own tracks after the laidback luke EM, but sadly they didn't do a damn thing

I didn't bother listening to this because I think Deadmau5 is shit. But was this supposed to be a "live" set by chance? Or did he just jump on some cdjs and mix all his own tracks together?

This is just like what he played when I saw him 9 months ago. I figured I could've opened itunes and played all his productions on random and got the exact same thing I heard out live.

Then when I commented on a TA thread about how "its evident to see why he is primarily a producer and not a dj" he replied by saying "I remember when I used to go to clubs just to have fun and hear some good tunes". Well then he should've been free with that attitude.

And lastly I just talked to a guy who brought in deadmau5 last summer to my local small edm festival where we only get one "name" dj for the whole weekend. He said not only was he just yanking his productions across the mixers, he wined about catching a flight in 8 hours and wouldn't stick around to hang out.

It's hard to have respect for this guy.

This is not the first time a mix was played Arist Only songs. Look at Infusions set... And I would be willing to bet there was sets more like this..

Wow what a terrible comparison. Infusion is more of a band and probably one of the best live dance acts around.

As if we needed anymore proof Deadmau5 is now total complete shit in every aspect.

As if it hadn't been clear already, it really is a shame when you see someone so blatantly cross over the "I genuinely believe EDM begins and ends with me" threshold.

The nice part about it, however, is more often than not it's a fickle business. Schadenfreude has a very nice, and fairly regular, home in the world of electronic music.

Yeah, when I was listening to the stream live, I thought the very same thing.

It's also the Holden mix of "the sky was pink" and it's hardly an edit. He just adds some eletro beat to it during the buildup. And it's just the Original mix of Two of Us, there's no edit on it. I've heard it a zillion times and it's nothing remotely different from the way he played it to the original.
