For those that use hats to beatmatch:

Do you still use kicks to cue a track and then focus on the hats after you've got it playing? Or do you do it differently?

I just try to use the first beat of a phrase every time. Most of the time there is a kick and a hi hat on the first beat.

for breakbeats i follow the highs, and for 4/4 beats i follow the rythem and bass, but it depends on the song your mixing out of too, the cue tone function on my mixer comes in handy for mixing out of spots that are hard to follow when matching things up

I've had my DJ setup for all of..what.. a week? So take my comments lightly. When you think about the kick it's a very fast frequency sweep, high to low. I find that cutting the lows (ecler nuo 2) gives just the attack on the kick to beatmatch very well. I DO find myself concentrating more on percussion recently.

depending on what music you are playing, or what genre you might be trying to mix with, or at what frequencies the low end comes in on. whats your system? can it handle phase cancellation? On another note, I mix with filters, cutting both high and low end, low end cuts are probably the most common that I've seen thought..
