Specifics

I assume you will all apoligise once I have satisfied that I am who i say I am. I just want to learn and contribute to the forum so please dont try to start me on a bad note ok. I am telling the truth.

I do not think i am a chart topping artist or in fact that i even know what i am doing yet. I think I got lucky once with an old electro project! and never got paid

hey man relax... don't feel unwelcomed, i still stand by my opinion of sending an e-mail requesting a statement... also check at which dates they are supposed to pay up, its usually every quarter or half a year, and maybe the song didn't raise that much money to pay you... i don't know its hard to tell...

Thanks vortex i was feeling very unwelcome I have had 2 very bad reactions to my posts and I really want to get involved with the forum.

People here can be a little harsh sometimes, but once you get to know some, there really cute boys

But anyway, did you register your song with BMI or something like that (don't know where you're from)? They should handle your royalty statements and you will probably be payed most by them rather than your label.

You're right. My post was unproductive and the cap to a shitty day. My bad. If you've topped ALL download sites, you have. None of my biz anyway.

The things you may be thinking about regarding the money are, first, how the sales on the remix impact you. I saw that the top seller for that label was indeed "Party Time" - but someone else's remix. Not sure how that affects you, but something to consider. Also, the agreement works both ways. If you have an agreement, it works as much in your favor as it does in theirs. If they claim there wasn't an agreement at all, then they aren't allowed to sell your production and performance material. So, at this point it'd be in their interest to have some agreement - and depending on the language in the email, it can be binding, but it depends on what it says, how it says it, etc. Although I'm sure you'd agree that wouldn't be the preferred route on future "agreements."

You need to understand that we get bogus posts here all the time. Posts meant to string us along, or just start a flame war. Basically designed to make us waste our time, while the pimply faced troll giggles at all the replies. Your post had all the earmarks of a trolling post. So our reaction is completely called for. Surely you can understand that. You shouldn't take it personally that you weren't believed. Next time, give more details (links, label names, ect), and you will be taken more seriously. If a label doesn't pay out, I'd sure like to know what one it is so I can avoid.

Welcome to the production forum.

PS: You say the track topped the charts of the label it was released on. That's no indication of how many copies were sold. Could of been 2 for all your know. When you say it "topped" all the download sites, do you mean for the particular label, or in general? Again, you could of sold 2 and still topped the charts for your particular label. You need to get a sales report, bottom line.

I have screenshots of the charts if you like im not lying. the syan remix was better then mine i think but, and i stress there was 2 days where my track was in top 10 on djdownload and above some big names in the scene. I know it was played on london radio rise one 98.3fm because i have the recording of the dj playing it. I know it was playlisted at some big club in oz because i found it online. Also the label have re-released it in april this year it stayed in top 100 for about a week came back then went again so it must ahve sold some. it was number 1 on beatsdigital for ages my mix as well.

Im glad you all accept the web sites etc now down to brass tacks.

So what next what shall I do?

p.s at one point 3 of the 4 remixes were in top 100 so i know it did ok

Was it YOUR mix that was on all the charts and radio, or the remixes? I'm asking, not to be an ass, but because as I mentioned before, the remixes of your tracks are not treated the same as your original. On the site you posted, it was a remix, not yours, that was topping the sales, and that leads me to believe that it may have been the remixes blowing the charts up. If that's the case, it doesn't necessarily entitle you to anything, or much - that depends on how the contract was written. If there was no contract, just a general agreement on email, it's left to interpretation, which is a whole different matter... one that likely requires more investment than you'd get back.

I'm sorry to hear about this though... it really is a shame that your track could have legitimately been exploited and you receive next to nothing. BS, in principle.

Posted by Sonic_c on Aug-02-2008 01:24:

Mainly the sayan mix but i say that my mix was constantly going from top 10 to low 100 and back and so on for a while.

sayans stayed top 10 and got to number one on thje big sites my mix as in the origianl made number one only on beatsdigital.com

and yes my mix on radio!

thanks for being patient!

this is the Djdownload top 100 electro chart from sept ish last year

What is the language of the agreement you have with them? It's really difficult for anyone to tell you whether you may be owed, and as a result the course of action, without knowing what you signed up for.

one sec im showing you some pics

Is someone complaining about not making money off of music? ha!

How do you think top artists feel who do nothing but make music all day all year and know millions of people are ripping their shit off limewire/bearshare/piratebay?

I understand why you're mad but it can always be much worse.

That's entirely different. That is the result of consumers ripping off an artist and avoiding buying (hence, sales). This is allegedly the case of a label ripping off an artist based on the actual sales. Apples and oranges.

thanks ray much appreciated!

Yeh, you have a point. Still hate what the music industry has come to these days.

& as far as the original post I only sold once exclusive rights to a DJ. Never a label, and for all I know that track can have a label now lol.
I really don't care though.

If I ever think my skills are label worthy on a consistent basis and its not just an accidental good track, then I'll make sure to cover all my ground. But for now, not really a concern.
