Actually, if you look carefully at the flier you'll see that it only said 12:00 for the boarding time, there was no departure time (which I thought was a bit sketchy but not terribly unusual). The ticket said 12 AM for some reason, haha. I'm not even sure if it specified anywhere how long the cruise was supposed to be - I don't think it did - although obviously there is an expectation that any boat cruise will be at least 4 hours, especially at $50 a head.

And even though the Canada Day cruise departed late, they were also playing while we waited and we docked late, so I do think we got our money's worth for that.

I think it was LIV Events promoting this one, so that's who you want to complain to.

P.S. I hear you about the captain, Evan, but promoters should realize by now that you don't start boarding at 12 PM for a boat that's docking at 4:30. And although it's entirely up to the captain's discretion, the promoters are still ultimately responsible. Sorta like how the manager of a restaurant or bar is ultimately responsible when the food or service is lousy... y'know? Maybe they can't always prevent an incident but they should be on the ball when one occurs, making sure to smooth things over with the customers with whatever reasonable means are available.

I was gnawing my teeth all afternoon yesterday thinking I was missing out big time but the reviews so far seems to say I didn't miss out much.

Well, I don't feel as bad now. (though sucks for you guys...)

I hate people who can't meet their timings

Posted by Silky Johnson on Aug-04-2008 14:03:

Big fucking mehhhhhhhhhh. What a pathetic showing. Seeing everyone was great though!

Posted by Intangible on Aug-04-2008 15:33:

The bad:

- lack of security. My bag was opened but not really looked through and I was not patted down. Girls with no purses we not searched at all. And from what my friends say, guys were hardly searched. If we do not feel violated in a small way, the security guards did not do a good enough job searching us.

- So Im in the washroom while we are still docked and a girl pops in, removes a HUGE bottle of G from her skirt... ugh... I did see the result of that on the cruise... but at least no one shit their pants

- I got beat up. lol. I scraped my leg on the stage, resulting in a huge nasty gash on my leg. And what hurt worse... some dude jabbed me with the lit end of his cigarrette. SERIOUSLY PEOPLE IF YOU ARE GOING TO SMOKE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DANCE FLOOR PLEASE HOLD YOUR CIGARRETTE PROPERLY SO NO ONE GETS HURT... Im pretty sure its going to leave a scar

- Desyn, desyn, desyn... Not only was he EXTREMELY late (which I can forgive as apparently he was 'caught up in the airport'... and well even when you're a superstar DJ you still cant control late planes) but when he did arrive he comes in carry two HUGE stuffed animals and a grin on his face. He should have at least looked apologetic or something... Then I feel like he wasnt even behind the decks for half the set. He took off with his 'gf?' for a while... and I paid to see SOS, not Omid 16 and Demi.

- And obviously.... TOO SHORT. But everyone else has done enough bitching about it for me. I will be finding the proper contact people, and I think we all deserve an apology.

Does anyone know their website?? I would like to see the photos they took. http://www.liv-events.ca/ is useless.

The Good:

- The fantastic predrinking/f1 watching the occured in the morning. Definately was the perfect way to start off the day.

- Lots of friends and lots of friendly faces. Loved seeing you all... you definately made the cruise worth the $50

- Matt's sombero and Sagar's 'waterwings'

- The weather was PERFECT. Except I did get some serious sunstroke.

- I really liked the boat... out of the three boats I have been on, this is definately my favourite.

- While we were waiting for Desyn I had a chance to speak with Omid. Really, really nice guy. I mentioned two tracks I wanted to hear.. and I heard them <3

- Their set was really good. Ok not GREAT. But still really really good. Had me dancing 95% of the time. Im looking for two track IDs... The track with the accordian (also heard in their WMC set), and the track that had the sax in it. Mikey will post videos of them tonight (Mikey pls post those videos lol)

Will post a few pics later

Weather was INCREDIBLE!! This long wkend's weather 110% makes up for the shittyness of the july 1 long wkend's weather!

(Sidenote: How the heck do you ppl get sunstroke... lol. i sunburn myself to more extremes than anyone i konw, and ive never in my life had sunstroke! )

<3 Golden random sign (which was in fact a ghetto sunguard (???) that sits on the dash/front windshield of your car to keep the sun/heat out)

Posted by LKD on Aug-04-2008 19:39:

so a few things we learned yesterday:

- the 3 amigos are bad with being on time....together
- li'ly gets way too hot and stuffy downstairs
- Demi admits hes a pussy
- I apparently lost a bet and i seem to be the only one that forgot about it.

Pics made it look like good times were had
So happy I gave my ticket away last minute, though. Oh well, next one!

Posted by The Highroller on Aug-04-2008 20:08:

For the short two hours and twenty minutes that the cruise went, it was a great time. As everyone else said though, it was way too short. I will reserve judgement until we find out why the cruise ended so early.

As far as Desyn coming late, I really don't understand why he didn't get a water taxi. It was so unneccessary making everyone wait that long.

So, LIV guys: What happened?

Posted by LKD on Aug-04-2008 22:45:

another thing I learned yesterday...Dog tags are a bit too popular now...before...other than myself I'd notice maybe one or 2..but yesterday i saw 20+ people with dog tags

Posted by musicsnob_NOT on Aug-04-2008 23:14:

As i said it was probably the worst cruise I have ever been on - music wise and the length. Still had a good time with the friends I was with.

Waiting for Desyln instead of getting him a water taxi was stupid and unacceptable (would he have pulled a no show if you didn't wait for him?). Better to let the 500 people enjoy the cruise rather than wait for one of the DJ's.

The boat had a Flow 93.5 party on it afterwards which is why we had to be back at the dock when we did (for the gear swap and set up). The promoters must have known this and thus holding the cruise was the wrong decision.

I think it was a good balance... generally speaking the presence of a search should be enough. Keep it random.

There needs to be a balance safety and personal privacy.

The searches are predominately to prevent weapons from being brought on board. Most women on the boat were not wearing very much therefore a physical pat down may not have been entirely necessary.

Miami and most New York don't even do bag checks. Let alone people checks.

While I do whole heartedly think that he should have been forced to take a water taxi...

I am going to have to disagree with you on Desyn's arrival. When he arrived on the top deck many people were cheering and clapping and he seemed apologetic and gracious. I can't speak for his time behind the decks as I was not close enough to tell.

On with my review...

I had a fabulous day. Friends are what really made the day what it was. My Yanks, the Irish and the boys from Dubai.

Fuad + Take Me Away = Golden.

I am curious to see why it was so short. I don't think it is fair to put blame on the captain or boat staff. They are paid for the service they provide. I do believe it does come down to the promotor and poor planning for this one. $50 a head should have gotten us a little more.

It was also pretty shitty that they did not have music on at the beginning. It may have been a good idea to have someone open...

I think the ladies and gentlemen responsible for the Rock the Boat parties have spoiled us lately. The quality between the 2 is night and day.

In spite of negatives mentioned above.. my 3.5 hours on the boat were kick ass and I had a great time.

more to come.

Yves Murasca - Saxophobic Satisfaction (Christian Hornbostel Harpo Dub Mix)

Haji & Emanuel - Take Me Away (SOS Edit?)

I really have not much more to say that everyone hasn't mentioned already.

Very disappointed that the boat party was cut short; However, when the party was on, the party was on. The beats played on that boat blended perfectly with the vibe and the weather.

I had a great time with friends.

Went to the Docks after where Demi and Omid played for a couple hours... They were bangin' out the tunes and I'm glad they came back to give people who were on the boat some more. Kudos to them both and thank you.

For the people who I didn't already tell - I had my e-ticket folded ink-side-in, and when I handed it to the ticket girl she waved me on without even opening it. I could have saved myself the $50 and handed her a blank piece of paper.

Posted by TheVrk on Aug-05-2008 06:44:

Terrible..

As big a Desyn and SOS fan I am i horribly disappointed to read these reviews.
Worst part is, Desyn HAS this reputation for being late, so this kinda thing not only isn't surprising, but suspicious even.

Sucks.

Desyn getting a water taxi on CARIBANA SUNDAY isn't as easy as you guys suggest. The water taxis won't give a fuck if he is a dj or not...did you see how many boats were on the water for Caribana?!?! You guys would be just as pissed if the boat left on time without Desyn and he didn't get on. Either way, the promoters were in a no win situation...

Bullshit buddy, the water taxi sat there empty the whole time we were on the boat. I could see the fucking thing.

And let me tell you, I would not have been pissed if we had gone without him - disappointed but not pissed like I am now.

Posted by jpistone on Aug-05-2008 12:51:

what should have happened

when the call was made that desyn was going to be late.

A) the water taxi should have been reserved exclusively at which time Desyn arrived he could have been taken to the Northern Spirit.

B) someone from the promotion company should have waited at the dock for Desyn to go with him on the taxi boat to the Northern Spirit

Sitting at the dock for 2 hrs listening to everyone's voice overpowering the music was extremely pain full and will not be forgotten. It only sickens me more to find out that it was known the boat would dock earlier because of another party after.

Doesn't porter fly to NY now? I think promoters should consider flying dj's for boat criuse parties on porter and having them stay at hotels next to the lake front to avoid these kinds of incidents.
